Had this Corgi Junior giveaway Renault Turbo 2

B28FFAFA-56AE-423D-8ED2-796682AE1C6F.jpeg

And the one in yellow original livery but had no care for it as had the 1:36 one.  And to think they expected those door mirrors to last all of five minutes.

Now where is that Majorette one can't find it

What a bunch of big kids we are!

Oh....

100_0612.thumb.JPG.942fd8a33adc124b31f4ba20445588dd.JPG

This must have arrived one day while I was out.  It was wrapped in Christmas paper among the presents MrsR had laid out for me, but as it was a different design I thought maybe it had been sent by one of her children.  Then I opened it up and knew immediately it had come from the excellent Mr @FakeConcern of this parish!

One or two can go straight on display...

100_0613.thumb.JPG.705bdb03fc3da2d0920d03cc381f9fb9.JPG

But some of these, and everything you see below, have gone into my Projects box for restoration.

100_0614.thumb.JPG.fd7367b40dba0334301a1a4a7788debf.JPG

Or in the case of these bits, modification.  It'll be months before you see these again and I may have to repost this pic as a reminder.

Thank you kindly sir!  Merry Christmas.

I may have got some toy cars for Christmas. Mrs picked up a box full of these Retro Matchbox quite cheaply online

Apart from occasionally birthdays christmas is now really the only time I get small stuff.

20231225_194638.thumb.jpg.8d59268fd029e0a49b38d0034aa04f2a.jpg

The corgi barchetta I have but as a rocket. Did you know this was the concept car that morphed into the X/19?

I don't ever recall having the skybusters commanche when I was little. Neither the matchbox corvette - it's the first edition in metallic red - there don't seem to be that many for sale.

I have the RS 2000 but in a blister pack. The corgi stromberg helicopter was cheap and will go with the moonraker drax one that I already have.

The horsebox is another I had as a nipper - sadly one of the horses has broken legs and will have to go to the glue factory.

RS2000 is the pick of the bunch there, but the carded Corgi is nice too

Some diecast action here this morning too, nominally from Father Christmas...

IMG_20231225_2020522.thumb.jpg.8d1c09582a6503bfb93ee90451948250.jpg

It's the Corgi Model Club rendering of the #323 Citroen DS19 wearing Monte Carlo rally decals.

IMG_20231225_2021072.thumb.jpg.a0911bb26eb8de1ddf56ec8d0ed02993.jpg

I'm not at that crazy about racing/ rally cars, generally preferring cooking versions, so this was a release I was slightly ambivalent about when it was launched last year - which is sort of why I chose to skip this model.

IMG_20231225_2021142.thumb.jpg.56d46f4eafd70f4d40889e4eb4f47f2d.jpg

I was also kinda potless around that time, what with the house move and all, so it was maybe more a necessity than a choice.

But! It's here, belatedly.

And it is quite nice.

IMG_20231225_2021312.thumb.jpg.6452fd629337b25d6ce13eacd8200425.jpg

Due to some bizarre fuckery with Stellantis, Corgi were barred from using the Citroen name or badging anywhere on the model or packaging. But they could use the name on the certificates.

IMG_20231227_1016592.thumb.jpg.91b187960ab6a52718b6370b76a4b4fe.jpg

Which just seems downright weird.

IMG_20231227_1017062.thumb.jpg.669cc3068ea60b1c1475201f80a738a7.jpg

Good to have it alongside the others, finally.

I also skipped the latest Club release, the Fire Chief version of the Chevrolet Impala, so expect to see that turn up at some point in the distant future once my completionist tendencies get the better of me once again...

Excellent to see some nice stocking-fillers upthread!

I wonder if this one was a demonstrator car?
Very very basic livery with no regional markings etc etc. just a single ‘cherry’ light too.

Your black & white car reminds me of something you’d see on Dirty Harry drifting around San Francisco!

I'm watching The Enforcer (1973) and we've just had scenes of some black and white police cars arriving to make a big arrest.  Several were this model of Chevy, and wore the white roof along with their four white doors.  So it looks like the change happened sooner than I thought it did.

Amber is my  mates daughter in-law in her early 20's  & like Jamie her fella a petrol head she passed her test last year & was determined even before that she was having a fiat Cinquecento .

She got a low owner one with 50k on the clock , we have loads of toys so she wanted one too, so I decided as there all very good friends ( like family to me) Jamie's been on about getting one for spares & making a trailer out of it like my MK3 one.

So I made the model of that too, using the pieces from the 2 that where cut up to make it to form a diorama of a car show stand with parts stash for sale.

