I had the misfortune to be stuck in traffic behind one of these for what seemed like hours last friday.

and that strange bulge in the tailgate started to look reminicent of something, but what?

It took a while, but I think it is this:

Spotted any other shite reminicent styling on moderns?

Fiat 500 / Bini / S-type / Beetle excluded obviously 8)

I'm a big fan of the original Mk1 CR-V but that one and even more so the latest incarnations are just plain hideous.  I preferred 80s/90s Hondas - neat, simple styling inside and out and good solid engineering.  They seem to be going in the opposite direction lately.

Often thought the depressingly bland Mk1 Almera reminded me of something...

The current Volvo V70 has a lot of Volvo 245 influences if you look closely :)

Actually this, especially from behind...

...reminds me of this, which I'm sure was deliberate!

New Volvo V40 has the kink in the waistline like the P1800S and a tailgate like the P1800ES..

What about the original Honda CRV 3 door? Look at the square back end and then at a Volvo 850 estate's rump....

Posted

You're thinking HRV, there was no three door CRV.

As Mr Partridge rightly pointed out on another thread, it has been Mr Loewys birthday.    Here are two he had a hand in for the Loewky-Alike thread....They are fairly close together in the Observers Book of Automobiles too, thanks to alphabetic kinship!

I might be stretching "familiar" a bit here...

Tatra 613, the first incarnation

VW 412, it's the headlights and indicators that does it, but the way the creases to the flat surfaces are done is very familiar too.

But from the back, a later 613

I knew there was something familiar about the British Leyland ECV3 concept car someone posted a picture of a while back, Charlie2555's Greek spotted thread solved the riddle.

I spent about 10 minutes driving behind this the other day:

Thinking it was one of these:

I was quite taken aback when I finally realised what it was.

You know where normal blokes look at one of those inkblot pictures and usually see a gaping flange?  This is the autoshite version where you look at something and see an ADO16

Sitting in an early Ka really reminded me of my Anglia. I don't know whether it was deliberate, but there were a lot of similarities.

The engine, for one...

Every single new MPV thingys look the same. Doesn't matter who makes them it's always big gaping mouth and thin headlights that stretch the length of Yorkshire with a kick up the rear wheel arch.
