"Moar boost" is used in the quest for the holy grail of "All Teh Boost" - this is an unobtainable condition by dint of the fact you can ALWAYS add Moar boost.

Some triple turbo's Cummins have got close...

Ah yes, Teh Holey Grale. The Phisolopher's Tone. That perfect moment when one's forced induction collects up every single atom of hydrocarbon, and every single oxygen atom and fuses them into one supermassive event?

It has been contended by Professor Trevor Carbrain of Cucumbernauld University that this event would lead to the entirety of existence being sucked through a manky K+N into a wormhole, and being spat out the other end to begin again. It may well begin with a creation myth involving excess throttle while changing lanes on the M8 near Whitburn at approx 1900hrs on a wet Wednesday...

SE

= Special Equipment, typically a very high level of features/toys added to a BASE car to entice buyers to pay a premium.

= Selective Entry, when applied to BMW E46 door locking mechanisms and similar cars of dubious build quality.

Does the SE stand for Selective Entry?

Just notice BASE is not in the Lexicon.  Indulge me?

BASE

= A legendary Ford Sierra that is worthy of its own film.

= A Vehicle of basic specification, having THE trim level fitted by the factory in the lowest specification possible from the list of options.  In that there should be nothing from that list applied to the car in question.  Possible examples:  Cavalier L, Alfasud N, Escort Popular (or not even worthy of a letter or term if available from the factory in that form).  The term appears to be more common in US parlance than UK, but gaining ground, yet describes what Autoshite is all about*

I feel that BASE should only apply to entry level models that are so rare as to be almost mythical. The Sierra is a good example.

The only other car I can think of that could be worthy of the term might might be the BMW E20 315 on carbs.

Otherwise 'Base' should apply.

Flounce isn't in there either. So, for the sake of completeness...

Flounce (v.): to leave the forum, permanently or temporarily, while drawing maximum attention to the fact. See also Flounce forum.

Flounce forum (n.): Forum started up by flouncers in direct competition with Autoshite but often with the content restricted to old cars only. Flounce forums rarely attract more than couple of dozen members (many probably only to see what is said in there) and rarely last more than a month or two.

Cav L isn't base. With sufficient arcane knowledge (which is an AS staple), one could come up with the desperately miserable MOD special Cavs, which had literally some seats, a speedo and...yeah, that was about it. One of those would ace a Cav L in a shite-off, such is the perverse nature of this place.

I think a 2 door Mark 2 Cav, available for a few months in 1300 base spec only, should qualify as BASE.

Disability specials, those. Forgot about them. That would be a proper rare find, cos they were popular for Ascona SR replicas. Therefore the shells went the same way as the equivalent 3dr Sierra base Motability specials all turned into Cossies.

From that, I'm going to suggest...

MOTABILITY SPEC: a low mileage car in apparently good condition with service history, that reeks of wee and will repeatedly break when driven properly, because it's never been over 30mph thus far in its' life.

I still get a shiver when I think of a Renault 5 of that category I'd to deal with years ago. It was absolutely fucking foul, with a sort of piss stain tide mark on the driver's seat base. Utterly rank at under 20yds. Superb over 21yds. Straight to the back of the lot...

Never knew there was a normal 2 door mk2 that wasn't a convertible. Are they all gone now?

Posted

They were very rare at the time. A bit like 2 door Cortinas and even Mk1 Cavalier 2 doors.

Generally only available in lowly spec. and seen as a poverty model.

Why did they bother?

Posted

Because 2-door cars were popular in Europe.  Why they bothered here is a very good question...

Europe. They got facelift 3-door mingebag Sierras too.

Brazil got a Mk2 Cavalier 3 door coupe, the bastards.33a57a057145242e9d394f516b4a6d7b.jpg055094869adeedc87c5cc870dcc6fb83.jpg489b802f4b1c64115e24019c0735f1db.jpg

Ford Europe made the mk2 3 door in a range of trim and engine levels including xr4i and xr4x4

All the convertibles were built in Belgium not Luton, and converted from 2-door Ascona bodies

I'd love to de-barry that 2 door cav back into a buttery biscuit base 1.3, shame they didn't fit the flappy mirrors on em like they did on the Nova Swing

You be right.  Base was the 1300S.  According to Motor :

Really the engine was the 1300S (to distinguish it from the old 1300 still being offered in the Chevette at the time) - the cars weren't badged as such.

Sadly we never got 2 door Mark 2 Granadas in the UK.

BTM761X is currently SORN. Still registered as a 1300!

One of those is in Somerset.

A Chevrolet Monza SR, brought in from Venezuela.  Was on eBay earlier this year, in a state so didn't sell at almost £2k.

We believe it was a personal car ambassador to Venezuela in Portugal, ending up in a scrap yard across the border in Spain.

s-l1600.jpg img_0327.jpg   I think the fire is out now though.

The man on RR who has this shonky Monza also mentioned:

we did get the 2dr saloon in the UK for about the first 12 months of production - so very early ones and they were uber base spec. There are two known examples left now. It was a far more common model in Europe and there are about another 3 LHD 2dr saloons over here.

Yes, although moto-scat is a flounce forum (q.v.). Flouncers could flounce off to moto-scat, though.

Perhaps to add?

SpastoMaxi

Austin Maxi spotted for sale on eBay in 2012, sporting comically oversized 'badging' on tailgate and fair amount of overspray on the tyres and elsewhere.  Whereabouts unknown, however its identity (DXG 25K) appears* to live on, attached to a later-example Maxi also seen on eBay (December 2017)

CoupeHatch

Morris Marina Coupe (PJV 382M) fitted with a Capri / Metro tailgate and lights effort that appears to work well.  Last seen alive on eBay (Jan 2018)
