Audi quattro not gene hunt.

I know German cars get a bit of a slating sometimes on here but i do like them.

here's a couple off my oldies,

This was my first 80 sport A120 OWW back in 1990 paid a small fortune for it, while all my friends where paying over £100 per month on insurance this sport was costing me just £32, in my opinion it was a whole lot better than the xr3 it was certainly faster.

of course being 18 I wanted the newer one   on the beliefs it would be faster so this was my second and was cheep as chips because it had 186k miles on it, never stopped it going though as it was well loosened off

This car was thrashed mercilessly for two whole years then sold to a friend who kept it for a while and then I bought it back again,   god knows how many miles it had done when i finally said goodbye to it.

All the time I wanted a blue Quattro and couldn't find one for sale,  I stuck a note under wiper of the only local one i knew but heard nothing, I even asked the owner while out and about if he would sell me his, a firm no was his reply both times I asked him

many years past and over another 100 odd cars and I get a call from a friend who had just had work done on his car,

do you fancy another Audi he says, don't ask stupid questions says I, to cut a long story short I agreed to buy it from his description and my friend squared the chap up for it and A framed it to mine.

well can you imagine my shock to see the very same car I lusted over all those years ago.

The time it disappeared and the last time it was started.

Drivers door has strip missing and has rust along door bottom,  good news it came with a rust free door just needs painted.

And the best bit the mileage

first job tyres as they go flat the minute you turn your back.

and the sweet sounding 5 pot (well if it goes that is)

well that was 3 years ago now and i couldn't get it to run so it got laid up again until now.

this time i am determined to get it on the road.

hats lovely, the colour is great. There's same colour one down the road from me, complete with shredded rear seats

WOW, I've had a few of these, but never a quattro- always wanted an 80 sport in that colour with the decal kit. The noise from a straight 5 is the next best thing to a V8

Keep us posted on updates, topic followed :)

A lovely car from a time when Audis were exclusive and interesting and driven by nice people :)

I really like those Audi 90's. When I lived in the borders a guy I worked with had a Silver 90 Quattro. It was rough as anything but went like stink and sounded great.

No sane person would slate a nice B2 - they come from an era when Audi really made quality cars !

The 90Q looks lovely, I can almost hear the five-cylinder burble !

I hope there's more to come ?

Fabulous motor - I am very envious

Yup, these old Audis are well lush. That was the era that started the OMGGERMANCARZIZSOOORELIABLE mantra, and back then it was true.
I really wanted an 80CD back in the day.

Lovely motor I'm really jealous their can't be many knocking about in that colour with that mileage.

And as engines go you can't beat the Audi 5 pot.

I Hope you get the old girl back on the road soon without too many problems.

My mates dad had a 80 sport back in 84,85.He was always seen as a little different as he was a diver on the rigs.back then

Other mates dads had Cortina's and Sierras.Mine had a Maestro

Damn you, you made me go up the attic. Found some old photo's of my Audi period...before the digital age. had to take photo's of photo's...

Here's the first of many 80 Sport's I owned- I bought it from Inverness, accident damaged. The front edge of the bootlid was at the top of the rear screen. Bought another and chopped it, and it turned out nice. Here it is in the sunlight for the first time.

My first 90, bought from a dealer next to the truckers cafe on the prom in Kirkcaldy. I worked in Kwik Fit at the time and went along for a bacon roll, and came back with this. Had just been paid. Wife wasn't too pleased...

Had real problems with the 90's headlights, the reflectors would go really dull, and new ones were a fortune, and used ones were impossible to find, so I turned it into a 4000 replica, USA spec, complete with orange markers.

Ignore the h8trs, pre "A" series Audi's are for winners.

You are obviously a man of exquisite taste, the 90 looks fab in oceanic blue.

I've never owned a B2, an 80 sport or a 90q are definitely on the list though.

Ive had two of these , first was an Oceanic blue sport C97 DYR with over 200k on it , i sold this on and bought a red 80 Quattro which was an ex road rally car , someone had fitted a KK series 2214cc 5 pot in it ( although the V5 said 2226cc ) , full cage , no rear seats , no carpet etc etc .

We hooned about in it for 4 years before selling it on.

My one BIG regret

C969 FYC Where are you now

It's still out there according to the DVLA at least. SORNed until next March.

I always wanted an 80 Sport back in the day but I always seemed to end up with something shit instead. The engine's right out there at the front eh?

