Man Down

Today's my Birthday, 35 years young and fit as butchers (slightly overweight fag smoking dog with borderline alcohol dependency issues). I had the day booked off work as loads of soon to loose leave and toil has amounted once again so was fortunate enough to be shower with prezzies whilst still in bed. My good lady common law wife of the last 19 years gifted me a fantastic espresso machine which was without a doubt the star of the show and motivated me to get my sorry arse out of bed and get that bad boy working.

The morning started good as you can tell and after a coffee or two with baby chinos for the kids I decided to hit get out and about as the weather was cold though clear.

Moto is always the first choice and more so since I filled that badboy with £13.67 of 95 ron yesterday at my firms expense (card declined at the till though fuel card and grovelling email to admin shone through) Fueled also with champion coffee and bacon sandwich stop on route I headed for the community garden project we've been helping out with at work to shovel some shit I'd failed to get sorted with the group we had in on Tuesday.

2 hours manual labor was smashed out just in time to head off from the mean streets of Thamesmead to London Bridge to hit up Monmouth coffee for some of their fine beans and maybe have a cheeky chorizo burger and pint in the Porter before getting back south east for the Mrs knocking off work on her half day.

The long and short is that I never made it.

20 year old Honda's look to be stronger than modern Peugeot's and Vauxhalls offer little resistance too. Good motorcycle gear is well worth the investment and being happy and relaxed helps save brokenness on impact.

I glad as fuck to be standing (can't lay or sit till more drunk) in my kitchen typing this and although I know I will ache more tomorrow just feel grateful that for me there will be one.

Thanks to all the people who helped me today, fire, ambulance, hospital staff and plod (not ACAB, just a lot of them) and maximum props to my mate Matt who left work (pinching the van) to save my bike from the pound and generally save my broken self, he got there before the ambulance despite being at least 5 miles further away than the Hospital and having no blues and twos to get through the shitty London traffic.

Look out for bikers at junctions, I know matey in the Pug will next time.

Glad that you survived relatively unscathed!

Pawnote: I'm 36 today ;)

Happy birthday... I guess.  I'm always on the lookout for bikers, this is exactly why, they're so easy to miss in traffic but I'm happy to hear you're okay and survived the incident.

Cheers pal, good oneupmanship on the 36 and many happy returns.

Is it you trying to buy or sell the blue rubber band? I've just posted on the thread as may be able to assist with A frame, not sure I'll be able to pilot my van over the next few days but happy to lend/come along for the ride if I'm too much of a raspberry to drive.

Thanks Vulg, missed your post but all good here. Someone was smiling on me today, it may have been my Nan who left me the cash for a decent lid when she passed away. It's scrap now though did it's job.

Happy birthday too... Happy you're here to type this as well!

I too try to look out for bikes and other more vulnerable road occupants as the thought of getting it wrong for someone just doesn't bear thinking about.

Stay safe folks.

Cheers :)

I'd quite like to buy the DAF, but I'm not sure that I'll be in a position to attempt to collect it until at least next weekend, as I'm working seven consecutive 12-hour shifts from tonight

Shit, glad you're (sort of) OK. Hope it doesn't hurt too much in the morning.

Shit happens, it was busy and he no doubt had mistaken me for a pedestrian/phone box/ufo and only saw the big red bus behind me not a tatty black Honda with yellow headlight blazing. In all honestly I think he would of spotted me in the dark as there is less to focus on.

Despite this being the second 'sorry pal didn't see you incident' I'm neither bitter nor deterred. This one should be much more clear cut when it comes to insurance as last time I was filtering and it went 50/50.

Cheers :)

I'm not sure I'm in the position to do it either right now though the offer's there. Paypal and PM's could be all you need to net it mind ; )

Yep, what Twiggy said.

It often takes a bit of bad luck to make you realise how lucky you are. I bet this has made you think about life pretty seriously today Will.

Best wishes to you, you old sod.

Been there, done that. Glad you're ok.

