That is still one that I’ve never found. It, and the Austin A55 and Ford Corsair are ones I’m on the lookout for.

Got both those but no '59 Ford Wagon

Do have a couple of the' 64 Ford Fairlane though. Another one desperately needing the thin Superfast-wheel conversion, or better still the current wheels cutting back to a sensible width and the outer rim blacked-out or done in white maybe

Then painting to join the rest of your museum collection

The good thing is though most of these are small scale, which means they’re easier to store/display in larger quantities!!

Another one I’m keen to find that’s a recent release is the 64 Buick Riviera. Not seen it yet though.

Okay then...

My black and wizened little heart gave a bit of a leap when, after battling through the fairweather lunchtime hoardes, I discerned some assorted crap atop the Stall of Dreams....

1035157259_IMG_20230811_1231572.thumb.jpg.d817bacd7819a64bbc954177513c34a6.jpg

But sadly it wasn't the belated return of the Tat Stall we know and love - just the simple fact that nature abhors a vacuum, and in Market Blokey's absence, his customary tables had been subsumed under a strange osmosis of crap from the other nearby stalls.

It do be like that sometimes.

So a hop, skip and a jump across the hall to Alan's Emporium and...

483364670_IMG_20230811_1229292.thumb.jpg.d39776d7f8e793d43beceb376aaa36ad.jpg

Ah. He's had a good morning.

Caprice was there (and secured swiftly), but the Pacer had already been airlifted to safety.

Bugger.

Meanwhile, the eponymous proprietor had carefully set out all the treasures* from earlier:

149741554_IMG_20230811_1231092.thumb.jpg.29f503f4bd86bfb909ca9523b885dfea.jpg

Sorry, how much?!

1402700150_IMG_20230811_1231122.thumb.jpg.1389a8533b8512cd94f76323e8402d30.jpg

Blimey.

Point of note - anyone finding themselves in possession of a huge box of worthless Days Gone with no takers - go and have a word with Alan, he'll see you right.

I emerged again, blinking, having spent a quid on the playworn recent-ish Caprice and an older, Macau-made Firebird in a similar shape - possibly an ex-Frosties promo, albeit with the orange Tony the Tiger graphics removed.

But - we weren't done for the day.

No indeedy.

Onwards!

Criss-crossing town as best I could (hey, unicycles aren't easy), the first stop was Cash Converters, as they sometimes have some interesting diecast items - however, not today.

So next up was The World's Smallest B&M which - shock! - was now stocking Matchbox, for the very first time.

1697860481_IMG_20230811_1258552.thumb.jpg.c2c991f4a21e0690695590c84f9c9fe5.jpg

But it's the same case selection that's been in circulation since earlier in the year, more's the pity.

Still, plenty of Hot Wheels to get excited about:

1149358599_IMG_20230811_1259302.thumb.jpg.19bd6bce32156f1bf8b97e0cf198b8ff.jpg

A strange mix of 2022 and 2023 releases; I pulled a few down which seemed to have some potential shiter interest...

877894696_IMG_20230811_1258302.thumb.jpg.46ed6ed3f00d77610689565c0c157e73.jpg

And, it was just at this point, with me kneeling on the floor surrounded by assorted toy cars, that a rambunctious two-year-old and his mildly harassed-looking mother rounded the corner and made a bee-line for the Mattel, while I tried (and failed) to shove everything back on the pegs quickly and haul myself vaguely upright...

"Mummy, what's that man doing?" His voice was hushed, slightly confused.

"I don't know, love..."

No, I can appreciate that it's probably not all that clear what the hell I was up to, so I removed myself from the scene swiftly before security could become interested.

It wasn't a very long journey over to The Entertainer, as I decided that I may as well try for a full sweep of retailers...

OMG NEW CASE MATCHBOX!

1476717452_IMG_20230811_1309212.thumb.jpg.01dfceb26c4e9704349d92a90df3b1c9.jpg

OMG HFM?!

993070942_IMG_20230811_1309582.thumb.jpg.ab6ea6ef8c34eef0d2bd709ce2950b97.jpg

Right, well I was glad I already had one of these gorgeous Kadett coupes via @bunglebus Tat Supplies, as these were no longer 'buy two get one free'.

