The front shows it was modelled on the 1994 facelift Discovery 1, whereas the Britains looks to be of the pre-facelift original

Comedy wheels aside, it seems a reasonable effort for the very few Pounds asked for it

Well done Lesney design engineers.

Agreed, there are two here, without the broken/missing parts that Dinky and Corgi achieved

So as as an appreciation:

As well as all the market funsies, Friday also brought another episode of tat-by-post:

IMG_20230924_0938272.thumb.jpg.7dad414e92f454f8bfef0830e8d21165.jpg

That's right, it's the latest drop from Corgi Model Club - the #318 Lotus Elan S2.

IMG_20230924_0938392.thumb.jpg.c9f48d3803f6d7b104f13d5a07f97189.jpg

It's one I've never owned before as an original, so this is a voyage of discovery for me.

I mean, I've found a few on the stall over the years but they've generally been pretty trashed, so I've always left them.

And I can see why - it's quite a fragile little thing.

IMG_20230924_0938582.thumb.jpg.c413547019715e658e9df49ffe2328c1.jpg

In-period Esso decal applied onto the bootlid is nicely done; I previously thought this detracted from the model a little and seemed a bit unnecessary, but I can now see why the Corgi design team thought it might be a fun little extra to incorporate, back in the day.

I understand window stickers with the same slogan and elasticated furry tiger tails that fitted around the fuel cap were in vogue for a while, so it's kinda nice to have it live on.

IMG_20230924_0939152.thumb.jpg.b394b5c636745e156327f27f3c0aaac7.jpg

Base detailing is fairly good, with the lettering shunted around to allow the innovative chassis and suspension layout to be neatly rendered.

Later versions of the S2 featured a fully detachable body and chassis - and I'd really like to see one of those up close.

IMG_20230924_0940112.thumb.jpg.6be14c1f91951da5c2beaa2675ff363b.jpg

Bonus 'gimmick' for this model was door windows that go up and down.

IMG_20230924_0940002.thumb.jpg.a7899654f35bdbd875e5a21f16050729.jpg

These work really well, and are pretty smooth - some Dinkys had a similar feature, but they always seem very worn and resist staying in the upright position.

I'm sure they didn't last more than five minutes in the hands of rambunctious young owners, though.

IMG_20230924_0939332.thumb.jpg.f2775263c7b43843b67609b04e4a3245.jpg

Interior detail is surprisingly good, with flip-up seats (for some reason) and a separately painted dash.

IMG_20230924_0943572.thumb.jpg.531680d950555b89cab7e45844137cae.jpg

Plus - detailed, chrome effect engine!

IMG_20230924_0944262.thumb.jpg.beea231971f95b658843fcb8cda898ca.jpg

And a short driver who has some bother reaching in.

IMG_20230924_0944582.thumb.jpg.1f742af487d12dc0f1679bca2e4949c0.jpg

And collector info!

IMG_20230924_0945112.thumb.jpg.5a56dd74c4285c5ec3c4cf1e87b88c7a.jpg

A strong release - I really like this one.

A strong release - I really like this one.

@eddyramrod Look away now!

That is lovely, I really want one now even though I already have the really nice one I got in the 155V6box. I suppose I'd prefer if it was in white as I think that's the only one I don't have. Yes I know MRVC has a picture of a green FHC with yellow roof and stripes, but I don't think they ever really existed.  I liked the tip up seats as a kid even though my first one was an orange and white FHC where they are really pretty pointless. So here's an update on mine...

IMG_7670.thumb.JPG.51b85a140557f94988cedf91f24b955b.JPG

I'm in the middle of repainting the first one I owned, originally orange, then repainted maroon and the roof modified to be like a soft top by the young me and as depicted in the homemade box cover to my GS. After that I somehow broke thefront off at the wheel arches, glued it together and painted it Humbrol orange. Thats how it was when I recently stripped it which melted the glue and discoverd the break! Now as you can see it's nearly done in Kermit green.

I'm kind of renovating the GS and have all the bits I need apart from a load of Mini size tyres which I forgot on my last Steve Flowers order oh and the lid of the box obv. I may try to print one out although I quite like the one I made!

