The Police one I picked up at the car boot Sunday.  Didn't really want it or need it; but thought it might be of interest on here.  Seller wouldn't let it go for less than £2.50.  Well fair enough, it was in Hertfordshire, where houses are £400k for a mid-terrace.  There were a few more 'St Albans families' there than usual, that were clearly not used to being stall traders.

The separate plastic tailgate hatch is static!  That was a surprise...  yet the doors open...

20200713_195935517_iOS.thumb.jpg.7364e512355e933e8dc9a4fdf1468d66.jpg

Just looked at the trade catalogues posted on page 611 of this thread and it's not featured as a variation.  I wonder if it is rarer then?  Is that what the seller knew?

20200713_195926775_iOS.thumb.jpg.b38347bde092d8eb5dfd812e5e0e2931.jpg

I also want to know what the red spot on the roof is about.  I thought it was a sticker applied by a child, especially as it's plain and off-centre.  But no, it's part of the tampo.

20200713_200004583_iOS.thumb.jpg.0fe6ab07c1a52747a31f580744110e50.jpg

So, did L323 JMO exist in real life?

Did the Metropolitan Police really use the Porsche 944 with 924GT Le Mans body kits?

Some deft white paint pen on the chips should make it look smarter as the tampo is saveable and worth keeping on I reckon.

If someone wants it for money back or swappage, it's available.

I assumed this was a work of fiction so was surprised that it turns out L323 JMO was indeed a Porsche police car and there's a photo at https://www.porscheregister.com/l323-jmo. It's a 968 though as the 944 had gone out of production by then, presumably a demonstrator trialled by the Met. DVLA says it had an LPG conversion and was exported in 2010.

The red spot on the roof I think is something to do with police helicopter crews identifying their cars on the ground. Modern cop cars usually have their call signs marked on the roof too.

Thanks, yes I assumed as much but hadn't expected it to be plain

This shot shows the 'spot' is authentic and has added background chod content as well

So it had a sunroof, a weird fitment on a cop car that would explain the lack of blues and twos. The livery looks nicely authentic but it's a shame they used the wrong model of Porsche. Did any of the toy manufacturers ever make a 968? I did find another photo of L323 JMO as a plain white 968 with red ClubSport graphics, presumably after it was decommissioned by the police.

Since found out the Met Police 944 model was part of the Corgi Classics 'Collection' range for 1995.  So finding it loose and playworn and not mint in box - makes it the rarest version to find ?

Cheapo far-Eastern models of generic US Custom Vans, hey?

Apparently not.

Yes, apparently these Hong Kong built toys are both Bedford CF vans. Hmm.

Of the two, the white one seems to be slightly better quality in terms of its detailing, while the black one is somewhat cruder in its shaping. They're very very similar, but not the same at all.

20190621_095219.thumb.jpg.f29e55ea7944b3a204c49e86b4d0ce68.jpg

20190621_095238.thumb.jpg.5cfeca47586c799269f1273db6a0a18a.jpg

I can almost believe that the one on the right is a CF1 Facelift/CF2, though the black one is less convincing - the indicators are in completely the wrong place.

20190621_095245.thumb.jpg.af883396c73ea08f955820ae8f6728d5.jpg

The white van looks rather less slab-sided, and the rear lights would suggest the aftermarket units popular on Australasian-market CF1 models - because it doesn't match the standard 'long' UK spec rear light on the original vans, and definitely not the much wider units fitted to the CF2.

1355264009_BedfordCF1Van-Australia.jpg.d1f9cec1fb7ae9d05b1e5bf678ff5f45.jpg

Interesting all the same!

I can sleep at night now, finally achieving both casting 'types' of the Hong Kong Bedford not-a-CF

20200713_231555037_iOS.jpg.1e388793ed28f89260e0e0eb8a25c491.jpg

The blue 'Rainbow' one is unbranded, just stating 'BEDFORD' and the recessed flank swage line detail is much clearer

20200713_231641773_iOS.jpg.6dcffe59db2565f87bf6580751970d65.jpg

Grim.  But hey, it has big and fake Superfast wheels!

A 50p Corgi Whizzwheels Bizzarrini Manta now lives with the Corgi Rockets Bizzarrini Manta.

What's so special?  Well, it was the first car by 28-year-old Giorgetto Giugiaro's new company called Ital Design, built around a former Bizzarrini 1967 Le Mans racer chassis and finished up in time for the 1968 Turin Motorshow; to launch the new company.

A big Chevy V8 inhabited the back, while the lucky driver sat between his two, presumably lady, passengers

There was also the Electro rocket Corgi Rocket version. I had one and used to charge it from a battery. It was equipped with "proper" rubber tyres for the all important grip.

