Just back from a four week 3,060 mile trip around the Balkans on my 1200 Guzzi, and it was a brilliant trip. We rode through every former state of Yugoslavia from Macedonia in the south to Croatia in the north, but only spent two days riding along the adriatic coast (from Dubrovnik to Pag) as we wanted to ride and see more inland areas.

Learnt a a lot about the war which ended 20 years ago, but many, many places bore the scars of that war. If you are ever in Sarajevo you must visit the exhibitions about the war - I had no idea that such atrocities took place then.

Managed to visit the 1984 Olympic bob sleigh track in Sarajevo at last (on my 3rd trip there in 6 years). We were the only two people wandering around up there. The track is complete with little damage from the sections we walked and the graffiti is actually good and is constantly changing.

Didn't see many bikes in some parts, apart from a few old mopeds and "The GS Crews". The was a lovely 1975 Tomos 50cc moped in military paintwork outside a bar in Prizren in Kosovo. Turns out the owner, Ernest, also owned the bar and told us he commuted 20 miles a day on it.

My phone went bang after 3 weeks and only have a few photos - hoping one of the techies at work can recover them from the phone for me.

We rode over to Dusseldorf and got the motorail to Vienna (€90 return for the bike, €55 for me sharing a 6 birth sleeper compartment), the cheapest and quickest route to the Balkans. My mate planned the route, but I'll stick it up here if anyone else is interested. There are some interesting roads and some even more interesting border crossings.

how much for your Zumo? I've had two Tomtom Riders now, both of which are now paperweights. I never learnt the first time.

Posted

fek whered you get the cheap quote from - they were quoting 400€ return to vienna

hence why id hire 95 E a day for an africa twin or 75 for mt07

zumo works fine in car - just charge it in house if needed on bike

only want 50 quid as it was bargain when i bought it new

I paid the same price for August as I did for my trip in May via OBB. Their website is a right fuckers to navigate though. Book the bike first, then your seat, then a sleeper. A two berth is extortionate price, the four berth not too bad, and a six berth cheap.

I'd like the Zumo if it's not already gone.

Posted

Just checked-can get a bike to Vienna from Dusseldorf and back for €90 if I go next week.

As I said, the OBB website is a bit of a pain to use, but with a bit of patience (which it most definitely needs) it's OK. See here https://tickets.oebb.at/en/shop

Word up, MUTHAFLIPPAZ, anyone know much about YBR125 Yam's? Been offered one at a good price (I think it's a good price, anyhow) but the headlight fairing is kippered, the rear brake doesn't work and the bars are a bit bent, ditto the footp[eg. Not really arsed about the bars and pegs, headlight fairing seems an oddity though, most on eBay don't seem to have them and the only actual fairing I've found for sale is £70 or something from Hong Kong. I only want to tart it up a bit then knock a few quid out of it, it's not tested and I won't be bothering putting in for one.

Ideas of current value (if possible) and where I might find a not-stupidly-priced fairing much appreciated. TIA.

If it's the later ones they actually pull very well indeed,

They also seem to hold their value quite well.

2004/5, slight dent in tank, non-existant (working) rear brake, bars bent, footpeg and gearlever bent (free fix with BFO hammer) fairing knack'd headlight has a hole too. £200, no MOT. I'd just like to do pretty much sod all (except the hammer bit) and try and see a ton fifty profit out of it. Do-able or no chance?

Do-able. Remember some of the parts you need are on the Chinese versions of the bikes imported here-the Honley springs to mind. Stuff like exhausts are a fraction of the price of the Yamaha one, and have identical fittings.

Posted

Yeah I think the Honley is a 1:1 replica, I also think a place near me (Earnshaws, Huddersfield) is a dealer, if not the importer of them, might be worth an ask for parts.

You could probably fix the fairing to an acceptable level with fibreglass and rattle canz.

I would say there's definitely some money in it, remember 125s are disproportionately expensive so even cosmetically challenged I would see it at 650 with an MOT to try and get a minimum of 500.

Thank you, much appreciated.

Earnshaws are indeed the importer and the Honley is a good bike - quite a few in London used by impoverished despatchers are showing well over 50,000 miles now and still going well.

There are two different types of headlight  - the euro version has a round lamp with no fairing and the grey import has a sort of square light with fairing.

So long as the brackets are OK, you can throw either lamp and fairing in the bin and fit a standard round headlamp from any early YBR.

Ive had one and it ran and ran and ran.

Bars are cheap to replace - footpeg can be bent back in shape with a length of scaff pipe.

footpeg can be bent back in shape when you back into it with the rover/veg wagon of choice

I think I would rather have a high milage Transalp than that Honley.

I dunno, I couldnt spend more than £700 on a Chinese bike right now, maybe in a few years.Oh i know lots of Jap stuff is made in China, but how many running, MOT'd 10 YO Chinese bikes do you see advertised on eBay / Autotrader / Gumtree etc compared with Jap bikes?

You could have this Pegaso, neither jap nor Chinese,  for €1200  powered by 652cc Rotax and it's got freshly minted MOT

That'll be why they are impoverished, they aren't doing enough work with that sort of mileage.

Is that price in euro or pounds?

And any pics of the bike rather than the fuel cap?

Euros though pound equivalent will also work.  Photo of the whole bike didn't come out too good but I'll get some more later on.

I need to pick your brains chaps... I'm having problems with my C90; more specifically in getting it to charge its battery.

When the battery died I put a meter across the terminals and there was a whole 7V going in, so - being a Honda - I put on a different reg/rec that I had lying around which made no difference. Right, so the stator's toast then? I put on a Chinese one I had lying around, which caused the bike to not run at all, with no spark. I suspect that this was because the pulse generator and the raised bit of the flywheel didn't line up (apologies for the technical terminology) so the CDI wasn't receiving any signal as to when it should generate a spark? So I wanged on a more likely looking flywheel from the box of crap under the bench and the bike ran, only now it produced just 2.5V at the battery terminals at tickover.

So a shopping I did go, and bought a complete Chinese flywheel and stator kit, fitted it all and got exactly the same result as above (2.5V). I tried a third regulator, just to be sure and the results were exactly the same. Bugger.

Given all this, am I now looking for ropey wiring, bad earths etc., or is there some other component that should be under suspicion for causing all this grief?

As ever, all help is gratefully received!
