cort16 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 when are you going to eat the potato growing in the scuttle? overrun 1
Guest Breadvan72 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 In the spirit of Autoshite, cook the spud into chips and feed to the local tramps, who will probably be sleeping in the car anyway. That photo is possibly the best photo ever to appear on this website. tooSavvy, overrun and dugong 3
Station Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Twin lambs might be a urine sample for the vet or something?
twosmoke300 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Its a treatment for twin lamb disease I think. Pregnancy toxiema (sp)
oman5 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Dibs on the radio please! It's never good to see a rare car bite the dust but obviously needs must with this when parts simply are not available.
plasticvandan Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 For info, depending on the model, the radio mobile is worth £100+ with a simple mp3 conversion
Shep Shepherd Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I love the rusty wheelarch/Finnigan's No.1/remould photo. Puts me in mind of Father Shepherd's miniMetro
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Sod the calendar, let's do a coffee table book this year. Full of wonderful photos like that. It could be called "Rust Paint and Remoulds". eddyramrod, tooSavvy, Shep Shepherd and 2 others 5
KruJoe Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Glad to see Angyl's common-sense gland is looking a bit healthier this week. Do you have a healthy front cut to keep from this one, to replace the brown one accidentally scrapped? vulgalour 1
Micrashed Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Twin lambs might be a urine sample for the vet or something?More likely its corn or cod-liver oil, farmers use it when hand rearing lambs partly for the fat content and partly as a mild laxative to stop the lambs becoming eggbound and dying. EDIT - or perhaps its this:-http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/store/products/net-tex-twin-lamb-450ml
vulgalour Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Did a quick eBay and I didn't realise Radiomobiles were worth anything, much less what the converted ones are valued at. I'm not 100% sure, but it appears mine is fitted with this model... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-car-radio-RADIOMOBILE-1070-with-Ipod-MP3-lead-/131136438582?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item1e88574136 ...which is currently up for nearly £165, admittedly with full MP3/FM conversion. I thought it was maybe worth a tenner, so cheers for the tip off about it being worth something even in unmodified form. eddyramrod 1
Ghosty Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Where's the black interior going then, if it's a keeper?
vulgalour Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 The black interior is now destined for the beige car. Just after decided exactly what I want to do with the cream and purple, I get handed an almost perfect black interior which ties in neatly with the satin black exterior details and compliments the beige paint nicely. Should look quite sharp. Not sure whether or not the dash insert is going to go painted silver, brushed aluminium or very pale wood to tie in with the rest but keeping the car factory beige is certainly going to be a lot less work. eddyramrod, Ghosty and Skizzer 3
Inspector Morose Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Ooh, pale wood sounds nice. Other than that you could paint it beige as a subtle nod to base spec Austins?
KruJoe Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Poundland currently have a good* range of wood-effect adhesive vinyls...
Des Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Just before scrapping, could you very briefly offer it for sale here. overrun 1
vulgalour Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 There won't be a lot of it left when I get to the scrapping point but if someone were interested in the remains I'd be willing to sell it to them instead of scrapping. They'd have to be fast though, I've got about a week to get it stripped and gone due to space limits.
michael1703 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Urghh, wish I hadn't clicked this page, another car scrapped that doesn't need much work
Lukas Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 You can´t safe them all! Sometimes, you have to break a car to keep another one running. If he would not have taken it for breaking, it would almost certainly be crushed. Crushing it would not helped anyone. But now, the death of it helps to keep another one on the road. Lukas vulgalour, Timewaster and Skizzer 3
Ratdat Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I've broken and scrapped much, much rarer cars than a wedge just to get the parts to keep another on the road. It's the shite law of nature. Survival of the fittest. Lukas 1
KruJoe Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I wish I lived a bit closer so I could help out - I'm quite good at stripping a car to its bare bones. eddyramrod, vulgalour and phil_lihp 3
vulgalour Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Urghh, wish I hadn't clicked this page, another car scrapped that doesn't need much work I agonised over this decision for several days, it's not one I make easily because I know it's a restorable car. Fact is, if I don't break it I run the risk of having to break my beige one which needs less bodywork and probably less mechanical work and it helps get the red one finished that bit quicker and within budget. Sometimes the ends justify the means... sometimes. Today I'm hoping to swap interiors over between orange and beige, it'll go pretty quickly.
morris_ital_lover Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 There won't be a lot of it left when I get to the scrapping point but if someone were interested in the remains I'd be willing to sell it to them instead of scrapping. They'd have to be fast though, I've got about a week to get it stripped and gone due to space limits. Might be worth offering it to the banger boys? They normally pretty quick and little hassle and if it was to be scrapped anyway then I can't see the problem. Whilst it is a shame that a Princess is going to die, it needs a fair bit of work, the parts from it are going to be keeping two others going and it isn't as if Vulg hasn't done enough already to save Wedgy shite. It's much better to have two decent Princesses on the road and one in the sky then trying to maintain three ropey princesses and ending up with all three in the sky. Rocket88, vulgalour and scruff 3
KruJoe Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Might be worth offering it to the banger boys? Good idea, but I'd be surprised if it still rolls when he's done with it. Back axle's coming off for a start.
simmo Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Bit of an offish topic aside, does anyone remember the Mumford convertible Marina that was said to have previously belong to Linda Lusadi ? There was a bit on here about it being collected but not sure it went to an AS user. Bringing it slightly back on topic, in the collection photos there was an red Ambassador, if anyone is interested its still there. I have a new camera so wouldn't take a lot of persuading to get some pix if there is any interest. My view its to far gone but I'm always well impressed by the renovation threads, so who knows. It is about half a mile from me but on a main road so I imagines its been knocked a few times.
derskine Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 In my opinion old cars have to be broken to keep other ones alive. If you don't get the parts from this car you'll be getting them from another car - just this way works out much more financially economical. You're doing the right thing, you really can't save them all. scruff 1
vulgalour Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 I doubt the banger boys would be interested, I bought it from some banger boys in the first place and generally they like their cars to have wheels and engines in, which this one won't have. More on that... now. --- Today I planned to get the interior (apart from the dashboard) stripped and fitted to the beige one. If it hadn't been for the weather I would have managed it, I came very close. Before I get to that bit, I want to show you all the reasons the orange car is getting broken. All of these areas are in better condition on the beige car. Floor to sill under the rear seat both sides. Floor over the outrigger under the driver's seat. Floor over the outrigger in front of the passenger seat and floor to sill seam. Rear driver's side arch. Rear driver's side door. Front driver's side door. Rear lower quarter, driver's side. Lower trailing edge and lower leading edge of driver's side front wing. Incidentally, these areas are good on the beige car so I can make one good wing out of two bad ones and that's exactly what I plan to do. Lower leading edge of passenger front wing. Passenger side rear arch. Passenger side lower rear quarter and bumper mount. The sills shouldn't be too tricky to remove either, under the weather strip it looks like a pigeon was given the task of gluing them to the car. Even if I swapped the better panels from the beige car to the orange one, I'm still left with a much larger welding bill to even get through an MoT, let alone the additional work the orange car needs that either doesn't need doing or has already been done on the beige car. This isn't all the rot in the orange one either, the front valance isn't as perfect as I hoped and I found another patch of rust where the rear seat support joins the passenger side inner arch. morris_ital_lover 1
catsinthewelder Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 By the time you've stripped the engine, running gear, interior, glass and donor panels off that you'll be able to get the remains in the wheelie bin. PhilA 1
