Nice little pick up today and one I'd not seen before in this 1/43 IXO Hindustan Ambassador. Thought it was a no brainer at a tenner.

That’s mad - I gave all my old cars to my son recently, and just today I was looking at that yellow van and wondering why the hell it had that weird bit of plastic rather than doors. I wasn’t clever enough to look inside!

I think I have two of the TV vans lurking around too, I remember really liking those as a kid because of the moving parts.

Nice to see alongside a HW Sizzler, to compare size. That must be a very early box too, as I thought this was the only packaging for those

IMG_0597.jpeg.4b14c732ebb65d679d9d450cac88aca2.jpeg

Angelino M70 was from the first 1970 batch of six.  Based on the Ford J-Car, with a big rear wing addition. Which means I ought* to dig out an original-16 J-Car die-cast example and take some shots together

A Hot Wheels Sizzler named Angelio M70 met up with a Hot Wheels Sweet-16 named Ford J-Car earlier this evening

20250803_164425767_iOS.jpg.d25e2495373ee9df79d22e79b10cbb87.jpg20250803_164419279_iOS.jpg.27d1954aa99bd7a91d1fc3ca0f49ade0.jpg

Obviously the 1968 Sweet-16 J-car is die-cast and from the first year of Hot Wheels production.  It has an opening thing! and the grime and wonky axles on this example are genuine.

The 1970 Sizzler is plastic bodied, has a dead motor inside as well as its a terribly-corroded electric circuit due to the original Ni-Cad battery cell still fitted in there, which has leaked over time. The rear spoiler on top of a redesigned rear deck was a non-faithful addition for the Sizzler only.

20250803_164341054_iOS.jpg.e87712453c066da698425353101a2d42.jpg20250803_164257030_iOS.jpg.05b5d30998a7175b0a8145e537613259.jpg

Oh look!  Another example has arrived!  It's in slightly better condition but the rear clip has been attacked by felt-tip pen and a hinge lug is missing

The real thing, which was tested at Le Mans, 1966. It set the fastest lap time and became the basis for the Ford GT Mk.IV that won the race in 1967

fa6234ec55313b04c8ca4f32d422f510.jpg.de7c6595835d8c8d8e3550ca22e6da6a.jpg

So with that information, each model has been measured and the determined scales are just in!

Sizzler: 1:58

Sweet-16: 1:66

Aldi must surely be in the front running for being the best, and certainly the cheapest, UK retailer selling basic Hot Wheels mainlines. My store was stuffed full of Case L just a week ago and is already now on Case M! If by some miracle you haven't found the Lotus Cortina this is the retailer to find em! 😉

Wow that's bad. This is just a normal suburban Aldi store but they always get through tonnes of Hot Wheels.

Ours aren't great either, a few green King Cudas and black Rivieras in evidence but that's about it.

My local Morrisons had the Cortina/Quick Chat phone mix on clip strips but denied having any more in stock despite them definitely not all being out (I'm in there most days for the Post Office)

Ive got that one, no idea why it was branded a Corsa but from memory the 'Vauxhall Nova' script underneath was removed. Ive also got the BP version and a couple of early plastic base examples. Weirdly neither of the metal based ones have glazing in the rear tailgate. A very nice little model that I appreciated as a kid, although the Metro was always my favourite.

The famous "all we have is out" despite knowing only a small amount of a full 72 count case hasn't been put!

This Aldi had zero Hot Wheels in for over two weeks, I wrote a Hyacinth Bucket style email complaining, and a week later that store was loaded to the rafters with Case L 😅😅😅

I was just shocked that just one week later they had already moved onto this M batch.

Ok fella’s, remember a few pages back I think it was @Datsuncog that posted up that a certain French seller was listing a Reliant Robin van?
Well, I kept quiet at the time as I had one on its way over!!😄

Oddly though, mines a yellow version.
I’ll say it now, but if you don’t have one you really should get one because it’s so cool!

Not a bad stab at the interior either for a partwork car.

IMG_7716.jpeg.54ac1d36a611937ecbd286a46e06eb4b.jpeg

Notice however, that the van section actually has windows on the sides with a vinyl sticker type thing over to create a van from the estate. Inside the interior moulding has rear seats in place so in theory making the estate car version from it should be possible.
All that aside, it’s a fantastic little thing. Great details and some nice badges on the back. Got to be worthy of a place in any collection just for novelty value if nothing else!

This was with it too.
Im not a huge Mercedes fanboi really but this was too nice to ignore. Something that might interest @AndyW201!

That Merc IS a belter, you're right. I've got a few facelift Minichamps versions, but that's a nice bit of pre-facelift steel- wheeled loveliness there! Colour is not far off the actual Merc Thistle green from that period. Interior detail is easily as good as the Minichamps too. Is that from Jumajo then? Not seen it on there.

I also need one of those Robins, mainly as it has a Middlesbrough registration number! Sadly they'd sold out on there when I looked.

It’s from a place in Spain. They’ve got all sorts but seem to have a few things other places don’t.

Ive no idea what partwork either of them are from tbh, and the Merc I’ve not seen anywhere other than the place in Spain.
Stupid really though, that you have to get a model of a British car with a British number plate from abroad because our country is too shit to stock them.

I had to collect a parcel for the Mrs from Waitrose and remembered they have a few HW on display. Meagre offerings today, but I snagged this black Miura to go with the red one. Waitrose tax, though - £2.30. At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!

Pen will be a dry wipe marker, think the alcohol in them can remove the tampos.

The detail was using a paint pen, not sure on the brand but Posca ones are good.

Headlights are a good idea but using the wrong thing, diamontes work much better. I fitted them to a Hot Wheels Beetle in place of the weird metal posts it had

Not bad, but the domed headlights look silly and the totally wrong V-prefix reg (from James Bond's BMW Z8) suggests it was done by somebody who has no knowledge of the UK registration system. Better to leave the numberplates off than fit something so inappropriate.
