Well, good news (hopefully) for @TheOtherStu - there were two VW T1s on the stall when I arrived, one of the 'Peace & Love' vans and one of the 'Celebration' versions.

As far as my semi-detached recall goes, it was this version which was desired, and not the other one.

I nabbed it as soon as I saw it, which was just as well as the other one was soon gone - and the Jubilee Mini too.

These were part of the 'up-top' £10 models, but still - given that Corgi still sells these new on their website, not a bad price compared to the original price paid.

Some brisk negotiations saw the Scammell Scarab and Moko-era Lesneys secured for the £10 asking price, for @flat4alfa:

1820289206_IMG_20230728_1057142.thumb.jpg.4bcd96ee314b5551cd89a2cc3f78ceb6.jpg

Someone's been monkeying around with silver and matt black paint to detail the Lesneys, but the body paint seems to be all original.

Also on the Lesney trail, I snagged this Bedford 7.5 Ton Tipper for myself.

1148182318_IMG_20230728_1057582.thumb.jpg.71250aade91371ad93cdb6139c21e686.jpg

I've had an eye out for one of these for a while, and this one's complete with not too much chipping.

And what's that behind it?

1174688058_IMG_20230728_1057332.thumb.jpg.3ac820be58621603f73936a24400dd43.jpg

I've had an eye on this very late issue Ford 103E Popular for a while now - it's been bobbing along at a tenner for a few weeks which seemed a smidge too much, given that I still have my original mid-90s version in Sage Green.

But it seems that when the modern Corgi VWs and Minis all sold through earlier, Market Blokey just decided to dump them on the £5 clearance table.

So, I pounced.

Stupid non-number plates aside, this is perhaps slightly better detailed than my green version. The wheels are much better; the grille - maybe less so.

Plus dust.

I'll have a better look at this later on.

And lastly... my impulse control isn't good. You all know that.

Some spirited haggling and judicious use of sadface at the damage to the doors and front wheel saw this drop from £20 to £13.

556945437_IMG_20230728_1058522.thumb.jpg.4d7c3e5c3e3a6f8416fc1d8bed67e926.jpg

A fragile doorframe hasn't survived, just like the mirrors - or the steering wheel

As well as a non-standard rear tyre, this wheel hub's seen some bad times - but even so, this is a lovely big model. It should display alright, I think

Appreciate it's not very cheap, and I'm more than happy to hold onto this myself if no-one wants it - but I'll give @Split_Pin first shout, and then open it out to the floor.

And so - it's getting near 12, and I'm getting antsy...

There could still be more to come...

Perfect, as always thank you.
Let me know the total for this week and last week and postage and I'll send over.

Meccano France also produced a slot car model of the Matra-Simca 670.  The paint flakes-off readily.

342712108.jpg.bd157211950accc83be794402b3f6dce.jpg

It also came in this set with another France-only model, the Alfa 33 TT.

I managed to obtain the pair from a French seller on 'bay.fr for something like a fiver each.  Pretty crude detail as just one piece body with the gubbins attached under, but had to have for completeness, all the same!

Photos off the web, as all that lot is in boxes in the loft these days

It might be - usually Marx has a sort of 'X' logo cast in somewhere, but there's a lot of thick brown paint on the underside... will have a closer look when I'm back over!

Quote

Anyway if only a fiver and you’re going back could you pick up the Corgi DB4 and the Lesney Wolseley 1500 assuming nobody else has asked?

Can certainly have a look for the red Corgi; though I think Mr. Alfa's claimed the Wolseley already, sorry!

If the two Corgi Corvettes (a red one and silver) are cheap and you see them again I'd be interested please

Probably too late now, but if that Corgi / Sunbeam Nottingham Metrobus is still around for a fiver, I'd be delighted to home it (inevitably).

Good point, did also try to match with Louis Marx, but couldn't find a match.  Marx focus pre-war was with tin-plate, not diecast so much.

Post-war Marx (also sub-brand Toby Toys) yes very similar, but had model number and 'Made in England' in the casting

It was all a bit of a wildcard - quite a jumble of Corgi, Dinky and Lesney from multiple eras and having been subjected to varying degrees of fuckery.

It seems that about £5 is the going rate for these.

I wasn't sure if this one was a Dinky or not - and neither was The Nemesis.

No baseplate, no maker's name.

But a bit borked, despite its relatively recent paint job.

I think that is an original Dinky Series 39 that has lost its tin base.

Looks like you are right!

Didn't spot the axles aren't actually mounted on the base!  Feel silly now.

Went off to find the Lagonda I had to check that as hadn't realised.  Can't find it though, but online photos show mounting was different again

Right then - time for round two at the last Friday market of July...

852601562_IMG_20230728_1217582.thumb.jpg.9dcc5bf529599cdeeb9881799fdf45c9.jpg

And auspices were generally good, with most of the requested items still present on the stall.

683765763_IMG_20230728_1219222.thumb.jpg.bfa8dd024f377ef60abca15559b54960.jpg

Sadly for @RoadworkUK, that Corgi Sunbeam Metrobus had suddenly gone, after knocking around for a few weeks - typical!

The Detail Cars XJS was also away, so it was lucky no-one had their heart set on its slightly-malformed lines.

It's stacking up to be a week that'll go down in legend on TravelIingIronShite.com, mind you.

