I stand corrected! 😂

I’d got the year wrong as well it was 1983, USA only model. I think some surplus ones ended up in U.K. but no idea how as the were made in Macau and Hong Kong then sent direct to USA. Some say they were available mid 80’s in Tesco. Nobodies sure?

Stripped one of these down today, ready to use up the excess filler leftovers from the bus when I get chance to do that.

IXO Granada mk2 estate. In mega rare pillarless form😄

It was an absolute whore to strip, sooo much glue used on everything. Rear bumper snapped unfortunately trying to free it but should glue back together and with some paint shouldn’t be noticeable.

I have the required paint already.

You're not going to paint it that dark blue metallic on your old Ghia-X one?

That model is a pre facelift mk2, so no.
But, I do have an IXO mk2 facelift model in my stockpile somewhere that is going into mineral blue metallic.

I might try to find the donor model actually and do both together.

I've a real soft spot for those Corgi Rover Sterlings - found a really nice one online a couple of years back, and I'm still delighted with it.

20190725_213305.thumb.jpg.45cd6e38a310460508abc9492ac6b21e.jpg

I believe Corgi worked closely with Rover on the prototypes prior to the launch of the real car, just as they'd done a few years earlier with the Minimetro, Mk3 Escort and Sierra.

I particularly like the Rover badge printed onto the insert.

(Potatocam pic not much good, though)

The Volvo 760 of the same era is a belter too.

The corgi Sterling (like my other nemesis the corgi Marina coupe) is a belter, I keep getting out bid on eBay and haven’t spied one at toy fiat yet, one will appear eventually!

Speaking of Corgi - I rather pleasingly I found this in a cabinet of treasured drag race memorabilia at the Don Garlits drag racing museum in Florida. (The museum is incredible BTW bucket list stuff for me!)

Also a Matchbox transporter!

The cleaning continues, this time some old stuff.

DSCF5990.thumb.JPG.0f863e3f05159eb89c94963ed2eb4c0f.JPG

Dinky Triumph 2000 is well naked, but the casting is good.

DSCF5991.thumb.JPG.647235621d2a2021725f396ec65346c3.JPG

No boot lid though and a crack in the rear screen

DSCF5992.thumb.JPG.8ab5bc025bc8c89d08c64860f630ae53.JPG

Dinky Routemaster looks quite good with good glass but slightly dull paint.

DSCF5993.thumb.JPG.7425167dc43ec94c8b7db5cbe3325bf6.JPG

With a set of fresh decals and a polish and touch up it could look great.

DSCF5994.thumb.JPG.f39956dbd4c9375399ace91ca97a4fcc.JPG

Nice old Dinky Bentley S2. This was nicotine yellow before I washed it.

DSCF5995.thumb.JPG.e3a80b9ca02b6e77675451138fd0af48.JPG

Pity about the broken screen. You can still see how bad the yellowing was in the door shuts and on the driver.

DSCF5996.thumb.JPG.cf32080fd130008a7290dd48eafeef55.JPG

Not a bad old thing...

DSCF5997.thumb.JPG.c9d1b31a9d860640591dc93ac82a3ccd.JPG

with quite a clean base. Also note one corner is missing from the bumper.

DSCF5998.thumb.JPG.a7fc462bbc834fe67bf8f8c0fb8d7bc2.JPG

Corgi Heinkel is ripe for restoration with a good casting.

DSCF5999.thumb.JPG.057f2adc467056d6d3e8dc2ec0252a30.JPG

There is a slight crack in the rear window.

DSCF6001.thumb.JPG.3984092e2aa247520c74d86a6d00cadb.JPG

Another in need of some rejuvenation is the Beetle Driving School car.

DSCF6002.thumb.JPG.9fa38fd2e75e1a22389960b50af8cbb7.JPG

Take that stupid wheel off the roof and delete the L-plate mounts this could look like a 1980s Cal-Look Bug with the right pastel shade on it.

DSCF6003.thumb.JPG.0ef2c6bf54922aacd1c23f281a4ad3c9.JPG

This was another that had lived in a smoke filled room for a few years, a Spot-On Austin Healey.

DSCF6004.thumb.JPG.5991291de30ed3943c8342f23d13587c.JPG

No screen of steering wheel.

DSCF6005.thumb.JPG.244a153138353620ab06debc1e69b480.JPG

The casting is good although the interior is still grubby.

DSCF6006.thumb.JPG.2a13a07457c7f0886869c5bed7f86b16.JPG

DSCF6007.thumb.JPG.a2a699d538bee4b4ca01fc5c21c22ae3.JPG

Finally we have this Lone Star Mk X Jag.

DSCF6008.thumb.JPG.90c2c7f2c22cff1e3eb3ad57d419a02a.JPG

Even though this is a 1/64th scale model, Lone Star have captured the proportions quite well.

DSCF6009.thumb.JPG.5f671e1379937c64615b4c9904177332.JPG

Lots of opening parts for a small model.

DSCF6010.thumb.JPG.cb9fec6c3eea24d01d0e8061f4b9d047.JPG

Screw in base, is that normal for these?

Some do

s-l1600(11).webp.21279f55ca9444aa00be597e805e51be.webp

Some don't

Corgi-Toys-438_2-Rover-800-Sterling-GG359-front.jpg.777bddf25ecb1c2110dd0342d745f04a.jpg

Late models suffered sunroof delete.  But kept the opening everything else, surprisingly.

Also notice the packaging removed 'Sterling' and replaced with '800'.  The base remained same casting with 'Sterling' to the end.

I *don't collect the Corgi 1/36 toys, but I really want a Sterling now,I'm not sure I've ever seen one IRL.

*I have a few that are really nice though, including the Sierra, Mustang Fox body, Volvo, Renner 11, Mini & Metro and a few more I can't remember!

Another gem from that era, the standard Mercedes 190E, not the wide body 2.5 but the standard width model. Quite hard to find now though.

Did Britax do the sunroof delete?

Yes and Richard Grant Accessories made the inserts for the hubcaps.

Wonder if this sign on top might look convincing enough. Obviously with the bit round the siren hole flattened back.

It seems there were two Taxis to scrap over

The Swinford Nurburgring car tampo was a good effort on a 1984-5 campaign car  Ok it looks a bit daft having a sunroof, but still...

It's not surprising they recast into the bespoilered Mercedes Cosworth 16.  They didn't go for the 1986 campaign livery change, but produced others

For a 190 lover, my 190 collection in 1/36 is embarassingly sparse, there's only this and a late edition valver,
