Matchbox arrived with Dinky right slap bang in the middle of the ‘collectors item’ era. Nevertheless they’re nice models, especially for the time, but they don’t seem to have a massive following now though.

They do seem to be especially fragile, those Dinky Vogues.

Possibly why they're relatively uncommon today, despite being in the range for a good few years?

I think the Dinky Matchbox Collection suffered because of the scatter gun approach to what they modelled. They were priced reasonable but produced in huge numbers and ended up sitting on shelves with discount price tags.

Some of the later models are more collectable such as the TR4A, Stag and XK150. These were produced near the end of the run and in much smaller numbers.

The range didn't last that long and was replaced by the Matchbox Collectables range, with some of the castings having another outing such as the '67 Mustang

On a mission today and had several hours spare to hunt for diecasts. Despite going in 10 odd shops and supermarkets, I've found nothing worth buying

I keep forgetting to look out for one of those. It really is fantastic in every way.

And for a Hot Wheels it’s not got the customary 14 litre V8 sticking out of the bonnet, painted in fluorescent green and 24 inch alloys treatment.

2023 case Matchbox now rolled out to more branches of Poundland:

Unfortunately, these are now correctly priced, following the 50p bonanza a few weeks back.

Poundstretcher had no further Matchbox of any description. There were still a few Hot Wheels blind bags in a basket, but only a solitary HW Experimotor longcard, the 'Speed Driver', left on the pegs:

They're a weird range, but I kinda like their ingenuity. I keep a Carbonator in the drinks cabinet for cracking open mixer bottles.

I'm pretty sure this one is meant to have a removable screwdriver attachment or something set into the body, as per the pic?

I probably wouldn't dare in this house.  If she found ANOTHER toy car in the sacred place where her gin is kept, the nearest bottle would be thrown at me.  Probably

Flipping 'eck! I need to get to Poundland. I spy the 'Then and Now' green 2018 Camaro, I was beginning to think it didn't exist! Only ever found the '81 version, and I need the newer one to to go with it.

That's a 2022 Hot Wheels series...

Yet the Matchboxes in the same store are 2023...

Mattel distribution makes such sense at times.

I've just been on Steve Flowers' website, where the selection of parts on offer is rather more comprehensive than his ebay listings.  Not to mention cheaper per item!  I made up a list of what I need, segregated into Corgi, Dinky and Spot-On, and I reckon I'll be buying them in stages!  The total without postage comes within conversing distance of £60.  Bloody hell....

And!  There's something I want that he wasn't able to offer, which is a shame as I need it to finish one of my restorations.

Corgi-Toys-332-Lancia-Fulvia-Sport-Zagat

Corgi Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato.  I have all the opening panels, windows, wheels, interior... but what I don't have is the radiator grille and headlights.  I can't find them anywhere.  Anyone got a mangled example that still has these intact?  Please?

You don’t get much from Steve Flowers for £60!

What I didn’t show when I put up pics of my Tri Deck Gift Set repro was the front of my code3 (is that correct use of terminology?) Lancia in orange with Whizzwheels.

IMG_6649.thumb.JPG.013405cea185b6b987dd3455e521ba9a.JPG

I got the cheapest one I could off ebay and when I received it was disappointed to find a missing headlight.

I did look back at the pics and it was shown from the top and by enlarging it and looking carefully it was possible to see this so I couldn’t really complain, just put it down to experience (I was pissed off though!).

IMG_6669.thumb.JPG.39438a7049a18dee3edc8712414ed75b.JPG

Anyway I made an acceptable replacement

IMG_6670.thumb.JPG.be24d5e5265f94b78f403e7107c5d417.JPG

but before fitting it I won a very cheap job lot of three.

CMLebay.thumb.jpg.dc181d3b8a2172f676d32eb6f711decd.jpg

So if you can wait, you can have the grill, one genuine light &  one homemade once I’ve received them.

Oooh I think I remember that listing, I missed out there, doh...

