Just been to the toy fair, was rather early so things were still being set up. Found a new seller and I could see he had a dozen older boxed Matchbox but as he was nowhere near set out I gave him 10 mins then popped back - to see the dealer opposite walking off with the whole lot - and wouldn't even give me a price on them. He's bloody expensive at the best of times too, the one with the fake Matchbox lorries a few have seen. I know the boxes had £10 on them, I'm betting they'll be £25-30 a pop when he brings them back as they were absolutely mint. Pissed on my chips so I'm going home to sulk.

Here's some pics of other stuff

Solido Dinky Toys – Cougar – Filrouge automobile

Quote

Les Dinky Toys Solido – Cougar

In 1979, Meccano Liverpool had just filed for bankruptcy and Dinky Toys survived in France thanks to the production of models produced in Spain. In 1980, an agreement was made between Dinky Toys Great Britain and Solido to produce a series of miniatures, nine models were planned, six of which were manufactured.
These are cars from the "Cougar" series from Solido, inexpensive models, equipped with fast wheels and decorated in bright colours. The floor is engraved "Dinky Toys Made in France", with a reference in 1400. They are packaged in an English Dinky Toys box with reference in 500. Whew!
Dinky Toys Solido-Cougar - ChassisThese 6 models will be marketed in small numbers in the United Kingdom and Belgium during 1981.

The back of the box announces nine models, only the first six will be produced.

No I thought it was pretty interesting, and it's an Anglia not a Horsey Horseless. However it was on the stand of my new enemy so he can keep it!

Just looking through my motley selection of cars, Corgi police Beetle is pretty nice, all complete and the steering wheel hasn't fallen off

Well if anyone sees him, there was a red Gruesome Twosome, and a Monteverdi Hai among others

Had a largely unproductive hunt today. Checked our Boyes in town, but all there was were a load of Hot Wheels mainlines from over a year ago, and some similarly aged Matchbox 5 packs.

Smyths was similarly rubbish. HW mainlines were mainly fantasy and older castings. Premiums were either Fast & Furious peg warmers or very elderly Pop Culture/Boulevard stuff (including ones from the Jay Leno's garage collection that must be from 2 or 3 years ago) that despite a price cut to £6.99, are still going nowhere. I was tempted by the black Volvo 142 racing, but I got the orange one fairly recently, and I prefer that to be honest. Was also tempted by the BRE Datsun set too at a reasonable £14.99, one day I will crack with that one, but my birthday's coming up and I've got something a bit special for that.

The day wasn't a complete loss though, I nipped into one of the B&Ms, and they've had a restock of Matchbox (first one in about 18 months for this store),

IMG_20250309_154423.jpg.9134656ab1b776ec3205519a839428d2.jpg

Didnt think I'd find one of these in the wild, I've got the previous red one in a Power Grabs box, but this blue version is lovely.

IMG_20250309_154207.jpg.3be69010ab39a265a685aaec5c5d4d1f.jpg

I know these are pretty much old news now, but I was still fairly excited to actually find one in a shop and not have to go online like I've had to with the others

IMG_20250309_154503.jpg.fa51647f32afadaae89191a8d86d00f7.jpg

The Fiesta is, I think, my favourite Mattel casting of recent times, I still can't believe they actually did it. Still love the detailing on it, especially that rear view.

IMG_20250309_154740.jpg.1ac8739f66d750b5aac59a32333457a5.jpg

There were a few of the HW Japan Historics too, first time I've seen premiums in this particular store. I've already got the Corolla, which is superb, but this Civic was the other one I wanted. Already a great casting, I've got a few mainlines, but this one's by far the nicest with its more subtle paintjob and extra detailing,

My Uncle had a garage in Bethnal Green from the 60`s to the early 90`s, he mainly did bodywork, a lot of it on FX4 black cabs, & he also had a small fleet of them which he rented out. At one point he had an FX4 with a Harvey Bailey (?) type manual towing crane hanging out the back of it, seeing that's making me want to do a recreation in his memory, maybe using a Corgi FX4?

Heres a pic showing him outside his arches in the 80`s, with one of my other Uncles 5 series behind the door, probably after having one of its 3 or so resprays!