I converted it to RHD too, the trailer has a floor & matching blue interior too.

If I could've found one in time it would have had Jamie's part restored MK1 fiesta  ( Inc primer patches etc ) too as now one does a MK2 escort est.

I've not done any for probably well over 10 years due to life in general.

Next will be a 3 sided (making the fourth)  caravan roughly ho scale again acquired on here to be displayed  with one of my cortinas  ( I like to break things up with a  caravan/trailer). Glad people like it.

Presented Amber with this today & she was over the moon ( call me a soppy old git , but so was I)  so discussion around the dinning table was  centred on how the 1:1 scale trailer  could be done lol.

Suggestions for a name for for too.

I'm stuck at cinqutrailer, or what's the Italian for either  250 or 1/2 & will the word trailer ( Italian for trailer) combine to make one model name?

Hope all my fellow shiters-in-miniature had a good Christmas and it's been nice to see what people got.

'Santa' (i.e me buying and Mrs-201 wrapping) brought me some diecast too. First, keeping to the theme of (sort-of) TV police cars,

Last year, I got the Vanguards based  Professionalmania Ray Doyle RS2000.

Lovely thing, and with the success of the Escort, it kind of followed that Tony would have the corresponding Capri made to go with it. Back in 2010, Corgi did a MK3 Capri 3.0S in Strato silver with the correct UOO 303T reg number from the series, but in ordinary Vanguards packaging and no mention of it being a car from The Professionals whatsoever. But with this version being 13 years old, Tony wanted an updated version.

IMG_20231226_000102.thumb.jpg.2922c9a920a5aa5dc3b9c5a5fa4c0866.jpg

Wasn't sure whether to order one as I already had the original Vanguards release, but decided to order one when I saw the pre production pics. Again, for licensing reasons, no actual mention of The Professionals, but it's pretty much obvious where the car is from!

IMG_20231226_000334.thumb.jpg.33cf7ef8468492200db7760050308505.jpg

but a pretty clever way of keeping the model secure in the packaging, the plastic "bubble" harking back to the early days of Vanguards and avoiding all the usual  retaining screws.

IMG_20231226_001058.thumb.jpg.fad5bd6262787675d40cfe15cefcca2b.jpg

Straight away, there seems to be a difference in the Strato silver paint on old and new, whether this is because the older one has been in my display unit for 13 years, I don't know...

IMG_20231226_001447.thumb.jpg.fc1a5628afa3e0a964687f7381be4a93.jpg

This pic shows the main differences, basically, added sunroof detail, interior detail and newly tooled wheels.

The new Ghia/S wheels really are a massive improvement on the older versions. Shows what Corgi can do when they make an effort...

IMG_20231226_001234.thumb.jpg.7e7ce72294648eb7643892072b1eee90.jpg

IMG_20231226_001400.thumb.jpg.ae9bd3f791b243c6faa5b597979c1296.jpg

There's also a blink-and-you'll-miss-it tampo print on the front wing for an aerial base...

IMG_20231226_001814.thumb.jpg.6a0146561b7d36a226266acfbbcf26d2.jpg

Wipers are better detailed, front end detail is pretty well up to Vanguards standard. The lack of a proper number plate plinth on the bumper, meaning the plate follows the contour of the bumper, is still an annoyance, but the plate is a bit bigger on this version, allowing a proper old plate font.

IMG_20231226_001711.thumb.jpg.c2174453dcbe7900611a884982b833e3.jpg

Again the rear view is better thanks to the improved wiper and seat detail.

IMG_20231226_001022.thumb.jpg.3f63c9702b528ba42fd229270be4bc59.jpg

The collectors card shows why Tony wanted this one producing, he actually briefly owned one of the two Capris that 'played' UOO in the series.

Lewis Collins would surely have approved!

Good to see the gifts received above. Here's mine:

IMG_9174.thumb.JPG.1951c416f3c37b3d0c6ca761aa19e31d.JPG

In reality more of a conveniently timed eBay purchase just before Christmas that got whisked away from me as soon as I got home, but still pleasing to be getting a kit wrapped-up like I would have done 40 years ago.

This one sold new in France, and somehow made its way here since. Even has a separate translation sheet inside for the instructions, and it's unusual for being the fixed-head version. Tamiya offered the targa version shortly afterwards, which was reissued relatively recently and also offered as a pace car with lightbar etc, so maybe they modified the tooling and the fixed-head is no more?