Fairly recently I bought the orange and white one to replicate my first Corgi Elan and it's great. Then I got the green & yellow ones intending to replace the slightly damged ones in the GS, but decided to keep the original cars in it after all.

Then I got the metallic blue one from the 155V6box, the first I've had without the detachable chassis  and replaced the broken screen. I've been trying to prise out the white seat to replace it with the supplied black one without taking the model apart.

Lastly I got the blue and white FHC as I'd never seen one and why not?

Posted

Somebody please stop me if you're getting bored with my old Corgi ramblings!

So boot sale today in which a first happened in that I came back with more than Mrs Concern!

IMG_7669.thumb.JPG.8ae19ef34bb314b5ddd6c61ce2daa675.JPG

Mrs Concern got a Corgi Juniors caravan, she has about five already, but all blue and white so this is very different. Also a  Matchbox Ovlov to tow it (has both tailgate and tow hitch) and Pride of Calais (already has Pride of Dover).

IMG_7671.thumb.JPG.978f3b15b61c1aadce92599a77aa633e.JPG

I got the Corgi Golden Hawk, yes I know I slated it the other day for being gopping and with horrible vacuum platingand I still stand by that, but I couldn't leave it for £2. There was another one as well, but not as nice so did leave that!

Dodge is one I'd always quite like the look of from the catalogue as a kid, but never seen a complete example IRL until now. I'm guessing the tail gate should be straight? I'll warm it up & expect it will go back pretty easily.

Ferrari I never had a kid, but wanted. I do have a very rough one from @flat4alfa that's stripped and ready for paint, but again at £2 I had to have this as well.

The AA Transit spec lift I'm not sure why I got as I have a Mint in box one and a mint RAC one too. I spose for 50p it would have been rude not to!

IMG_7672.thumb.JPG.3a9959eac497c94a48507e708cd34c54.JPG

After all the talk of Matchbox Superkings Sierras recently, I had to have this (also £2) The passenger seat back is missing presumably after being stolen/recovered. It is very nice and now I want really good black Texaco one.

IMG_7673.thumb.JPG.113ff59e58d4b4110211715aefdaa38a.JPG

Lastly the Matchbox 480ES (made in France, according to the seller, not sure if he meant Matchbox or Volvo) to go with my C30 collection.

IMG_7674.thumb.JPG.0e88ec0b891cba002e30758807c51689.JPG

IMG_7675.thumb.JPG.30f92a20b4d13a460be1457c2799d9fa.JPG

So not too bad for the last boot sale at that location this year.

Oh I should say I'm going to do my last sale until more shite accumulates at about 8 o clock

Another weekend trawl, and no new Hot Wheels to be found.

In B&M though, there were some different Matchbox to the usual ones that have been warming the pegs since the start of the year. Probably been seen by everyone else on here but trust me, in an area as shit as ours for diecast lately, it was an achievement! Not sure what mix these are from, but no Kadett or Volvo there.

I'd really like to find that rally 911 to add to my collection of the same name.  It reminds me of one Christmas when I was given a Tandy 4x4 radio control truck. I went round to my best friends house with it to discover he had been given a Tamiya Porsche 959. His dad had obviously been building it leading up to Christmas. It totally put my shitty Tandy to shame (which lasted a matter of months if I recall before it shat its brains). So to rekindle that fantastic* memory, I want one of those MB rally Porsches.

I've seen loads, I can pick some up if needed. Think there were some in my BuM the other day?

They had a few of the 70th anniversary cars there. I can grab one too if needed?

I didn't think I was going to find much in Entertainer as their delivery was days ago, so I went to Smyths first. I was feeling a bit gutted looking at pegs full of Premiums but no Capri - so when I spotted this I thought I'd cheer myself up!

This kind of set is one of the reasons I just find modern HotWheels to be .....

Why are they mixing cars from different eras, and what the **** is that van doing in the set? As for the graphics.

I bought a strange Corgi Sting Ray that looks like the correct paint for a Whizzwheels version, but has the old base and wire wheels. Not sure if it's a repaint or actually swapped the base on a grey Whizzwheels one.