Good to see some more premiums on offer, though:

694815485_IMG_20230811_1309432.thumb.jpg.d11d78f094fe6224e84f1c8c369f4ccc.jpg

Even if these particular models didn't really appeal, and they were also a heart-stopping £9.

Because I'm weird, I tidied up the Hot Wheels pegs a little before leaving. It seems someone stocking out had confused the F&F premium range with the semi-premiums, and we can't be having that.

A quick scoot down the escalator brought me to the revamped Poundland, but wider aisles and a battery of shoplifter-unfriendly one-way barriers didn't equate to any more diecast. Just a few fantasy Hot Wheels jobbers left on the pegs there.

While leaving Castle Court, I couldn't not put my head round the door of Poundstretcher- but although they've rejigged their toy aisle (to make way for Hallowe'en guff, distressingly) all they had to offer were the dregs of the Matchbox Working Rigs series, still at only £3 - but only multiples of that orange GMC Attenuator Truck remaining.

So once again I left empty handed... and there could only be one destination now...

Yup - the Smithfield model shop, and specifically its odd little pile of assorted loose tat, which is about the closest I was going to get to a true Tat box today.

Prices here range from 50p to OMFG.

165524517_IMG_20230811_1330062.thumb.jpg.8faac8824c36a3e9aeaadb8dc6c5c64c.jpg

Told ya.

Yeah, £30 on this chipped and otherwise unexciting Super Kings Scammell. I mean, it's okay, but - really?

But that seems to be the store's overall pricing policy - random and baffling, but occasionally reasonable.

653389862_IMG_20230811_1332312.thumb.jpg.2ad46e643340f26d2874130c65bc092e.jpg

Mostly these smaller loose items are priced at a quid or two, sometimes more, sometimes less.

534587318_IMG_20230811_1332372.thumb.jpg.0b9a438ded8240de4ec9226f53c76232.jpg

241942583_IMG_20230811_1333012.thumb.jpg.9b91cff6721db9626530e885b5ac0cd7.jpg

But blimey, there's a lot of them.

Still - some consolatory purchases were indeed made.

And there was just time for me to grab something to serve as lunch as I pedalled furiously back across town...

1013517181_IMG_20230811_1407192.thumb.jpg.471140f77183a0d54a589a1e63bed08e.jpg

So, let's cut to the chase!

Posted

Despite my utter shame, I did exit B&M with an Escort - though thankfully not one of the police variety.

1646634216_IMG_20230811_1448312.thumb.jpg.c675336be5f29b44ea59b5dfb173a9f3.jpg

Available for the £1.69 paid, if anyone's still needing one.

EDIT: ***SOLD!!***

And then I snagged this brace of fairly clean Corgi Porsche 917s from the Model Shop at a pound a pop:

163672328_IMG_20230811_1448482.thumb.jpg.dd8aaade67b82ce4403a3c1d8f69603f.jpg

Different rear treatment?

97162007_IMG_20230811_1450112.thumb.jpg.fa72545833abfe9a8ca6f18c26c84844.jpg

That's cos the silver one's a Growler.

1891143764_IMG_20230811_1450252.thumb.jpg.7ff0b814de5eea2dcd5b3179f67933e6.jpg

No giggling, please.

But they're quite different underneath -  and both available at the price paid.

And then - fortune returned, in the form of another AMC Pacer:

369701800_IMG_20230811_1458032.thumb.jpg.73d13e84e7f442cf1373d66061c2cbc5.jpg

A slightly different shade of blue, it's true, but still at the low, low price of 50p.

823253734_IMG_20230811_1458492.thumb.jpg.391832c3507bc0812f85624b75d2419e.jpg

I'll pop that in with your others, if you still fancy one @NorfolkNWeigh!

The modern Matchbox Mazda SUV thingy is for my kiddy box, and definitely not just for me to piss around with when I think no-one's looking.

And so - this is how we finished up! Not maybe the ultimate in Tat Fridays, but hey - it coulda been worse?

