tom13 Posted March 4, 2025 Posted March 4, 2025 Did some green lanes the weekend with a mate from work who has a newer Africa Twin. He doesn't have too much experience but did well, a smaller bike would have helped. His Twin is a DCT one and I had a go on it. A very capable bike but you have to have some experience. You could get it stuck very easily if you were careful. DCT was actually very enjoyable. I wouldn't choose it over a manual but again I wouldn't turn my nose up at riding one either. twosmoke300 Posted March 9, 2025 Posted March 9, 2025 Well it appears I now have two burgman 400s ! Yay me I bought the semi broken one from @vaughant a month or two ago now . Hadn’t had much time to do much to investigate the poor running after half an hours riding on it . I did check the valve clearances and clean the carb etc . Then another one popped up locally for £250. Now , silly me thought it being a 51 plate and the original one being a W they would be the same yeh ? Are they fook. The one from vaughan is a 2000 model and the second one a 2002. The 02 was a non runner and in a million pieces . So my plan of swapping parts to fix it was out as the Cdi and connector was different with some wiring changes too . So I used the 2000 to get some wave forms and data from ignition pick ups and coil outputs etc to confirm the blue one had a knackered CDi . Which is pretty much unobtainable used at sensible money . Then someone locally was breaking one so I messaged and popped down . Got a Cdi ( the wrong one ) section of loom and an HT cap ( more on that shortly )for £15. So some bodging occurred but success ! It runs I will solder and heatshrink at some point but the bullets were just a test rig really . Some of the wiring is different and the colours and descriptions in both years wiring diagrams weren’t 100% accurate so some careful metering reqd. Yesterday was spent putting back together a maxi scoot someone else took apart and put all the fasteners in a bucket . Jeez what an ordeal but it’s back together and barring a slightly lacking in damping rear shock it seems ok . MOT next week. Onto the original 2000 one . Well I was a bit naughty and popped the no plate from my ( now very broken ) missis Innova on it so I could actually road test it and find out what’s up with it . Well long story short it was a fucked HT cap . It also had about 4 litres of petrol / oil mix in the sump ! So that was drained and refilled with 10/40 and will monitor the level . So two up n running maxi pads .One of them is doing our green laning shitbox challenge in June but I’ve not chosen my victim . The other will be used for a month or so til the weather is good enough to dig my cb500x out of it slumber . So the innova ? The missis has had this for 18 months or so and has been put to great use . The previous owner used it for long distance road trials and modified it a bit with trials tyres and a decent Bashplate . We have been going out on midweek TRF rides ( I’m on my KE) and the other half has been keeping up with much better bikes on the lanes . But this came at a cost this week. While riding it nipped up . Thought this was strange as it had a fresh top end a while back and was as sweet as. Well it turns out they don’t like having their crankcases having lumps torn out of them and leaking all their oil out . Luckily a friend of mine has a set of cases and I managed to find a new genuine crank for £80 plus post . Total cost of a full rebuild will be about £300 so not bad really . But I’m making her pay for it this time . But we are going to look at a Beta Alp 200 at 10.30 today 😂 No pressure but the Innova is booked in for an event in wales in about 4 weeks time so I need to get it running , run in and snagged before then . scdan4, Stinkwheel, Cavcraft and 8 others 11

Stinkwheel Posted March 11, 2025 Posted March 11, 2025 How seized can rear shock linkages be you ask? very. Just a quick job I thought, then EVERYTHING was seized. new bearings all round. wouldn’t have shifted the old ones without a press, luckily I have one. new bearings in And then the slightly newer (and slightly longer, F650GS model) shock goes in, Now back together with it then, but I didn’t take a pic of that, so have one from a couple of days ago Cavcraft, LightBulbFun, Barry Cade and 2 others 5
Iamgroot Posted March 11, 2025 Posted March 11, 2025 Mate, I couldn't even see the needles in the bearings on my FJ12 when I swapped the swinger for the earlier ally one, SOLID Don't get me started on the availability and price of the replacements... Cavcraft and Stinkwheel 1 1

