Slightly utilitarian compared to many Japanese hearses though, it's true.

Can confirm. Hearses were called Polonez Bella and used Cinquecento or Atu taillights.

Nope. It was FSM that built Cinquecentos. FSO did Ticos.

Geez that is awful. The overall (lack of) size, the wheel trims…you can just hear those tinny doors slamming as the mourners assemble.

Glorious.  Particularly like that so much effort went into making the profile transition nicely from the door to the rear end and then they just sort of couldn't be arsed to do anything with the tailgate so left it as is.