375911972_IMG_20230728_1222162.thumb.jpg.f58c7b8bcde5bc3daf545fea41f7acc7.jpg

Phoar. Now there's some hot steamy action just waiting to happen.

Acquisitions made, I puttered about the rest of the stalls a little bit longer.

A wander past the Irish Tat Stall put to bed any idle wondering about where the rest of those VW buses and Minis went:

1470436807_IMG_20230728_1224122.thumb.jpg.65a1e5a9e7e757048574f7bd618be04d.jpg

Aha.

And presto - £10 into £20. That's business, kids.

859823530_IMG_20230728_1224352.thumb.jpg.63376e182465652ff7c34243eb177aa5.jpg

Colin on the stall had been telling me earlier that the monthly processing fees for his credit/ debit card reader doohickey have now hit nearly £80 - more than a day's takings, sometimes.

So I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. I certainly don't begrudge him. I'm just pleased I got in to grab one at the cheap rate before he did!

On passing through the melée over by the bakery stall, I was buttonholed by Charity Blokey, who was heading in the opposite direction.

It seems I'm now that recognisable amongst the stallholders.

"Here, were you not around this morning?"

He sounded almost scandalised.

"Yes I was - why, was there some diecast over on your stall?"

"Yes. Well no. There was tinplate stuff, but yer man - ooh, what's his name..."

"[Nemesis]"

"Yes! He bought them all."

I don't doubt it.

A scoot past Alan's Emporium revealed some new stuff, surprisingly:

45246747_IMG_20230728_1225452.thumb.jpg.d37d9f4e2a5807501d5b970cd11b8c64.jpg

But mostly they were just super-crappy far-eastern rubbish, plus some toybox-worn recent Hot Wheels and some older, but slightly rough, Matchbox.

622551490_IMG_20230728_0839222.thumb.jpg.7bbd429934a1d9e42b6ec42d94943f18.jpg

I think this one wins the prize for 'least amount of metal in a purportedly diecast vehicle':

346792773_IMG_20230728_0840052.thumb.jpg.5eeae24733113209945466f64d15f0ad.jpg

I wouldn't much fancy standing on it barefoot.

Yeah... these aren't "so bad they're good" like the Honda Prelude - these are "so bad they've gone straight past good, and back to bad again".

653508117_IMG_20230728_0838582.thumb.jpg.30e141fa3977b99415e216e78b61a80d.jpg

This one was at least vaguely recognisable as an A-Class Mercedes:

1609307091_IMG_20230728_0840372.thumb.jpg.95d2551ddcfa20fc51d1befbc4d0a0d0.jpg

BASE BALL YO

While this one seemed to have been designed by a Cambodian propaganda team:

270872115_IMG_20230728_0840162.thumb.jpg.ef66a74b32dc81068d1aadcacf946daa.jpg

Hmm.

Ah, Alan. Never change.

Same can be said for the rest of the market, really.

And now - on to the final furlong!

So it's good fortune all round for most of our requestors today:

Then there's the Packard of Some Confusion:

Yes, I think it's fair to say this is a Dinky that's lost its baseplate, after all - in a manner that wouldn't have been possible for many toys in the range, but it's happened to this one.

1464540072_IMG_20230728_1405252.thumb.jpg.2b191473f7e94069358faa295a6f5763.jpg

Ribs running down from the b-pillars seem intended to hold a base in its place.

BUT I managed to score this one for £3, so while maybe not a bargain, it's hopefully not a source of immiseration for its new owner?

I have a Lesney one and last year I discovered that I hadn't sold my Efsi one either.

Mercedes-Benz LP-series back in fashion, shocker!  Sold-on / gave away all the Lesney some time ago.  Did have a EFSI fuel tanker recently, bought for 99p in job lot and it sold itself for £3.50.  Not much but it helped fund the wife's gin allowance that week.

It kinda feels a little like the big ensemble song that closes a pantomime when it gets to this part, doesn't it?

Worth the price of admission, I'm sure you'll agree! A nice mix of older stuff and newer stuff; some old favourites and some rarities I've never even seen before. And soon, they'll be heading off to start another new chapter in their existence...

Might crack out the Fairy Liquid later, while I update The Spreadsheet - as some of these are pretty manky.

Well - as ever, thank you for us your company on another day of tatsploration!

And, as ever, Happy Friday, kids.

would have given it a bit of a scrub as part of Friday Night Tat Bathtime, but I'll not steal your gusto...

I wouldn't want to take that pleasure away from you

Feel free to scrub!  Will the event be streamed live?

Well there was no tat for me this Friday but a nip to Aldi and a rummage though the quite large amount of Hotwheels resulted in this. 20230728_165931.thumb.jpg.fd013bde236e79a04d387db6d6117251.jpg

No GTV or Sierra action though.

A pair of Corgi Stingrays.

Not quite minty, but not too bad either, really.

Flip-up lights still functional.

And two different types of wheel!

A great slice of Americana for £10 the pair.

Will pop those in with your others as well.

Thank you so much for securing the two Vettes, I’ve been wanting a silver one to go with the red Danbox one  and also keen to do custom colour one.

I’d like to cash in my Cogbox now before it gets too big to post if you don’t mind, but no rush. I can’t really remember what is in it so it would be good if you’d send me the bill without listing the contents so I can have the fun of opening it like a Christmas stocking!

Also I’d be keen to keep a new box going if you’re willing, just in case.

Edit lucky I didn't decide to buy this job lot on ebay!