I really like the Auto Pilen Volvo/Daf I picked up the other day and as a look on ebay has shown them to be rarish/expensive I'd like to fix up the one I have despite the missing steering wheel, dash, front bumper & both A pillars plus broken screen.

So any ideas how this comes apart?

Did you ever work out how to get this apart? I was just looking at this one and wondering if it's got anough bits on to combine with yours and make one nice one...? Possibly a bit pricey for a donor though?

I did get it apart, as people suggested the rear bumper pulled off, it was on very firmly and the two small pins broke off.

Thanks for pointing this out I'll have a think about if it's worth it or not.

The second Super Kings transporter was delivered today and it's much better than the first one despite the wrong tractor unit.

How about a five Corgi load?

Now when I say "better" I mean "bigger" not just Corgi Minis on it either

The other one does take five Minis, just not Corgis

I need another Hot Wheels Mini now!

Talking of Super Kiings, I tickled the Sierra in with some white Humbrol and it looks almost good now, even if it needs another coat

And I really like the Quattro too!

Well, you could buy this at the same time and save on postage - the best Pilen model and another rare find, could be a rewarding resto(-mod). And the base unscrews...

Hmm interesting & I've just noticed I've a few from him as he lives on the route to my mother's house so I save on postage anyway!

You'd better tell me which so I did against you haha!

I’ve bought off him before but he is a bit of a Wally when it comes to buying a few items and getting him to understand they could go into the same parcel, and mistaken postage labels can actually be voided and refunded

Then attempts to advise and assist are met with a paragraph of excuses

The first time I bought from him he told me he was selling off his childhood collection which was clearly not true, that was strange. I've bought a couple more times and each time he's been happy to wait while my bids on several different items ending at different times ran their course and also has waited for me find a suitable time to pick them up in person. Pretty sure I've won every model from him at starting bid too.

Mrs_Jon has just come back from a holiday to California, which gave me ample time to replace our flood damaged kitchen floor (chipboard makes terrible flooring - who'd have thought?!) and demolish the kitchen, ready for a new one. I also had chance to go to my favourite model shop in Auckland when I dropped her at the airport - but that's for another post...

Today's subject was the result of an auction ending whilst I was carefully dismantling our pantry, to save the solid wood doors and framing for some as yet to be determined use. I like to think my nonchalant attitude to placing a bid in the dying couple of minutes and being so engrossed in another activity that I didn't care if I lost, meant that I ultimately ended up winning, instead. Or something.

Anyway, a little box arrived, forthwith:

It being a blue oval product, there was some tax involved but not at the average going rate, from what I can fathom. Prior to seeing this listing, I wasn't aware of this casting!

Ooh!

Aah!

A Gama 1/43 Ford Consul coupe, in lovely nick. This era of subject and casting are RIGHT up my alley.

It being a continental model, there's no vinyl roof (or gopping Ghia grille), so it looks a bit more Morris Marina than Granada coupe. I can live with that.

Blue headlamps are a touch alternative but they break up the front end a bit, admittedly.

'Comically oversized yet correct font' rear badges are present. Indeed, it's overall quite a good stab at the rear end, which is one of the best bits of the Mk1 Granada/Consul.

Side on, it works well and you can see that they were attempting some realism with the wheels. In 3/4 profile, theyre a bit too convex to look accurate, and the bits of flak left on some of the trims do no favours - but this is a 70's car modelled in the 70's, so that's period quality control, for better or worse.

This is also what counts as a scale interior at the time - but it adds to the charm, from my perspective.

Not sure if there's a clipped on bit of hose or something missing from this (4 cyl?) engine but with renditions this phoned in, I'll not lose any sleep over it.

Of course, I had to see how it stacked up to my other period large German Fords:

Front ends favour quite well, lined up.

Safe to say that Gama put a lot more effort in to an accurate side profile, though. The scale obviously helps but then so does the price point, I'd imagine.

Siku lost all interest in accurately portraying the wagon rear end, or pethaps mistook it for a Pinto wagon.

That said, they did furnish the load space with a box containing 6 achingly small road cones, so bonus creativity points there.

Anyway, very happy to have this in the fold.

Although it seems Gama cast a Consul saloon, which looks arguably tastier....
