arai quantic

fiddliest visor release ever

arai debut and most the last 10 years  - visor up full levers poke out of side pods push levers pull visor up and off

quantic visor up and little levers - push in and side pods pop off

push lever further in and they push visor nobble into bigger hole you then pull visor from

putting it back together is not the 2 seconds the arai guy in the video makes it look

might have been half an hour

fuck sake

what was wrong with previous attachment ffs

Scootering News:

Moto GB lost the franchise to import and sell Royal Alloy, Scomadi knock offs - as such they seem to be having a fire sale on parts (some are interchangable with the Scomadi bikes) but Ive also noticed that new pre reg bikes are now appearing on ebay and Autotrader from MotoGB dealers at substantially discounted prices sporting "shop soiling".
Given that the new range launches in a couple of weeks with a new line of dealers I wonder how much more the prices of the older RA bikes will tumble (if you are not right fussed about having the latest LC version of the bike)

2024 Royal Alloy GT 125 GT125 125cc for sale for £2,490 in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire

Also Scomadi are making noises about a return to the UK market

Ironic UK comeback for Scomadi? | NEWS | SLUK

If Scomadi said it was raining, you'd have to go outside to check.

They had all these great tales of a 300 (which did come true very briefly with a Vespa engine), plus a 250 manual and a 400 or 500, or something.

Those new old stock R.A 125s are surely going to fuck the second hand market up a bit, £2,495 is a great price for a new one.

Got my tank back from Cupar Bike Paints yesterday. Very happy with it. Reeeeally shiny.Screenshot_20250314_170038_Gallery.jpg.ef99f6ad597f837b380d34448542135b.jpgScreenshot_20250314_170047_Gallery.jpg.7a7b1cd50c3a2e84cfb00786b6488b63.jpg

Took the CT125 (the original!) on its first outing today. Did an Australian green lane. Interesting experience.

Made a fool of myself putting it on its stand. Looked away for one second and it fell on my shin. Smashed the indicator in the process. Arms from now on.

Two groups of friends have visited here in February, so took them to ride around Andalucia.

Some great roads, but those just north of Almeria are just superb, such as the Alto de Velefique. Perfectly surfaced, devoid of other traffic, and sunshine. Only a bit of snow at 1900 metres, and then just under the trees.

Highly recommended.

Did you try the road from Bacares to Gergal? I know you've driven some of those that run parallel to the Velefique on the eastern side.

Time to rack up the miles. Only had working indicators on any of my dirt going machines for fleeting moments.

Yeah, hope to get back out soon. Currently investigating an oil leak. I thought it was just a few drips that could be kept on top of by topping up. But looking in the filler neck I can't see any in the bottom of the engine....

Yep keeping that in good oil is key. Cheapo metal water bottle full of engine juice comes with me in every adventure on my single. Hopes its an easy fix.

Australian bike being Australian. Better grip than most tyres.

During the recent False Spring I had a couple of scoots out on the Zero. It never fails to satisfy. Over the winter I had heretical thoughts about chopping it in for a V100 Mandello or possibly one of the new Nortons. But 30 seconds into the ride and all thoughts of trading it in made me feel a bit dirty.

I've added a set of 'comfort' footpegs, basically they're about an inch lower than the standard ones and the very slightly less cramped riding position is actually a great improvement. It took all of 10 minutes to swap them over (including a lowered foot brake lever) and I'm still surprised at the quality of the thing, considering it was made in the US.

Someone on here should 100% get one of the new Nortons so we can see what they're like to live with.

I'm willing to give one a go in the name of science, if you pay for it.

Mate of mine ordered one but then cancelled it after he was told how long he would have to wait for it

Right I think I've found it. Theres oil in the stator housing, which I assume is somewhere that should get oil in it? How involved is the repair likely to be? Engine out and split the casing? Or remove the flywheel(?) and replace a seal?

IMG_20250317_152545040.jpg

Hmm the more I think about it maybe there should be oil in there? The cover has a gasket/o ring after all...

The neutral switch wire seemed to be trapped by the cover when I took it apart. Maybe it's just that?

It should not have oil in there, the 0-ring on the cover is to stop you getting water in the electrics.

Sense says that if you remove the flywheel there should be a crank seal in there that will want replacing (i thnk, not familiar with this engine, but its most likely)

There's a bit of an LC350 look about it from that angle. The colour scheme certainly helps with that impresion.

Is that the case on all bikes or are there some anomalies?

This video shows an XL engine being stripped, the magnet comes off between 20:45 and 22:45. There doesn't seem to be any oil seal on the crank, just an open bearing.

Would it not have a bit sloshing about to feed the lower timing chain gear? The crank bearing could be fed from the other side and sealed though would make sense to me that the chain was serviceable from the outside without splitting the lump.

Am just making this up mind. Ive worked on similar engines though honestly can't remember (much, about anything, ever).
