You could probably make an accurately scaled roof rack from some of those big paper clips?ย

And donโ€™t forget some kinked old wire to model the accurate use of an expensive (and imported) winch line, to tie a ladder down when larking about in the snow

Well spotted๐Ÿ˜‰

Take it that's the chase car from the Race Day series?

I probably wouldn't have twigged, because I'm not very observant sometimes... but Colin was bemoaning the fact that he'd put them up on Facebook earlier in the week and had zero interest from anyone in them.

Since he'd already sold most of the Premiums in previous weeks over Facebook before Friday even rolled around, I'm kinda suprised no-one else jumped in to nab this one first - but hey, it's all to the good here!

@Datsuncog

Could you please nab me the Dinky Bedford RL army drop side if itโ€™s a fiver and you go back?

Green military truck, far right bottom.

Sure thing - I should be back over there at 12, all being well.

Another candidate for the upcoming Southern Electric fleet? Excellent!

Well, that was easy!

Commer came apart really easy, nothing broke either. Glazing was already cracked and the chassis was broken too.

IMG_2688.thumb.jpeg.644f9a2d7677477ede3f652125183fd4.jpeg

As is customary for Spot-Onโ€™s. Made in Norn Irn.

IMG_2689.thumb.jpeg.e0f765077cf707a4edaa900d9b555055.jpeg

Conclusive proof this was originally the bank van money box version. I was surprised to find the rear door blanking panel someone made to replace the missing doors is actually made of cardboard! Came out easy.

IMG_2690.thumb.jpeg.bd630234e54b4b68053dd21af76ac2c3.jpeg

Bare shell. Coin slot was covered by thin plastic. Looked like an old butter tub lid!

IMG_2691.thumb.jpeg.0aed868cb7b28654b3c0c16bfb590436.jpeg

The other bits. Chassis should be repairable, the interior plastic section should help hold it together. Glazing is dead but it might help me make something to replace it.

IMG_2692.thumb.jpeg.2d9450ea7f7501ff80daacee00a819af.jpeg

Paint stripper on. This stuff is brilliant! Itโ€™s eating the old paint away no problem, it was actually blowing the blue later paint job off as it was hit the model.

So yes - in response to the Chase Car alert, I knocked back the last of my coffee and bustled back round to the Irish Tat stall.

Irritatingly, I could see the black Porsche, but couldn't get to it as a pair of annoying women were standing in the way buying armfuls of sparklers for 'the weans'.

Eventually they trundled off and, following a minor detour to the autobank up the street at the train station, victory was mine/ ours...

IMG_20231020_0940422.thumb.jpg.f26cf3273fc7fbebb5684a23d285e97e.jpg

No, I couldn't resist the Capri, as it turns out.

And, as a bonus, Colin had already bagged them up by the time I got back with the cash.

One for the bagshite thread, then...

He'd also set out some new arrivals:

IMG_20231020_0937592.thumb.jpg.32b36eb0a00c03db2c3a7f1de46cc153.jpg

(Hot Wheels shown for scale)

These were both Welly items, but seemingly tampo printed and repackaged. The Toyota was approx 1/35 scale, Mini maybe 1/24.

'Irish Decal Products Ltd.' Well, alright.

A final check of the stalls indicated that temptation in the form of the McBurney's Scania had been removed from me...

IMG_20231020_0939162.thumb.jpg.d24dbd3d64b5a670a7a6ccf6900cf247.jpg

US licence plates are also going out a tenner a throw, it seems.

Bobby Optimism only had a single diecast on the stall today, in amongst the retro handkerchiefs and bundles of old football stickers; this Dinky Atlantean:

If previous price structures are anything to go by, this may* be a smidge pricey for what it is...

IMG_20231020_0939322.thumb.jpg.4ee8c9052fd2e3b557f8674ffc7d107b.jpg

But since Bobby wasn't behind the stall, maybe I'll never know...

A final check of the Charity Stall revealed nothing new, and Alan's stomping ground remained vacant this week.

So, there wasn't much more to do than head back out into the (less stormy) morning, where the car was liberally sprinkled with leaves...

And head into work, so I can be motivated* at every turn.

^ Sundry pics of dead/dying children and fatal road accidentsย really brighten the walls. you'll agree. Can't think why more offices don't do this.

I imagine these pictures - all stills from 'hard-hitting' road safety campaign ads in the early 2000s - were intended to remind staff of the importance of their work, but since the Department which made them doesn't exist anymore, and they've been up in the building for decades now, they've kinda lost their shock value and now just fit squarely into 'profoundly depressing'.

IMG_20231020_0952412.thumb.jpg.701c231ee6357fb2cfeb0070b42bd2da.jpg

Here's where we are at the midpoint, kids:

IMG_20231020_1051472.thumb.jpg.2ea1a1bc1c767173c1020a527fd88d2c.jpg

Franklin Mint Rambler is for @Split_Pin; gold Corgi Mustang is for @andrew e.

Black Hot Wheels Porsche is for @bunglebus, and also the blue Corgi E-Type.

Which leaves the HW Capri still available for a tenner, if anyone's keen!

ย

And now... back out into the storm again...

Thanks for lifting the Rambler for me Tim. It's not a car I was previously aware of but I always try to snap up US 4 door sedans when I see them!

So I think it could be a Rambler Ambassador according to some Google Fu:

A very interesting car.

Also, I have never owned a Franklin Mint model. I remember coveting them in the many adverts which appeared in my mum's Reader'sย  Digest

That Mini is an Innocenti. The side repeaters and quarter lights are the clues.

I though it might be a rehash of this 1/25ish one, but I do not think it is

Few more acquisitions.

Matchbox. ย  ย ย
Merc is really nice, this is probably my favourite colour so far. ย ย
Minor. Hmm, fantastic looking casting but the colour choice is dreadful! Iโ€™ll be repainting this one into a period shade.

Hot Wheels. ย ย
Mazda. Donโ€™t know why I just liked it! ย  ย ย
Chevy. I donโ€™t like hot rods much, but this looks really nice so another one to strip and paint in a more โ€˜classicโ€™ shade, maybe find some better rimz!

The green car transport looks pretty interesting, what sort of period was that released in originally? I wonder if it was influenced by the wonderful bit of autoshite that was the Mercedes Renntransporter, the 106mph "high speed transporter" based on a Pontonย ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I'm far from an expert on anything Matchbox, but I believe it could be part of the set with Mustang II as per my picture so I assume mid 1970s. I'm sure someone will be able to give us the exact dates produced. I see what you mean about the Mercedes!