Same, the needles were obscured By the seized in plain bushes, once those were pressed out then the remains of rust and rollers all fell out. the full kit for linkages, swinging arm etc was about a 100 quid, so not cheap, but not terrible in comparison to some either. Iamgroot Posted March 11, 2025 Posted March 11, 2025 We share the same pain! The one unobtainium obscurum bearing was over £100 for mine, thankfully found the same part listed as an engine mount bearing for a different bike from an aftermarket supplier for £30, but still only the one bearing for that.
Cavcraft Posted March 11, 2025 Posted March 11, 2025 Lots of kicks later and the Lambretta is officially back on the road. Went down to the river on it the other day, unusually the only scooter there at the time. There are normally a few, but I think k they'd gone on a run somewhere. Anyhow, the usual array of (mostly) boring modern bikes were about, but also a Honda CB750F with an 1100 Bandit engine, and a very tidy GT380, a bike for which I'll always have a soft spot. That 23 plate Multistrada was a bloody nice thing, though. 5speedracer, Stinkwheel and Iamgroot 3

hairnet Posted March 13, 2025 Posted March 13, 2025 been drawn into the world of aliexpress is that game over broke the brake lever - 70€ in ireland so 56 here from usa 36 quid - that usually works but 40 quid to ship (WTF) the sneaky way round it is put the oem number into google or ebay and the places in eu or usa come up and muchos cheap not this time put honda nc brake lever into google and you get the adverts across and how much - there were the alloy adjustable ones (rizoma ripoffs and shit) but wanted standard saw some 25 quid but some were 13-14 saw one for 10 and change went looking and there was temu (just no) and ali on the site and no shipping and some kinda discount (first time user??) less than 8 quid shipped seeing as its a need not a want - likely that the oem ones are made by the chinese anyway just in an expensive honda bag Cavcraft and Stinkwheel 2
hairnet Posted March 13, 2025 Posted March 13, 2025 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-details/202502179187700 there was another that was 400 miles and 3999 but sold i think theres two other but the other colours apart from this and not sure about the blue ones are terrible and they were 4250 this is new and its 400 off nc would not be worth much tho Jerzy Woking and Stinkwheel 2

UltraWomble Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 Scootering News: Moto GB lost the franchise to import and sell Royal Alloy, Scomadi knock offs - as such they seem to be having a fire sale on parts (some are interchangable with the Scomadi bikes) but Ive also noticed that new pre reg bikes are now appearing on ebay and Autotrader from MotoGB dealers at substantially discounted prices sporting "shop soiling". Given that the new range launches in a couple of weeks with a new line of dealers I wonder how much more the prices of the older RA bikes will tumble (if you are not right fussed about having the latest LC version of the bike) 2024 Royal Alloy GT 125 GT125 125cc for sale for £2,490 in Stoke-On-Trent, Staffordshire Also Scomadi are making noises about a return to the UK market Ironic UK comeback for Scomadi? | NEWS | SLUK
Cavcraft Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 If Scomadi said it was raining, you'd have to go outside to check. They had all these great tales of a 300 (which did come true very briefly with a Vespa engine), plus a 250 manual and a 400 or 500, or something. Those new old stock R.A 125s are surely going to fuck the second hand market up a bit, £2,495 is a great price for a new one. twosmoke300 and UltraWomble 1 1

DeanH Posted March 15, 2025 Posted March 15, 2025 Took the CT125 (the original!) on its first outing today. Did an Australian green lane. Interesting experience. Made a fool of myself putting it on its stand. Looked away for one second and it fell on my shin. Smashed the indicator in the process. Arms from now on. Rustybullethole, Stinkwheel and Cavcraft 3
Jerzy Woking Posted March 15, 2025 Posted March 15, 2025 Two groups of friends have visited here in February, so took them to ride around Andalucia. Some great roads, but those just north of Almeria are just superb, such as the Alto de Velefique. Perfectly surfaced, devoid of other traffic, and sunshine. Only a bit of snow at 1900 metres, and then just under the trees. Highly recommended. Stinkwheel, Cavcraft and scdan4 3