1076912861_IMG_20230811_1501212.thumb.jpg.f6cee60d8ead80e4a7fdc78d5cb20b29.jpg

Here's hoping for better pickings next week.

Happy Friday, kids.

Nice write-up, my brother had a Frosties Pontiac, which bothers me slightly as I thought we were a Cornflakes/rice krispies family (with a mixture of full fat  semi skimmed delivered in glass bottles by the milkman).

Thanks , you really do go above and beyond  when it comes to hunting down tiny Tat.

Could I settle up for my goodies to date please ? No rush and don’t tell me what’s in there, my memory is atrocious and I enjoy the surprise!

Anyway more bits keep turning up that I forgot I bid on.

Two near identical lots of Siku Porsches for example

Along with a very camp camper from Majorette

I remember at around aged 5, we were flying to Germany with Lufthansa and the Stewardess gave my Brother and I one of those blue Siku 928s as a gift. It was the envy of my school mates as Siku weren't really available in the UK.

Also got to go and sit in the cockpit! Those were the days!

Ey up. Been a while since I've had anything to contribute to this thread due to general cost-of-living shit which means I'm not feeling quite so spendthrift when it comes to stupid toy cars. With that in mind, and fully aware that I possess the collecting gene which means I'm incapable of just owning one of anything, let me introduce you to...

20230811_182510.thumb.jpg.73787242607102c84a4a15a6252964eb.jpg

The Lion Toys Daf 600!

It wasn't that long ago in the grand scheme of things that I first discovered these Lion Toys models, and I've been vaguely interested in the idea of them ever since, but since I started actively buying diecast in the last two or three years I have managed to resist their charms. Until now. Actually, I was inspired when I discovered a totally unknown miniature, Matchbox-sized version made by 'Best Box' (library pic)

pdf_8a252d10-38ca-012c-a5b9-0050569439b1

Highly appealing for curiosity value, and the fact it could easily pass for a c1961 Lesney toy, I missed out on one of these hidden in a job-lot of Lesneys recently and clearly haven't quite gotten over it. My periodic search for Lion Toys showed a surprising number available on ebay at the moment, and this one was cheap enough to tempt me.

20230811_182521.thumb.jpg.4b77bfbad254b6f7cd266732df8bb695.jpg

It helps that this is the first time I've seen one of these slightly crude early examples - none of them are common, but those you do see tend to be the late-60s/early-70s models. Note mismatched tyres - I think the white ones are original and the blacks are replacements.

20230811_182533.thumb.jpg.4121b2e78f9829def2236a0bb4db0720.jpg

It's just a bonny little thing, isn't it? Must have been a big hit with Dutch kids at a time when these were absolutely ubiquitous. It even has a nice cast-in CVT detail on the base

20230811_182552.thumb.jpg.637d63b072ef1c66a37cece3f1a4b2c5.jpg

Now, I'm not saying I'm going to have start collecting 1:43 Daf toys, but I'm not not saying that either. Particularly when this ends on ebay in a couple of days...

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.b0af02fa8f721f755642a819a999dbc8.jpg

It'll be hard to resist that for a 'first and last' comparison, AND it's a Pilen so actually a valid thing for me to buy. And so, a slippery slope is ventured onto.

That takes me straight back to the mid 80s playing Super Stox Scalextric. All that survived was one knackered bonnet from the Stick Shifter I think. I managed to find replacements for both cars on ebay a couple of years back ready for when our lad is old enough...

Yeah, the last time I was in The Entertainer the Matchbox mainlines were shown as 3 for 2 - and indeed the basic Hot Wheels still were marked as such today - but the signage was now removed on the Matchbox display.

Could be a staff error?

I can’t remember if I posted this to the thread previously, but I definitely made a mental note to.

Whilst out in Slovakia, my father in law bought this for our son:

I was possibly more excited about it than my son was 🤣 for a cheap toy aimed at kids I thought it was quite a nice reproduction of the real thing.

We went to a toy shop there later in the trip, and they had a whole wall of trucks, tractors and farming implements. It transpires that they make a bigger version of the Tatra truck we have, and that the bucket on that one can hold 100 kilos 😳 I could have spent a lot of money!