I do have need for parts for all three if parting-out is the intention!  I know the Marcos here lost its headlamp covers and one Lancia headlamp is off I know that

I wasn't going to part out and was intending a mixture of some parts donated to my collection and some resto, not sure really. I don't think there will be spare Lancia lights if @eddyramrodwants one (he wants two really) and I'm having one as I'm a selfish git.  I had bought a set of Mini Marcos lenses for mine from Steve Flowers and now I don't think I'll use them so you can have them for nothing if you want them. Let me know what other bits you want and I'll be just as unhelpful.

Underneath Speed Driver is a recessed hex bit holder to fit a 1/4" bit (not metric, because yankee).  The tray at the centre is where you hold your favourite flathead, Phillips, Torx etc bit.

You need to supply your own bit of choice, much like Tooligan from years ago

Tooligan_DVC01.thumb.webp.74824b9f8d3715f80b7ddf8a3a1550cd.webp

You'll also find out the spanner (wrench!) end is 3/8" and not metric either, silly sods.

Called into my local toyfair on the way home tonight. This was in the car park,I think it belongs to one of the sellers 😎20230509_205350.thumb.jpg.28ce807aa7a4ab838567f8325e6221cd.jpg

Not much inside to tempt me,a few Corgi Rockets, but nothing I haven't already got.I was hoping there might be some Impys, even though I definitely don't collect them 😂.I was tempted by a Minichamps Ford StreetKa in matt black, but already have blue ones in 3 different scales so passed on that.

I did find this though20230509_205205.thumb.jpg.58d280bfc29c2756e150f36121f7eb56.jpg

I've already got a beaten up one,but this is much nicer,& has the important bits which are normally missing20230509_205220.thumb.jpg.483306ca17d7c51922521c55c8bbc0dc.jpg

I wouldn't give 60 notes for that Louis Marx set myself, but they do fetch that sort of money as they are pushing 60 years old.  6-volt set, battery cells went into the hand controllers.

That's if it's not rusted track and the cars are warped and powdery like many

Unfortunately the cars sell well individually outside of the box, so its unusual to find complete set

@FakeConcern Thank you!  Excellent offer, and I'd be daft, not to mention rude, to turn it down.  Which of course I'm not going to do!  That's better than I could have hoped for.

That's the normal size though?

Disappointed that the other end isn't 10mm but I doubt it'd take much abuse anyway.

Do you have your pound notes in a Clip Rod?

Yes you are right, but I would be happier if it was 4mm type so I could carry more bits!  I have plenty of the slimmer 4mm.

Zamac vs tempered steel.  Who would win?

We don't use notes around here anymore.  We trade in calor cas cylinders

The other day I showed you a teaser shot of some bodies in primer.  Things have moved on...

I did say I had a body for the Commer chassis-cab!  The cab was part of a job-lot; the body was an ambulance body I had lying about under several coats of old Humbrol, so I united them and made a police van.  Oh...

...and the black one is one I did earlier!  Looks like my Toytown PD has changed livery since their first riot van arrived...

I don't know shit about these new Hot Wheels & Matchbox you lot like & usually I only go to the local Tesco Express which has almost none. Today I went to the Hastings Tesco Extra and had a look at the toys. I found I had no idea at all what to look at. There were Hot Wheels Mustang sets that I liked and all sorts of Hot Wheels & Matchbox, but I didn't buy anything as I have no idea what is what. So tomorrow I think I'm likely to go to the massive Tesco Extra at Ashford, what should I look out for and what does anyone want? Are prices all the same? I'm happy to pick up stuff if it's there and I know what's wanted.

You know what?  Best advice is to keep it that way and avoid the blighters!

They get in the way. On the shelves. In Crates of storage boxes. It’s like a perpetual quarterly swarm of recolour releases, playing on the mind. Space becomes a problem and the cat wonders where it has room to sit.

SAVE YOURSELF!

Stick with Corgi / Dinky 1:43 on a theme.  That’s best advice from a former addict.  I thought I was getting better, but no.  Doom still loomed

I’m better now. A bit.