Well played for cheating the reaper fella.

And happy birthday.

Glad youll see the next one!

Happy birthday, I'm glad to see your still with us, I've known a few bikers who weren't as lucky as you were in that situation.

Happy Brirthday! I'm glad your okay.

Those motorbikes are dangerous...as are cars, tractors and anything that whirs away.

Ouch. Its always worth investing in a good helmet. I spent a few hundred pounds on mine as thought along the line of you can pretty much repair your arm in the event of a break but you manage to break your head and you are mullered.

Happy birthday anyhow. These days I look upon birthdays as a real celebration that I have survived another year. This year you certainly need to do the same.

You just couldn't have a birthday party like everyone else could you?

Glad you're alright!

Well that was definitely One Happy Return, wasn't it?  Many more, WRW.  And as much as you can, enjoy what's left of this one.

Happy Birthday mayte, sorry to learn of your accident but its good to know you are still Ok.

Still... you did get a fantastic espresso machine :-D

Glad to hear you're OK after the spill. How's the bike?

Posted

Bloody hell! that's grim but like John...

I'm more interested in how you're getting on with your espresso machine.

I have that particular "T shirt" myself. Excellent news that you don't seem to be badly hurt.

Happy Birthday! You'll not forget this one!

Happy Birthday and glad to hear you are ok.

Sounds like a pretty good day up to that point too!

Happy birthday, until said point in time.

I remember when I was 8, I slipped off my PolyProx skateboard and it shot out in front of a moped. It hit the skateboard, did a 2 foot yump and then sclaffed along on its side.

The lady rider was fine, with only a ripped jacket and a few scratches but I thought my world had just ended. Looking back, she was a bit of a cunt to a very distraught 8 year old about it but it showed me how vulnerable motorcyclists are and to be careful of them.

Hope you get mended soon sir.

I hope the bruises fade quickly, a trip down the road is never a pleasant thing to happen.

I'm always on the lookout for bikers.

It's all that black leather really, isn't it?

Sorry to hear about that  -  you are taking it remarkably philosophically...  Happy birthday too.  Have a medicinal one from me.  8)

Firstly apologies for all the grammar, spelling mistakes and any general babble in my postings on here. It may have been noticed that all these things come naturally to me though I do under normal circumstances try to correct my posts.

Thanks to all, the comments have all really cheered me up. Unsurprisingly I hurt like fuck yesterday after the elation of surviving Thursday's spill had worn off. Today I realized that the little pink pills from the hospital weren't up to much unless mixed with copious quantities of scotch and that the long term outlook of doing so would be fairly dire (the pills gave me a dodgy belly and I've run out of scotch).

The Mrs, (who along with the kids) has been great despite the shit I've put them through ran me down the quacks who dished out a double win of 2 weeks on the sick and high grade class A Painkillers Yo. The rest of the family went shopping whilst I was in the waiting room and I was seen quick so was even able to hobble the 30 yards to the pub and get in a quick pint. The walk to the pub did involve a sit on a wet wall half way though bar stools are just the right height for the mobility unabled 8)

The coffee machine is pure win and makes me happy every time I use it. It's a proper posh coffee shop job just without the £400+ price tag.

It's like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/330991264744?lpid=83&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=83&ff19=0 though came new from the Coop for about the same price on some deal. Get one if you can, it's much better than my old stove top jobbie which broke last week.

I've got my bike back here and will add some pics soon. Thankfully the cager that done me in has fully admitted fault and his insurance seem to be playing the game at this point. I need to take pics of kit and find like for like prices. They have offered what I paid for my bike which I should be able to keep for a 7% fee, it sounds reasonable but I need to take pics so they can properly assess a category for it.

All in both me and the bike bounced well and fingers crossed will both be fighting fit by boxing day as I'm due to be racing it then at the Witley boxing day enduro. This may be optimistic on my part though aim high and all that, I'll be putting an entry in as soon as the regs are out and the first She'll know of it is when it appears on her paypal.