Shame it's long gone.   It's also a shame Corgi didn't upscale the Manta as well.  It's always looked way too high even on its Whizzwheels version and needs the base redoing completely.  Something @bunglebus would be good at scratchbuilding ?  [hint, hint]

The most valuable Electro Rocket today is the Alfa Montreal.  Discussed in previous pages in more detail, the Montreal wasn't also released as a basic Juniors model

This fella did a scale speed trials against the Matchbox Scorpions and Hot Wheels Sizzlers:

...with a commendable result from a basic Gran Torino!

Someone mentioned Metosul the other day and that reminded me they had made this. No, I haven't flipped the pictures, it really is a LHD Leyland Atlantean.

MetosulAtlantean1.thumb.jpg.8c8485c19e4290d5823c91d3aa451bf3.jpg

These are quite sought after and go for strong money, especially when boxed, but I found this one for a reasonable BIN and it arrived a few days ago.

MetosulAtlantean.thumb.jpg.3b3d0a318bee62061ea1f96d2a687f8d.jpg

I thought it was a repaint at first but it turns out the slightly iffy masking and hand painted detailing is factory finish. A few chips here and there but it's in a pretty good state.

MetosulAtlantean2.thumb.jpg.9cfdfea4e6b1c56e5acd2786cab91215.jpg

It's not just a mirror-image copy of the Dinky toy though. There's a host of detail changes when you compare them.

Makes for a good companion to the recently completed Chevelle, but look at the terrible panel fit! I don't think the bodyshell is sitting down on the floorpan as much as it should be, but it's as far as I could get it.

Apart from the poor panel fit around the front end the Ford looks good. Mine's looking better after a rinse under the tap and a wipe over with a cloth.

I popped down to Halfords for some £3.00 spray cans yesterday.

There should be enough there for a few more models.

Venetian Red! Can't imagine many people walking in off the street to buy a can of that now.

Hmm, don't know what happened to the text there....

What you're seeing is most of my recent restorations, posed with the bargain garage I restored a few years ago.  So let's have some more...

Can you tell it's too wet outside to work on Huggy?

I dug out my boxed Corgi 1/36s, I think this is all of them; not very many.

I think I've shown you the two Sierras, Capri and Escort van before, but I might have missed out the Senator, which actually wasn't mine (although it nearly was): this car was bought by my old friend Dave, more or less under my very nose.  Full marks to him for finding the model and painting it to match his car though, and an extra point for passing it to me before he died.

It's time the rain stopped!

Yes, you did I thought so  ^

It's a model that seems to be pretty rare?

I chickened out of trying to create a boot for the Corgi R16, instead picking up a whizzwheels one for spares.

In true AS style, I've left the boot blue, and not sure whether to paint the whole car. Spares car yeilded a tyre for under the bonnet, better glazing and crucially - a parcel shelf!

I've drilled holes into the rivets and used tiny screws to reattach the chassis.

I tonight I’d share my best ever buy - any ideas?

The Clintons cards carrier bag is holding up well for a 20-something year old piece of disposable tat. However the contents are a bit special...

Purchased from a garage sale in 1989 just up the road from my house, when (back then)  faithful boot sales were only *just* an embryonic thing leaving you just jumble sales  or junk shops for your diecast bargains - toyfairs were serious places to spend money £££!

So nestled amongst the household junk was a very unfamiliar toy, I knew the very familiar logo but had never seen the toy before, this era being just before the 1/36 I grew up with.

Corgi Gift Set 21!

Now I knew it was unusual (and probably a small fortune new) but over the years I found out just how scarce it was. Very lightly played with, bar a broken catch and a trodden on cage. It’s suffered by a child actually playing with the damm thing ?

The elephant cage (the trunky fella has vanished in search of sticky buns) looks like a 60’s dad has trod on it and had a failed glue attempt.

C3802051-E9BF-475C-836F-39FCADE938E5.thumb.jpeg.f85bcdeedeff64c95d682d197585fe38.jpeg

The Scammel has a slightly skewed crane (bet that’s 60’s dad fault too) and a spare wheel wedged in rather than riveted from new seemingly? Finally the rear securing hook of the crane has fractured clear off. Apart from that it’s just lovely, pristine almost.

Tony the Tiger has absconded his cage and taken two cage fronts with him! I’m really not sure on the actual animals in this set, I have a leopard and a black bear in the cages.

The Scammel truly is a work of miniature art though  - it’s a beautiful casting incredibly delicate. Fully detailed sprung chassis and lovely wheels.
