The rubber O rings seemed quite flat so I can only assume someone has used the silicone rather than replace these to save 50p....

 

To be fair, if my memory of Kawasaki parts prices serves me right, it'd be waaay more than for a saving of 50p.

Turns out you are correct - £7.10 EACH from kawasaki

 

Methinks ill use my usual form and buy a bag from one of the online o-ring suppliers

That's why I bought about 2000 O rings in a box for the same price as one factory brand O Ring in a bag.. Absolutely ridiculous, the price of some parts. Then there's the insult of the postage...

This was the slave cylinder before getting the piston out.

 

 

You can see the rust mark where the top of the piston was rusted in place and I knocked it inwards by 5mm or so.

I'm afraid to say, I exaggerated greatly on the quantity of O-rings purchased (2000 vs 225).

I do similar, I just buy the mixed-multi o-ring sets off of the bay. i usually just buy viton, as I know i can use them in carbs. less than a tenner - i'm on the second set in 10 years and that's only because certain sizes deplete quicker

Bled my clutch system using a home made vacuum system with the pump from a 69p bottle of liquid soap.

 

Works a treat, fuck that pressure nonsense ever again!

 

Anyway, pull the clutch lever in, clutch working fine.. Yippee!!

 

But hang on did I see something out of the corner of my eye when I pulled the lever?

 

Yup, a squirt of brake fluid.. Turns out the hydraulic hose has a leak and that's been the reason for the problem in the first place.

 

Look on the net for standard replacement hose, shock horror, over £100 for OEM Suzuki!!!

 

Quick look at braided lines on eBay and I've got a black braided line (120cm) being delivered for £4.77!!!

 

Yes, it's some cheap Chinese item in the UK but for a clutch line, it'll do until I can pick up a cheaper OEM hose.

ive bought some of those cheap braided lines off of the bay. my fzr1000 has one on it's clutch. just the ticket.

That sounds positive regarding use on your FZR.

 

I thought as it was just the clutch, it's not as critical as a front brake line.

 

Seems to have been posted out already. Hopefully, get it some time next week.

The price of OEM replacements is ridiculous.

 

If the cheap Chinese one performs well, I might replace the rear hose next. But I'm very much the type that thinks, "if it ain't broke don't fix it"...

Only noticed the other day, it's still got ticket - forgot i only mot'd it last July [i moved house last summer, so had a lot on]. It's insured and taxed, so is 100% road legal.

 

Had planned on cleaning it, doing a few little jobs and putting on the 'bay. got it out, sat on it, started it; now not so sure. It's such an addictive little thing.

 

^^^ fyi it's got ebay viton seals in the carbs [after a massive carb spew-out not long after I got it] and chinese brake lines. I'm a tight fucker....

Whitby was good today, more Goths than ever. Guess there was something on? Some of the costumes are damned impressive.

It's Goth weekend. Wasnt there today but been in previous years (my parents are in Whitby - I don't go for the Goths). Like you say, some of the costumes have taken some serious effort.

 

On a separate note, I finally got the VStrom back together today after the winter rebuild - just need an MoT and tax. Itching to get out on the bike now so hopefully the weather improves.

Spent the whole weekend at Snetterton watching classic bikes racing.

 

Absolutely freezing and mostly raining, but a good weekend.

 

Lots of beer and vodka and a cosy bed in a campervan helped make it enjoyable.

I fitted some Michelin PR4's to the bike the other week and they got tested in a downpour today, unbelievable grip and totally confidence inspiring on wet greasy roads, I'm a convert, no more budget/old stock tyres for me, the difference is night and day, recommended
