R9UKE Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Of course, being French, the coolant level isn't low.
R9UKE Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 That mint green is a nice change from the usual Renault orange.
55bloke Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Agreed. I hate orange! We've just got a 406, and it's dash is hideous! Rather like the modern trends for blue and red. The dashes are just about the only part of modern cars I actually like!
Wilko220 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Some of these dashes are things of absolute beauty. So to counter all that, here's the one from my LDV. Unfortunately, the illumination isn't all that great, so the first attempt was a bit of a fail Until I found an ingenious solution. willswitchengage 1

PhilA Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Impaler at night. GM actually got their act together and made a fairly pleasant place to be. uk_senator 1
dollywobbler Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Now that's a nice shade of blue. I find the Volkswagen blue too bloody dark!
Timewaster Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 As a daft 20 year old, I once spent an entire day removing all the clear bulbs from the dash of my Mk2 Cavalier and replacing them with orange ones. I waited with baited breath and scuffed knuckles surrounded by broken plastic tabs and clips for it to get dark enough to admire the effect of my genius idea, Has anyone guessed what the outcome was? No bloody difference - WHATSOEVER! A whole day and £15 of coloured bulbs resulted in exactly the same lighting albeit possible dimmer. Anyone got an 80's Audi with the red illumination? Not seen one of those for a while. cros 1
PhilA Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Now that's a nice shade of blue. I find the Volkswagen blue too bloody dark! It's all led's. About the same color as the displays on old vcr's. The odometer etc is the same type of vacuum-fluorescent for ultimate shite value. -Phil uk_senator 1

trigger Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 As i had my tripod out tonight (oh er misses) i took a couple of more fresh photos of my cars dashes. dollywobbler Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Nice shots Trig - though I do like to see straight steering wheels... How are you illuminating those?
trigger Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Thank you, the first two are just the street light out on the street and the Cortina is the garage light, all done on a tripod with remote and a slow shutter speed.
hairnet Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 shite shot more omg cos it was 5 am getting off the ferry
Skizzer Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 +2. Have a less impressive shot of a Rover 75, the day I collected it from chez Wuvvum: IMG_1150 by Skizzer, on Flickr
Dr Mike Oxgreen Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 The Blackpool illuminations, shite-style: I have never heard a satisfactory explanation for why the speedo is dimmer than everything else. "They All Do That, Sir".

phil_lihp Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Instead of catching up on sleep, I thought 12:00AM would be the ideal time to start playing with the long exposure settings on my camera. Then I remembered this thread, and went down to the garage: You can get some really nice effects with 4 - 15 seconds exposure on a low ISO setting.
Micrashed Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Instead of catching up on sleep, I thought 12:00AM would be the ideal time to start playing with the long exposure settings on my camera. I got up for a pee at 3am, so decided rather than go back to bed to wander down the end of the road and watch the midnight Manc to Blackpool bike race come past. I got some funny looks from the cyclists clad in their Lycra as I stood there applauding them, then realised I sleep in the nude Andrew353w and jbz2079 2
pandarus Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 My dash illumination does not work at the moment...
R9UKE Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Was late last night when I got round to the weekly spin in the fleet.
Pillock Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Sadly, I love this thread. Dash illumination is such a subtle art. My Leon was quite nice, all bright red backlit. Although I still like the VW blue and red like Mrs Pillock's Touran, it's note quite as tiring at night. My new Focus has quite a lot of white but it's insanely bright, the only car I've ever had to turn down at night. And I quite like the "ambient lighting" up near the rear view mirror which casts a faint orange glow down by the centre console.
Tayne Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I also like a nice bit of ambient lighting. The Audi merely had a wee red light in front of the gearlever, the BMW has lights on both footwells. And possibly in the back (I don't know, I don't sit there).
sco14 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Here is my attempt of the dash in one of the cars.
Chip Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Ooh, a 205 Rallye? Couldn't believe my luck when one of those turned up at the dealer round the corner from my mum and dad's, must have been in Summer 2000. Unfortunately, it was belching out black smoke on the test drive and the clutch was buggered, so that was the end of that!

It's a 205 Mardi Gras D Turbo fitted with a Rallye steering wheel which I have had for 18 years hanging up in the house. Its also got the Rallye decals fitted see 3 of my 4 Frenchies thread.
gtd2000 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Well several days later I finally took some snaps of my current wheels, "dash at night": I wasn't feeling blue at the time, at all....