Moan time... I was in the model shop the other day.  Yes, Barrow still has an actual shop, stocked to the doors with diecasts, plastic kits and Hornby, and run by people who know their stuff so well that they have a "preserved" bus.  None of that is the moan.

I bought four tins of Humbrol and a paintbrush.  Now this is the moan!  HFM???????  I spent over a tenner!  On four tins of Humbrol and one small brush!  I suppose that, on the bright side, the paint will come in handy for more than the one Juniors Transit I wanted it for, and obviously the brush will be useful for years.  But fuck me, a tenner?

OK, moan over.  As you were...

Other festive diecast drop was this,

IMG_20231225_233012.thumb.jpg.7b262044fcc393277234035c679434cf.jpg

A long time ago, I got the Vanguards E30 325i M Tec 1, the spec I wanted it in, for what was a bargain price for one of those.

IMG_20201227_010057.thumb.jpg.4c80a7227e6de6c1b111db96d023ed9a.jpg

I do try and avoid getting duplicates of the same castings nowadays (which I fail pretty miserably at), but the Plane tree green 323i is sufficiently different I think, to justify it!

IMG_20231225_233722.thumb.jpg.07267fa595fd05fb1c442fb7237f07ce.jpg

Thanks to the way Corgi make Vanguards now, with separately made front and rear ends, and detachable sides for the moulds allowing for 2 or 4 door configurations, pre and facelift bumpers, bodykit and non bodykit options, it's possible to make both sporty and base versions of the same castings. I've been after this version for a while due to it's slightly batshit spec.

The real car was specced up from new with the nippy 2.3 six pot motor with autobox, leccy windows, sliding sunroof,  Blaupunkt stereo and rear spoiler. But also with cloth trim and bare steel wheels with a gloriously OAP colour scheme of Planetree green with light green interior.

Just for @Split_Pin, some front and rear detail, nice pre 2001 number plate font.

Those sodding filled-in tailpipes though....

Just love it for the fact that they tooled up some base spec steel wheels just for this version.

A nice model, of pretty much an Autoshite spec E30. This came from an auto parts supplier on eBay I use from time to time, who sell quite a few diecasts on the side (it was this company I got all the cheap Opel dealer models from during lockdown). Vanguards prices lately can often range from "ooh, bit salty that" to "How F****** Much M8?" but £18 posted for a NOS unopened boxed example isn't bad in this day and age.

Good to see all the "presents" that reader and writers have received.

As I am on a massive purge these days I have nothing to show.

That is quite lovely.

Mate of mine had a 323i on an A-plate, and he found it very difficult to find an insurer that recognised the four-door on their database. Apparently, at one point one asked him "is it modified?", to which he replied, "Well yes, evidently somebody has fitted two extra doors to it!"

Agreed it's a stupid price, on the other hand I still have Humbrol paints that are perfectly useable from when I was 13 or so!

I'm watching The Enforcer (1973) and we've just had scenes of some black and white police cars arriving to make a big arrest.  Several were this model of Chevy, and wore the white roof along with their four white doors.  So it looks like the change happened sooner than I thought it did.

The Enforcer was 1976.  The Bel Airs used were 1974

The earliest I can find of white roof as well as all doors for LAPD is 1958.  Roof bar fitted forward end as well

SFPD still using white on both doors only on this 1970 Ford Custom.  Roof bar at middle.

CHP white front doors and white roof from 1961 as on this Dodge Polara

It'll be getting a couple of dabs of fine black marker and like it!

What he went back on the deal cause it didn’t have the factory engine? 😂

I think it was more a case of the car was a complete shitter and definitely not "as described". He is a bit of an obsessive as well though, apparently the new wheels cost a fortune to tool up but he didn't want the old ones on this model.

The filled pipes is not the worst detail, they should point to the outer edge of the car.

I think I still have my boxed example of this. I think.

I'm not sure that you do 🤔20231226_130858.thumb.jpg.4f6bf45230d210a20dd0351001532dc3.jpg

Interesting, I've seen both straight and angled pipes, maybe replacement rear boxes don't bother with the angle?

I'll have to look at my friend's 320 later this week although that's a really late cabrio

Not sure now either - I had two of them, and I know I sold one on in 2018 or so (to you, I'll assume!) - think it was the one shown here left middle, with a dark green VW Beetle cabriolet on the back.

20180426_080706.jpg

But I had another one, this time part of a bigger playset with the red RAV-4 load, and alongside a Mercedes Sprinter towing wagon, Mercedes Vito police van, barriers 'n' cones, ludicrously oversize figures etc - but I'm now not sure if I let that one go too!

Will have to get under the bed again and have an explore...
