DVLA did not start to give cars dated registration plates or Q plates until August 1983 when the change from the Y suffix to the A prefix happened. That Escort was probably first registered in NI, the Channel Isles or overseas before it was given a Y plate. Or it was built up from parts and given a Y because it was the date of first registration. egg and uk_senator

500tops
Seeing this MK2 again was a lovely surprise. It belonged to a couple 5 mins from where I reside. It must be at least 15 years since I saw it last so I assumed it had either been scrapped or sold on. It seems as if it's been in continual use all these years and is still being MOT'd annually! Current owners since 1988. neil1971, danthecapriman, SteersWithThrottle and 7 others

The way Opel used to name engines was quite simple, really. N (normal) was carb, low compression . S (super) was carb, higher compression, i was injection, and D was (obviously) diesel. sutty2006

Six-cylinder
I went to a car gathering in Milton keynes yesterday evening, a bit different to my usual as it catered for all cars from 1950s Austins to Fiestas with loud exhausts and all points in between. For this thread I picked out a Nissan Stagea, Mazda 323, Daihatsu Copen, Honda Beat, Toyota Crown, Citroen Visa, Opel Commodore and Mitsubishi Starion. I also included this beautiful Wolseley Hornet as most of the long noise/boot Minis I see are Riley Elfs.
