Like like like & like. Great shots, love that windowless castle.

Lovely piccies as always Rab. Shiny motors really look good on the cobbles, don't they?

(Your immaculate giffer lada is actually an immaculate giffer spec Skoda Favorit, despite looking like a Samara. Good to see, just the same!)

Cheap 928 you say...

That Volvo 244 was built by nightmareracing on retrorides and has a metallic flake paint job roof if I remember rightly. I had the major horn for it when he sold it but didn't have the cash.

Lovely pictures as always Rab.

I'm finding that Saab more attractive than I should. Hmm.

Out of interest, just how cheap is a cheap 928 these days?

Rab, your pictures and stories are always interesting. Please keep them coming.

Also, its good to know that you are not giving up on your Aussi dream. I certainly ain't giving up on going back to Brussels where I know I'll feel more comfortable.

Where is this? No snow yet in Falkirk.

Ardnamurchan...West Lochaber...5.30am....just a sprinkle..on a glorious moon..now the sun looks like it will shine...

First time ive seen snow..at sea level since 1996...i admit i did go snowboarding up an NZ mountain about 10 years ago...but that doesnt count as i got a sun tan as well..

Despite it being zub zero tempretures, being British my mates and I were sat outside a pub in Bishop Burton in February about 18yrs ago just because it was sunny. Out of nowhere it started snowing and Wanda who came from Oz got incredibly excited as she had never seen snow before which we were pretty amazed about.

Incidentlaly that was where I saw my 2nd favourite ever road sign:

Great stuff as usual Rab, I'd say the 6-series is a UK-mainland car on a private plate, not enough Zs or Xs for it to be Norn Irn, IIRC.

Posted

It's definitely a Northern Ireland plate- three letters, one of them being I or Z, followed by four numbers.

Old folks decided it was new car time...the old Kangaruu...as sound as it was had to be replaced with a new one.So the Oban Times was advertising a 2010 with low mileage..so Old Man and I went off to Inveraray to have a look.Weather was absolute shite..blizzard thru Glen Coe and gales on Rannoch Moor. The Renault was for sale by Scotlands oldest marque dealership..he's been in business since the 1960s...he told us that he opened the business when he found out it was easier to get a new Dauphine than a new Morris Minor. Its a busy active garage..

The roads are notoriously treacherous so he has a successful ditch extraction operation..running four recovery trucks.

IMG_5088_zps152374e6.jpg

This had spun out and gone into reverse via a truck yesterday morning.

IMG_5096_zps117d9a1d.jpg

Obviously had to have a look round the back.

Out with old..see ya old girl.

IMG_5095_zpsd3c23241.jpg

In with the new..

IMG_5097_zpsc8ebcc66.jpg

Going across Rannoch on the way back..we got hit n chipped on the windscreen by an over sized piece of road grit.I was kinda sad to see the old one go...folks had it 13 years..never failed them..but they still got 750quid trade in..the old dealer actually was a nice bloke...told me he'd got rid of all his classics..ran off a long list!

Outstanding.

WTF is the story with the minty Avenger? If that was a Cortina he'd be a millionaire... is it a museum thing? For sale? I have a fondness for these as my late lamented aunt had a couple, before getting into Renault 14s.

Glad I wasn't sitting in that LR Ninety when whatever happened to it, happened.

The Avenger story has been bandied around the classic car media...dont know really what the story in why it was never used...and hes got an EBay winning Lotto ticket price on it..hence lack of sale..

No central diff on these. Using it in 4 wheel drive on anything but the loosest surfaces must result in horrific wind up in the transmission, courtesy of those 'big 'n' littles'?

that marina above doesn't look that bad, where as the aldi with its own lake/ecosystem in the footwell looks nasty...