I'd defo have one an 80 or 90 if it came up now.

I still say there's little to beat a five-pot warble as the revs climb above 3000rpm.

Several house moves ago, I owned this.

272_25370023199_1417_n.jpg

Only the two-litre, and far from lovely condition. Enormous though, and quite capable of topping 30mpg as long as I didn't indulge in too much warbling. (and yes, yet another two-number car I've owned!)

Thanks guys for all the comments I was not sure if the car would be acceptable so I shall keep the thread updated.

Funny you should say that but a friend of mine who used to work at quick fit bought the top sport A120 OWW and took it back to Kirkcaldy when he moved back home,     what a coincidence.    it shows up on the doovla as unlicensed since 2000 so looks like its gone to the autobahn in the sky

Beautiful. I had an '84 80 Quattro 12 years ago. The five sounds fantastic. I sold it for an '85 528i which also sounded fantastic, but scared me a hell of a lot more to drive quickly.

This gets a fums up from me too - as has been said, the 5 pot 10v sounds lush & is unburstable  8)

Mine was a bit newer - 1991 - and had the 20v engine.

Still sounded all kinds of awesome though.

Purchased for £250 as a Cat C, due to that MASSIVE dent you can see on the bumper/bootlid.

little update and its like Christmas many spondoolys later and this little lot arrived from GSF first of many as this car will definitely cost way more than its worth to recommission  but then don't they all.

so I decided to do the cambelt first since its been on there 15 years plus,  as the engine is right out front space is shall we say challenging,

post-3747-0-61210900-1381356754_thumb.jpg

ze Germans have the answer though as once I removed the radiator deflector panels, front grill, bottom vents then theres space a plenty if you have small hands that is.

post-3747-0-65428200-1381356829_thumb.jpg

while I had the cambelt covers off I though it would be a good idea to give them a bit of a bling up don't know why though since it doesn't run and even if it never goes at least it will look good.

post-3747-0-07860200-1381357094_thumb.jpg

while the gallons of smootherite paint was drying I popped in air filter dropped the ancient oil and wrestled with the oil filter, this was much fun as first it broke my filter wrench so I had to resort to the old screw driver through the side trick,  three bloody times I had to do that as the damn thing was as tight as a drum,

never managed to do so much damage to an oil filter before.

post-3747-0-12794600-1381358136_thumb.jpg

so here we go new cambelt water pump and guide pulley awaiting blinged up covers,

so that was a five box job not a bad nights work if I do say so myself.

future updates will be from time to time as I have decided this will take a while or should I say the wife has as we are of on our jollies in a few days.

When I said occasional updates I hadn't planned on three years between them 😚

Since the petrol tank was gummed up inside and I decided to set it alight for shits and giggles which pretty much fooked it I then got seek and left it,

The tanks are pretty hard to come by since they are not as tall to accommodate the rear diff but I have now found another tank, I cleaned it out with thinner's and then washed it out with tfr then filled it with waste oil thinned with diesel and rinsed it through so hopefully no residue left that could upset the fuel system,

I fitted the tank and thought it would be easier to fit the new pump and pipes from underneath,

I had to stick on some wheels that would hold air so I could move it over a bit,

post-3747-0-64278700-1488138927_thumb.jpg

After I moved her away from the hedge out came the tilter and with a bit of help we did this.

After scraping any loose bits of factory underseal which is very thick and rubbery off to reveal a few surface rust patches I got the vactan out and painted them,

post-3747-0-00032700-1488139308_thumb.jpg

It goes the same purple colour as the other products I've used in the past so here's hoping it's actually better,

After a bit of time I'm halfway there.

post-3747-0-24973200-1488139599_thumb.jpg

Can you buy the same thick rubbery underseal that the factory applied ?

I'm actually now thinking it may be better to remove the whole lot with heat and much scraping then just paint it all.

Next update scheduled for 2020.

Fab! I'm making the same rate of progress with my XR2.

That tilter looks ace, but how do you get it back down without squishing yourself? Very carefully I assume!

If I hadn't of had a stroke of luck in finding a bloody tank it still wouldn't have been touched, damn my caveman fire escapades.

I stuck it up with the help of the engine crane so could use it to lower back down, I fear that would be the sensible thing to do so may avoid as I now have life insurance.

This vactan dries funny it's black white and rusty brown with a bit of purple thrown in for good measure, I shall stick another coat on and see how it looks.
