I just knew that BR livery Scarab was a Budgie

I'd have been interested in that Mercedes truck for a tenner as well but it, along with most of the other items seem very salty these last few weeks. Maybe it's just the way of things now.

More handmade wooden pattern toys were in evidence too this morning:

Flatbed lorry looked pretty jolly. I'd have loved this one too.

Forklift was smaller, but looked impressive with its working mechanism.

A quick turn round the corner revealed that Paddy had, astonishingly, failed to shift any of his older diecast stock from last week.

I know!!!

Mebbe the signage puts people off.

Or maybe it's the prices.

Who knows?

I don't think I'd pay £25 for this ropey Lesney Scammell with no hook, though.

Though whether this BBC OB van's worth £25 is probably up to the buyer... maybe not so common.

2069189389_IMG_20230728_0813182.thumb.jpg.0ffaddfa7994d5feb0620c195583ea66.jpg

A turn over to the Irish Tat stall revealed some new Corgi Vanguards:

1778662757_IMG_20230728_0806032.thumb.jpg.e6a1f0868ef820c41ae99de476fbac57.jpg

But yeeesh, not cheap.

There was, apparently, an Oxford Diecast delivery due - but it hadn't shown up yet.

Hot Wheels etc were the same as before:

559717192_IMG_20230728_0806572.thumb.jpg.be7fafd495f0e671876973433e2c34f9.jpg

A quick turn down to the Charity Stall revealed zero in the way of diecast, and not much in the way of food safety standards either.

Alan was still setting out his wares as I plodded past...

Has he... thrown away the upper box sections on these Vanguards commercials?

Cos that's just the inner bit.

The mind boggles...

Time for a scone, and a think.

is it damaged much?

Paint doesn't seem to be too gubbed - at least one of the doormirrors is either missing or damaged (can't quite make it out in the pic), while I fear for the wipers... mostly though, it's just really dusty.

Can check again at lunchtime, if you're interested!

That Scammell is crazy money, in that condition it is no more than a couple of quids worth. £25 is pure fantasy!

Yes please.  Because one of the nicer colours.

I've the Wolseley from new 15, years ago.  Even that has lost its mirrors and it just sat there doing nothing, most of its life in a the box..

The dust will be inhaled with gusto

would have given it a bit of a scrub as part of Friday Night Tat Bathtime (the Spot-On Land Rover could definitely use a bit of hot toothbrush action), but I'll not steal your gusto...

But a bit borked, despite its relatively recent paint job.

Looks to be a copy of the Dinky Packard 8 Tourist

I say 'copy' as the grille doesn't have the detail of the Dinky, but everything else is about right.  However even the pre-war release had separate chassis to mount the axles

Dinky France 1425, Matra 630 from 1967

Anyone had one of these? It’s one I look out for but never seen one, even in France. Atlas also did their reissue a few years back.

The 630 originally ran a British BRM 2.0 V8, then for 1968-on Matra’s own 3.0 V12.  Both those years were a reliability disaster, but it did fare far better for 1969, taking 4th 5th 7th at Le Mans.  Piers Courage from Colchester was a driver of the car coming 4th.  Sadly he died at Zandvoort the following year.

In the end the Matra developed into the MS 670, that Graham Hill completed his triple crown with in 1972. Partnered by Henri Pescarolo the won by 10 laps, beating the other Matra 670 driven by François Cevert and Howden Ganley.

Solido issued the Matras in special liveried boxes.

DSCF9199.thumb.JPG.2ac2dffed126e07962736afef4b43080.JPG

And what happened to the drivers. Graham Hill died in a plane crash after setting up his Embassey Hill F1 team.

Henri Pescarolo competed in the Le Mans 33 time and won it a further 3 times, the last in 1984 when he partnered Klaus Ludwig in a Porsche 956. AFter retiring from racing he set up his own race team that competed at Le Mans from 20000 to 2014.

François Cevert was team mate to Jackie Stewart at Tyrrell. During the 1973 season Stewart decided to retire and hand the reigns over to Cevert, but tragically this did not happen. Cevert was killed during practice for the Watkins Glen Grand Prix.

