No, I’ve got loads of those type XJS, maybe 7-8 of the various colours etc.

The Grifo might be the most elegant matchbox casting from the pre superfast era. Perhaps the Ferrari Berlinetta just edges it. With some brake fluid I've managed to take the worst of the overpaint from this one from @155V6. Very nice as is.

Finally, I have completed the Renault 14 kit.  It is... less than adequate.  I still like it anyway, for all its shonkiness.

The doors open, after a fashion.

The bonnet and tailgate don't so much open, as come off entirely.  The dashboard doesn't sit in the proper place at all, the rear axle is too far forwards in the body, the bumpers needed trimming to line up with anything, and the indicators at the front are just holes next to the headlights, so I put the indicators in the bumper with the sidelights instead.

It's a pretty rubbish model, even more so than I was expecting.  It required a lot of work to get it to look this good and without serious surgery I doubt you'd get it to look any nicer.  The plastic of the body is toos oft and flexible and the plastic of the base doesn't like to let paint stick.  It's a fight to build and the only reason I did is that I was determined to have a Renault 14 kit in the collection.

It looks a great job all considered and has out lived the real thing - therefore bonus!

I reckon I would have just tossed it, at the doors stage probably

Anyone got a 3D printer so we can scan and scale it up? Just imagine, a proper hot rally 1:32 slot car. The slot car show fellas at Gaydon will swoon

And another Kennel Truck - I keep buying donors but they're all too nice. This has the steering chassis, another reason it can't be a grille donor

I’m keeping the yellow Rolamatic Ranger for now, but now I have the bigger 1/30ish Lucky Toys one to focus on I can let the other two go from the projects pile. One has grille as you can see - the drilled hole in the roof and aircraft decals idea was by me in my childhood

Talking of which...

Will need to fashion a hood for it. Was thinking of plonking a massive comedy blown engine in there instead, but if anyone spots a parts donor on travels please let me know

Well done for persevering with it! You've done a great job and it does at least resemble a 14 (which is more than could be said for the box art).

I like Marx cars of that era too, I'm just reticent of starting another range to collect!

Posted

They're pretty small. I'm always seeing the really tiny ones that are similar and sold under a million different brand names - but I used to have a set so I'll leave them alone

Worth scanning and printing that interior onto fresh card, or paper that you then glue to some card, for the restored one?  Seems a shame to put a slightly scruffy interior into a nice freshly painted car like that.

Posted

To be fair the most crack handed drawer (me for starters) might do better by doing a fresh card. The whole range of Marx and others could get sets done in various colour schemes

Cottage industries will be ramping up in output over the next few months what with folks stuck indoors away from the virus riots and this could be one of them!

Never seen one in red. I have one in the very popular yellow.

Managed to pick up a Husky Reliant TW9 today in decent nick. Guy wanted all of the money for it at £2 but worth it I think seeing as the chances of finding another are slim. Also picked up an Ogle Reliant Scimitar of same make for 50p.

Any ideas on how to get the lights working without dismantling?

That model would have been great with a detailed interior/clear windows...

Scrub that question. Cleaned up / bent the contacts, fresh batteries and Voilà!

I have this, didn't know it was part of the Corgitronics range, just a one-off; as the base doesn't have the Corgitronics logo

WP-20190611-20-42-36-Rich.jpg

The bulbs have gone walkies, but it can be encouraged to light the way by popping a slim LED torch inside.  I might just replace the base with a slot car one (having wider wheels to fill the arches) and run 12v bulbs, especially as the proper Scalextric Maestro is worth more than I can bear.  Saying that, I paid way too much for it on an eBay shilling bidding war, as you do.
