I first learned of the country of Malaysia through the base of a Hot Wheels Stutz, when I was about five or so.

I'm probably not alone in that - you could say that the toys really put Malaysia on the global map, by dint of putting them in the hands of millions of kids worldwide.

I'd love to see a Proton MPI model released too.

So would I!  I'd be all over one immediately to paint Willow Green, like our old one.

Probably just your store and a few others, so they can boast about them being reduced next week

I was about to post these very words!

I don't remember seeing the Holden in blue, so well found there.  Mine (charity shop bargain about 7 years ago) still has most of its original metallic gold paint, and is therefore unlikely to get "restored" in the near future.  It's a model I never had as a kiddy, although I remember it in the catalogues for absolutely ages.

More of those anniversary cars in co-op. I reckon there's been a container stuck at the docks since Covid full of these.

Bit of déjà vu to the market, this cold 'n' frosty morning - not an awful lot that's new, I'm afraid.

The tubs of pre-loved Matchbox and Hot Wheels, in their cheerily randomised packaging reinsertions, were back again for our viewing pleasure.

1483051524_IMG_20221209_0840592.thumb.jpg.5fe470c866cff79cdd2c111b615afd99.jpg

Some of last week's 1/76 buses were also back, plus some new '80s & '90s Corgi Classics commercials.

1270425296_IMG_20221209_0840532.thumb.jpg.18c18973b0b958cca595914ebe83c96a.jpg

The Corgi Thames Caravanette was gone, though the long-running Dodge Kew animal transporter was still looking hopefully for a new home - as was the repro Dinky Aston floppytop.

731061041_IMG_20221209_0841102.thumb.jpg.278374ce81553484c88ab0467fa7c271.jpg

The Matchbox Dinky Mercedes-Benz holiday coach is one that gave me pause for thought - I've been idly looking out for one of these for a fair few years, and other than a few box dings this was in good fettle, and reasonably priced at a tenner.

But I dunno... I mean it's nice enough, but the detailing is, shall we say "of its time" - and it's kinda hard to go from today's IXO stuff back to the mid-'90s. Just seems a wee bit crude with its bright red plastic interior and thick chromework.

If I want to sample some in-period Merc coach charm, there's always the splendid Kirk O-302 I picked up a few months back. This one seemed to represent a bit of a backwards step - so, very reluctantly, I put it back.

I'll regret that decision later tonight, no doubt, but hey.

1909332422_IMG_20221209_0841162.thumb.jpg.a794fc4b10e064433591052e9bb69fbb.jpg

The hugely over-boxed AEC London Transport Bus by Solido was still there, mind. Also at a tenner.

And the Joal Volvo coach was starting to seem more and more appealing too, at £10, but I stopped myself.

1182964172_IMG_20221209_0844422.thumb.jpg.6fa887fae08cc1d63e94a9bb095fff84.jpg

Looks even better in plain blue and white, I reckon.

A few additional £10 models remained in a crate round the back of the stall - more early Corgi Classics buses and lorries, for the most part:

Though there were also these far-Eastern 1/76 buses, which someone will probably advise me are worth more than my house:

I understand these are also a tenner a throw.

And finally, some festive fun*:

*sort of

A delightful Corgi Cameos Christmas set, consisting of ten models with some vaguely festive tampo prints, and the all-important Certificate of Authenticity, advising this is one of a mere 20,000 sets produced.

968670252_IMG_20221209_0847282.thumb.jpg.837203078bb760bb3a3ec8796d5a840e.jpg

Quite.

I'm not sure what you're even meant to do with these - around the same time, Matchbox Collectibles offered Austin Seven vans with loops so they could at least be hung on a (sturdy) tree - but these seem to be just dust-catchers.

So it's a firm no from me on those.

Otherwise, this fairly playworn Tri-ang garage was quite appealing - but at £50, strong money.