Howden Ganley had started his career at McLaren. He then tried his hand at F1 racing, but had little success. In 1975 he tried to develop an F1 car, but it never raced. He then used what was left to set up Tiga Race cars, that competed in various Sports Car races.

Could that mystery limo be a Marx, it’s quite similar to a Jaguar Mk5 from my Dad’s childhood toy box.

Anyway if only a fiver and you’re going back could you pick up the Corgi DB4 and the Lesney Wolseley 1500 assuming nobody else has asked?

So where are we at, come the midpoint?

708529212_IMG_20230728_1056312.thumb.jpg.6ed9e2e4f282a0c81680cc572ace9410.jpg

Well, good news (hopefully) for @TheOtherStu - there were two VW T1s on the stall when I arrived, one of the 'Peace & Love' vans and one of the 'Celebration' versions.

As far as my semi-detached recall goes, it was this version which was desired, and not the other one.

I nabbed it as soon as I saw it, which was just as well as the other one was soon gone - and the Jubilee Mini too.

These were part of the 'up-top' £10 models, but still - given that Corgi still sells these new on their website, not a bad price compared to the original price paid.

68536705_IMG_20230728_1126382.thumb.jpg.6998a1f4f1e1745c50ae38ecc202a0fa.jpg

Some brisk negotiations saw the Scammell Scarab and Moko-era Lesneys secured for the £10 asking price, for @flat4alfa:

1820289206_IMG_20230728_1057142.thumb.jpg.4bcd96ee314b5551cd89a2cc3f78ceb6.jpg

Someone's been monkeying around with silver and matt black paint to detail the Lesneys, but the body paint seems to be all original.

Also on the Lesney trail, I snagged this Bedford 7.5 Ton Tipper for myself.

1148182318_IMG_20230728_1057582.thumb.jpg.71250aade91371ad93cdb6139c21e686.jpg

I've had an eye out for one of these for a while, and this one's complete with not too much chipping.

And what's that behind it?

1174688058_IMG_20230728_1057332.thumb.jpg.3ac820be58621603f73936a24400dd43.jpg

I've had an eye on this very late issue Ford 103E Popular for a while now - it's been bobbing along at a tenner for a few weeks which seemed a smidge unnecessary, given that I still have my original mid-90s version in Sage Green.

But it seems that when the modern Corgi VWs and Minis all sold through earlier, Market Blokey just decided to dump them on the £5 clearance table.

So, I pounced.

1528445727_IMG_20230728_1057402.thumb.jpg.d9601186676036c687fd253b258f9ef4.jpg

Stupid non-number plates aside, this is perhaps slightly better detailed than my green version. The wheels are much better; the grille - maybe less so.

615408108_IMG_20230728_1057482.thumb.jpg.a862b8fff3fcf3f9c88400ad8d75fe9e.jpg

Plus dust.

I'll have a better look at this later on.

And lastly... my impulse control isn't good. You all know that.

1685668449_IMG_20230728_1058192.thumb.jpg.ec964494a0139b45e1c329181130963b.jpg

Some spirited haggling and judicious use of sadface at the damage to the doors and front wheel saw this drop from £20 to £13.

556945437_IMG_20230728_1058522.thumb.jpg.4d7c3e5c3e3a6f8416fc1d8bed67e926.jpg

I actually hadn't noticed the damage first time round.

413986817_IMG_20230728_1058292.thumb.jpg.b8bf983325a85747d8e2a83e781a081d.jpg

A fragile doorframe hasn't survived, just like the mirrors - or the steering wheel.

1587472055_IMG_20230728_1058402.thumb.jpg.f4f554b83183d21fb36f6f510be91a7c.jpg

As well as a non-standard rear tyre, this wheel hub's seen some bad times - but even so, this is a lovely big model. It should display alright, I think.

Appreciate it's not very cheap, and I'm more than happy to hold onto this myself if no-one wants it - but I'll give @Split_Pin first shout, and then open it out to the floor.

And so - it's getting near 12, and I'm getting antsy...

There could still be more to come...
