Always wondered with a lot of those old VW campers with the mahoosive wheels and lowered to half inch off the ground, where the fuck can you go with it? It’d bottom  out within about 5 minutes?

I watched that being built over 3 days at Bug Jam 2008, with the intention of getting a world record for lowest VW camper. Then it got left outside until it showed up at the VolksWorld show a couple of years ago looking like that ^

Citroën never produced a CX hatchback but two Swiss coachbuilding firms, Caruna and Beutler, did. For a price. Because Switzerland.

The Saab and Squareback are both damn cool in my book.

Some have air suspension, but most of them from over the years just have adjusters in the beams and dropped spindles. They're basically dangerously awful to drive, with the steering box and beam steadily smashing themselves to pieces as they drive down the road. I've been in a few and you simply have to turn off the part of your brain that is in charge of mechanical sympathy. They're absolutely fucking horrible and even a slight crown on the road surface will mean you're dragging bits of the underbody along the road.

This is coming from someone who spent most of my 20s pootling about in stupidly low water cooled VWs (I used to carry planks of wood in the boot so I could get over speedbumps), the air cooled ones running as low as this are really on another level of misery, way beyond anything us mere mortals can imagine.

Where would you sit with insurance if the pigeon shit welding failed and the suspension collapsed at 50mph?

I saw one get stuck on a speed bump (the plastic/ rubber triangle type) at the Malvern show a few years ago. I thought it was very funny but from the way the guy dealt with it, it obviously wan’t the first time it had happened and he didn’t seem at all bothered. I don’t get it personally, why would you chose to make a vehicle worse? But each to their own and there are a lot like that now so people must like the look.

Yeah those rubber ramps were the worst - My mk2 GTI would get stuck on them completely, but I had practised the routine pretty well and with my two bits of wood I could be over them in 30 seconds. Nowadays I look back and wonder why I did it to myself.

In one of the vw mags someone said about the fact they had to take their t5 work van on detours to avoid road obstacles because it was so low; “it’s a way of life”.

As shit as it is, I kind of like it. Sort of Jadatoys style. IMG_20200529_150052.thumb.jpg.11bca7ef582be025384d42a74be0fdd2.jpg

But then again I've never professed to be a man of taste!!! ?

I'm reliably informed that this is a replica of the T5 Crew Cab 4Motion project.

I know exactly where this is sitting right now. I pass by it daily currently as it’s in the same site my storage/workshop is.
