Those V12E-Types look so much better than the full-size versions, especially the 2+2.

Could be wrong but I think we missed this one on this years mix? It’s a Chevy Nova.

image.jpg

Looks like we're on mix 5 at the moment. Appears like we missed 4 which had the pink Mini and orange 67 Charger :( . 6 will have a green Beetle, the Citroen Ami and red BMW 2002.

2023 mix 1 seems to also have the Ami, a yellow 32 Ford 5 window and not a lot else of interest, mix 2 has a recoloured Dodge Sweptside pickup, the Ami again and a green Ranchero

Looks like the Nova was a 2021 car that Tesco didn't bother stocking

Checking back we definitely missed 2021 mix 5, orange Porsche 914, green Jeepster, blue Merc 220, black BMW 2002,

2021 Mix 3 was the Nova, and the silver Capri plus white Honda CVCC, green MGB, red/white Dodge Sweptside.

Fuck you Tesco

That Salco Wolseley Hornet.

A real upright steering wheel and a rear window which looks as if it belongs on a limo it is that large.

I think I have only ever seen the Hornet made by Vitesse not one made by Salco

A diversion to Germany for my new arrival. My main interest is low-volume production cars, coachbuilt variations and one-off specials and the whole reason I buy these toy cars is because I love the idea that these mostly quite obscure things were modelled. Beyond the obvious Politoys one of the ranges of toys I've been fascinated by for a long time, just because they seem so atypical, is the very small number of Marklin 1:43 coupés from the late 1960s/ early '70s. Of course they're difficult to find in the UK and can be quite expensive - in fact, most of them I've never seen for sale whatsoever in this country, so I instantly jumped on this one when it popped up on ebay recently.

20221128_141111.thumb.jpg.35217798009516e5b1e8d243a24e309d.jpg

20221128_141125.thumb.jpg.792d3a64a1659059a96ee68ba9edd804.jpg

It's the OSI 20M TS, aka a Ford Taunus in an Italian frock. OSI wasn't exactly the sexiest household name back in the '60s coachbuilding world, but weirdly quite a few of its cars were made in small scale. The 20M TS was also done by Siku in Matchbox-size, weirdly.

20221128_141140.thumb.jpg.6756c49fbf0547c92dcfdfc33ae0876f.jpg

This Marklin does a good job of the real thing's slightly weird proportions, although its comically underhweeled

20221128_141156.thumb.jpg.707c1cc5e60bc70204d86e09cd8308c2.jpg

There's an engine in there, but pretty basic, and there's no dash detail

20221128_141212.thumb.jpg.8ffcd7a8feaad30f8759218582b946d8.jpg

Basic underneath, too. Note one screw and one rivet. Fans of melted wheels will note a mild reaction to the rubber tyres here. I'm not sure how this fits into the chronology and there doesn't appear to me much info about this range online, but there were various wheels fitted over the years.

The only other Marklin I have is the BMW-Glas GT

20221128_141304.thumb.jpg.3a30d93b41996565ee3ae0fd293272e5.jpg

A shame they're both quite dull colours. I also have one other OSI car, the Politoys Fiat 1200S

20221128_144554.thumb.jpg.b70f56be071ca015d0ffd92c54640a59.jpg

So, there you go. I'll keep looking for the Glas V8 and that's probably it for me and this maker...

There was a talented restorer on the blue years back who was restoring an Osi. I'd never heard of them before or since. I'm racking my brain for his username... he restored several different cars and had a mk1 Fiesta for his son more recently I think. Stunning diecast to be fair.

Yes they made a right cock-up of the rear window proportions, but it is a bit of 1960s Hong Kong plastic.

I have a few of the Vitesse Elfs and Hornets. Note the mistake on the boot lid of the Hornet

Had a couple of deliveries this week, grabbed this Dinky Beetle, the later type with plastic wheels. I've got a spare decklid from the red kit version I restored a while back. This one is also destined for resto, in fact it's already taking a bath in the stripper

Pity the boards are missing, but still a nicely detailed model.

My local Tesco took a large haul of Matchboxes this week. I had to put some back as there were so many I liked.

It’s fantastic to temporarily recreate that explosion of excitement when you cannot choose which Matchbox. Like being 10 all over again!

I already have the Capri and MGB in the previous UK packaging and as I paid at least 50p extra for that I never opened them. I wanted these mainlines therefore so I could open them.

The Capri is absolutely superb, lovely paint,  the fake side grilles are picked out and I think it has a 1600 badge on the lower wing. It's a lot nicer than the yellow one which is plain in comparison. I'm really impressed with it.

The MGB is almost as nice and the yellow colour reminds me of the V8 models. Good dash detail and badging too.

All still for £1.50 each.

The Kangoo is  a bit disappointing . I shone my phone torch through the near-opaque windows and there's no interior at all. The livery is nice though and ill liven it up with some headlight detailing tomorrow.

Excellent, I have a saved ebay search for all permutations of this model now!

Speaking of which, my smaller scale Mira example landed today. I compared it with the competition* at the time.

Its peak Mira in my opinion and on par with the CX AKA the reference point.

No play in the wheels and axles, crisp detailing, metal base and brown interior.

The badging is a good effort but it's not in the correct font.

This is where the Majorette wins:

20220929_162857.thumb.jpg.290607b3f5c71d96e591e96c9ad117f8.jpg

Middle is the Norev Mini Jet and left is the Majorette.

They've covered 75% of all names the car had as far as I know, the exception being the UK 'Chrysler Alpine'. Not counting the MK2 versions which had the same range of names again, and a saloon!

Is this one you're looking for? Looks nice, and it'll match your 1:43 version....

Swung past Tesco last night and happened* to find myself in the toy aisle.

There are now three diecast dump bins on the shelves - two for Matchbox and one for Hot Wheels. But seemingly well-sifted by other funny-looking middle-aged men collectors.

A quick guddle through them didn't net me the hoped-for '57 Ford Custom 300, though I was sorely tempted by the HW Lamborghini Miura in blue, and the SWB Nissan Patrol.

As I was exiting the aisle, adopting the air of one merely browsing gifts for a fictional niece or nephew, I noticed a Ford Custom abandoned on a low shelf down by the Lego.

Get in.

1200882211_IMG_20221130_1622512.thumb.jpg.28e1cafa7249305e4da8a98bf5f7944c.jpg

The black paintwork means it's an awkward thing to photograph in low light, but it's a really nice model - nicely rendered and with some very subtle detailing, like the Ford lettering on the bonnet.

One that could be improved with a spot of careful paint wash to tone down the grille's shine, no doubt. Some red paint for rear lights and this could look very nice indeed...

Certainly lifted my mood, anyway!

Crikey I had the Anglia, Reliant Regal, Rover P4 and the 100E.

I remember being excited about the Anglia as I bought it in April 1996 right when Vanguards were a new brand. I also struggled to find a model of one at the Swapmeets despite Dinky and Lesney producing it.

Yep, that was how I felt about the pair of Hot Wheels - I felt I could just about rationalise £1.50's worth of frivolity on the Custom 300, but not another four quid for the Miura and Patrol SWB too. The shopping bill was enough of a shock as it was...

I think the yellow EmGeeBeeGeeTee is the only one from this case mix I've still got half an eye out for - I had two of the red ones from the UK Collection, but hurriedly offloaded those back in January. I'm not so bothered that I'd actively seek one out, though; will just continue to poke at the dump bins whenever I'm passing in case I get lucky.

Agree with you on the metallic blue Capri too - I've still got the yellow and black one unopened from earlier in the year, but the blue one looked so darned good I wasted no time in tearing it open...
