Shite in Miniature II

I went to the local steam rally on Monday and couldn’t resist a model of a Landrover Forward Control 101 army radio van for 8 quid.

One thing I really like about Oxford Diecast is their willingness to tackle really quite obscure versions of already obscure vehicles. Fantastic detail for such a tiny model.

Further savings to be had today in Poundstretcher...

Vaguely annoyed I bought so many of these at £1.49 last month, as most of them are still there now they're further reduced to 99p! Silver Morris Minors, white BMW Tourings, that sort of thing. No more blue Volvo 240s or green Mk1 Golfs left, mind - so I did ok there.

Ah well.

Also, another new Hot Wheels Silverline collection to be found on a lower peg - Hot Wagons:

IMG_20240827_1418572.jpg.c0787d2c6e4866d566d36642d72649bc.jpg

I'm guessing these are also out at £6 a pop, same as the Porsche collection................

I popped into a local Poundstretcher today and was pleased to see they also had the Hot Wagons range, so I picked up the Datsun plus a few Matchbox (rude not to at 99p each). Datsun didn't scan at the till and manually entering the code didn't work, so she put it through at the same price as the Celebration Porsches.

They also had the Pontiac and Nova, but I restrained myself and there was no sign of the Volvo or Audi.

Right, OK. I've these for @bunglebus and @bramz7

Now, the tractor only cost 3€ and frankly it wasn't in great condition, you're under no obligation to have it off me @bunglebus, I may offer it to others on here for what I paid:

The wheel does roll though but only very slightly stiffly.

Here are some more detailed pics of what was on offer:

Project ‘bloody minded twat’ aka: the Dodge 50 is progressing well.

Colour is on, bumper & grill done in black. Some of the details are being painted too. Tomorrow I’ll make a pair of rectangular indicators for the front and I’ve found some jewel headlights with flat backs, so I’ll glue a couple of thos on as headlights.
BMC LD van is at a similar stage now too.

IMG_5601.jpeg.9ae9e6e132a262ae4a947c0abd3590ea.jpeg

That Dodge has been a right sod to make! Nowhere near as easy as I thought to start.

Wow, that's looking amazing! I'd never have believed you could make that from the unpromising source material that looked nothing like a Dodge 50 to me. Not surprised it's been a sod with the amount of work you've put it to totally transform it - it's well worth the effort though.

Thanks!👍

It’s not an easy build but enjoyable! It’d be much easier if there was something better available than the starting model, but I don’t think there is. Just got to take whatever you can get sometimes.

Did the lights this morning. The headlights are a touch too big I think but I can’t find the smaller gems I’ve got. When they surface I’ll swap them I think.
Glazing next, which is not my favourite of jobs! I was going to reuse the original glazing but with the re profiling of the roof it doesn’t fit properly anymore.

Hot Rocker base, the standard Capri one has the rivet holes in the wrong place.

Yes, it required a bit of grinding at the base of the A posts inside (art imitating life eh!) as for some reason on the Super GT they have reinforcements in. Then it fits on ok. I was going to do some custom wheels but I’m going for the look of ‘what could have been’ perhaps as part of Lesney rationalisation.

Must have been great in those days working there, I’d have really struggled with the temptation not to do my own version whilst the management weren’t looking.

Today's acquisitions:

IMG_3633.JPG.fe5ae5d54bea3aae20d2f94b7c02b3bb.JPG

Mitsubishi and Honda from Sainsbury's (but alas still no MP Anglias!). The S2000 looks more attractive in this guise than the Collectors series one. There was a card for the Premium Skyline R32 but some toerag had snaffled it....

The remainder were from PoundStretcher, great to get the Datsun -its £6 cost was offset by the Matchbox at 99p each. The Minor had completely passed me by.

Not that it really matters, your model your choice.

This comment has just trickled back into my semi-comatose mind, for no apparent reason...

Just to say, this 'Plaxton 100 Years' coach is still on Colin's stall four months down the line, and still priced at £12.

You can take this as a public service announcement, in case anyone's super-keen...

There's a nice green Siku VW crew cab hiding in there I didn't spot before

If you want them, I might be able to grab them but I'm not planning to pass by, the shop is located in a very difficult to get to part of the city that's full to bursting with cars and roadworks.

To be fair, they've been there a long time, the multi-packs were there last I came to Brussels in April so if they are still here next time I can grab them for you if I don't manage to this time.

If you are able to pick them up that would be great, I've not seen those 5 packs for a while so the tic-tac BMW should be mint.....

That Hot Wheels Anglia is very impressive, to my eyes it’s a better representation of the real thing than the much larger offerings by Dinky and Spot-On apart from the door windows as you said.

It of history to it actually, I bought the knackered Hot Rocker in the mid 90’s, axles fucked, engine had all the chrome come off and I painted it in yellow humbrol. Couldn’t find another engine to use in it so I’ve reshelled it. Only took me nearly 30 years…

Lovely job on that!
What colour is it?

I must admit, I do prefer the versions of these with the non opening parts. I wonder what the super gt Capri body would look like on early pre super fast wheels??

It’s Halfords Yellow spray paint - generic.