1392752303_IMG_20221209_0845392.thumb.jpg.58681cb0b6923b7201b8510c4bc5f947.jpg

Despite the ad on the side, I don't believe this was actively marketed as part of the Spot-On range - but I'll check my little book later on. Maybe it was.

151028112_IMG_20221209_0845112.thumb.jpg.3ec05b172d52493d732a3494861c77f9.jpg

Some sympathetic restoration could probably see this revived as a very nice display centrepiece, and although far from cheap I don't think it's massively overpriced. But not for me today, thanks.

A quick spin round the rest of the stalls provided little in the way of anything new - Alan's Emporium boasted a couple of okay-ish '90s Matchbox for 50p, but nothing I don't have in at least the same condition.

162243233_IMG_20221209_0848222.thumb.jpg.f3f14cfac616d2a2d9495e52d76a3d3b.jpg

A scone and a coffee were procured to drive the cold winter away (still registering -1°C on the frosty streets of Belfast), and with that I had to flee to a meeting, but - as ever - I might be heading out again briefly at 1pm so if there's anything critical you can see, do sing out ASAP...

Yes they were Triang. Originally part of the Minics range, and then rebranded as Spot-On

That one at £50 is steep, compared to the £60  that this made at auction recently

But when in better condition they can fetch £160 like this one

Those multi-pack Asian buses look rather excellent, and are something of a barg (probably), but having realised how much clutter I'm amassing, I MUST go cold turkey. The Eurolines Bova Futura does rather tickle my frussetpouch, but at a tenner it's not quite as much of a sublime deal as when he was boshing buses out for five notes apiece, so I'll use that an incentive to keep hands in pockets.

Hope the scone was good!

Thanks. For £1 I would have as many as you could get up to say £10 with black then red then any other colour with gold last in order if you really don't mind. I know it sounds excessive, but I was hoping to get some for C30 club members, one of whom had them as a centre piece on the tables at his wedding and they all got nicked!

After last week's careful and diligent search of the toyboxes revealed no remaining C30s, I wasn't really expecting much this week... but a cursory rummage resulted in me pulling out, in best Little Jack Horner stylee, an unexpected black C30...

And further delving produced another one, plus another two in gold.

Dunno whether last week these had been set aside for someone who ultimately didn't come back for them, but either way - there they were.

So I'll set those aside for you, dude - and hopefully it'll give you a couple of extra black ones for yourself, plus a couple to help replenish your club chum's pilfered collection! No red ones, unfortunately.

@Datsuncogalways seem to miss these on a Friday, he had some buses there that are steals even at a tenner, if any of the three Geminis were about at any point in the future I'd be interested (those being the Arriva London, the black/silver 36 one & the silver Wright demonstrator). I will have to set a reminder for the next time around just in case!

There was indeed a Gemini remaining on the stall this morning - just the one. So I nabbed it for you.

I was surprised it was still there, as the local connections to Wrightbus puts these in a fair bit of demand.

I was also a bit shocked to realise this model's 19 years old.

So it's here for you along with the £5 Optare Lynx from a few weeks back - just give me a rattle whenever you want them sent!

It was a pretty good scone, as it happens - they're £1.50 now rather than the pound they used to be, but still not bad value. They're about the size of a fist and plenty of fruit in them too. Not a bad breakfast.

I know the feeling - there comes a point when there's just too many models, and a queasy sensation takes over... not good. Still, there's never a shortage - I'm sure there'll still be plenty available whenever you feel the tug become irresistable.

Happy Friday, kids.

Those Corgi bus sets are bargains at £10. It still intrigues me how so many far eastern buses keep turning up at Belfast market, really not a place you'd expect to find them.

It's a shame the silver one from that three-piece set was never sold separately as I'd probably have several of them for reasons that will become apparent. I just have one that had randomly been split from the set and sold by itself, which with a little bit of reworking became this, representing one of the many ex-HK Olympians brought to the UK by Ensignbus to become school buses.
