The only Renault Efluences I've seen have been black ones in Paris, used as Government cars- bit of a come down from a C6 or 607.

Stan Laurel was Clint Eastwood's dad.

Bob Holness played saxophone on "Baker Street".

An SD1 is longer on one side than the other because of the fuel tank.

The condem goverment rewards hard working families.

I thought it was the Rover 800 that was about 3/4" longer on one side?

That's about right for the build quality. they forgot to fit working suspension so it wouldn't surprise me if they cocked up the shell dimensions.

Any late MG Rover 1.4 has a BMW engine

beetle engines are only held in with 4 bolts and can be taken out in 10mins!

That's accurate. Whilst there are also things like a few wires and the throttle cable, the engine itself is held in with only four 17mm bolts - they hold it to the gearbox, the gearbox is supported by the mounts. There are no engine mounts.

My first one ever took 20 minutes so I reckon someone less stupid could do it in half that.

The Rover 75 /MG ZT "is exactly the same as a BMW 5 series underneath M8"

And oh how i wish this one was true.....

I measured one and was upset to find that this pub fact was untrue

My SD1 certainly is after my expert* welding and fabrication.

I did an engine swap on a Beetle many years ago. It didn't take long to do the actual swap but I'd forgotten to connect the throttle cable when fitting the engine. I think it took about half an hour to fit the engine, an hour swearing at the throttle cable, another hour to remove the engine again, fit the bloody cable and refit. Then about an hour to get all the heat shields and ducting back in place.

I still dislike Beetles.

Shamelessly stolen from the Rover 800 "Sarah" Facebook thread of recent times;

"The Rover 800 with the BMW 2.7 engine has Honda suspension, taken from the Nissan skyline. The BMW 2.5 engine is not a K Series, but have the same suspension as fitted to the Toyota corolla. The 800 with the BMW 2 series suspension has the 2.0 K series and the one with a T... stands for Turbocharged."

One of Father Sandie's friends had a borked Rover 45. There had obviously been some large discussion between him and his mates about this car and he came round here and asked me 'what engine does an 03 Rover have?'. 'A Rover one' came my somewhat terse reply.

Apparently his other mate (an ex-mechanic, no less!) was regaling them of how the K-Series was terrible because it was a Honda engine made by BMW in Germany...

What's this Sarah thread?

And why would a Skyline have Nissan suspension?

Mercedes pioneered the diesel passenger car.

I thought that they did produce the first production diesel passenger car.  The Citroen Rosalie was older but wasn't put into volume production.  It depends on your definition of "pioneered".

Manual gearboxes provide better OMGMPG than automatics.

surely this is true unless it's a DSG or something

You cannot do ANYTHING to a modern car. The bonnet is sealed, inside there's just a drawing of an engine and you'll get into a lot of trouble if you go in there without it being at the main dealer.

I have a Scirocco with the breathless 75bhp 1.6 and the super high 4+E box

Ive had it up to about 90 mph.

Local mechanic has similar engine/box in his Golf 2

But his will apparently do 130+

All he has done is to fit the cam from a GTi

Amazing, since a GTi will only do about 110 with all that rubbish fuel injection crap.

A young kiddy at one of my deliveries has a 1.1 pug 106 and claims he's strapped a turbocharger to it and it now does 130mph.

does anyone else remember the "chinny reckon?" beard stroking action used to express disbelief when being fed bullshit?post-5001-0-20577500-1385213901_thumb.jpg

When I was sat in the pub I was staying in at the NEC last week, a guy on a nearby table was telling his 'friends' that last year he drove from Santander (in Spain y'know as opposed to the bank) to Malaga without dropping below 130mph apart from when he needed to fill up.

In a 1.8 petrol Vectra.

His 'friends' all had that familiar look of bored disbelief / pity that they probably keep in reserve for his tall tales.
