Escort is worth grabbing, good condition ones are snapped up on eBay. £5 is about the max I'd pay for a really good one but they sell for more

Yeah,he's asking £15ish for it...

Right gang, in between pretending to be Valerie Singleton and you all posting lush models (that Taunus is... Exquisite)... Could you help me find a saloon Omega facelift that doesn't look like a failed experiment involving Lego and a blowtorch? Got a couple of pre facelifts in civvy and plod livery but have never found the 2000-2004 model...

The only one I can find is the Schuco V8 Star race car

I've had a few of the pre-facelift ones by Schuco

Was there an Omega or variant of (Chevy etc) in the magazine part work of Opel cars? They did pretty much everything else so I’m sure there must be an Omega!?

I can’t find a list of all the models anywhere though.

Today’s haul. The Matchbox CX Safari , I’ve already got so if anyone wants it for a Quid plus postage, let me know. The RX7 and Panda Car were also both a Pound. Got a second HW Land Rover to paint white as a replica of one I owned. Not sure why I bought the Drift 240 , I don’t like it! so again if anybody wants it for £1.49 plus postage…

They did, only post facelift casting I've seen too.

Yes please to one of them, if still available. I think you might have one or two other things put aside for me?

Quick trip into town yesterday, picked up a few essential things:

IMG_9183.thumb.JPG.92d1faa4404c04ebfb2e515739570a11.JPG

IMG_9184.thumb.JPG.3932056a8a466dfa5dbd12b9f0d7b5a5.JPG

HWs from Morrisons, Corgi MB £1.50 from a charity shop, Matchbox 1/64-ish selection 4 for £1 from another charity shop (is the Mercury from a later gift pack?), Corgi RR £5 from a little curios/collectibles shop.

The latter had a few diecasts scattered around the place, including:

IMG_9181.thumb.JPG.32c6e372b246503c0dd049061f649f32.JPG

I didn't rummage too far in the Corgi Classics box, the few I looked at on top weren't very exciting.

Factory error Corgi VW Hot Rod - later type wheels on the back. Don't think this style were ever fitted to this model so I suppose it may be one of the last made

Couple of MIB Mebetoys? Go on then

First up is Mebetoys No A23, 1967 Chaparral 2F. I'm not really interested in pure competition cars of this era but it's a nice model and seemed a bargain for £13 considering it's basically brand new

20231217_123209.thumb.jpg.cfb2af8de10a894e9e37a47db1065aef.jpg

The engine cover slides off, rvealing the big Chevrolet V8 and spare

20231217_123244.thumb.jpg.f14cff10460c0adcb184402b04766955.jpg

The very delicate opening doors are present and correct, although tend to detach themselves

20231217_123324.thumb.jpg.f29ad857e41895f0617fe6b9db5f49cf.jpg

Like the real thing, the wing is adjustable

20231217_123354.thumb.jpg.5d2c38b3d59ea3c6d16b1bedb6f97fe3.jpg

Quite a decent little thing. Typically, Politoys also did a version of the same car, which really seems like overkill. That one tends to show up in less true to life liveries. Anyway, fine.

Next is a bit more my sort of thing, really. Mebetoys A47, Lamborghini Uracco

20231217_123446.thumb.jpg.bba4a9abbf028183f29cab26efb1c4bc.jpg

Again, this genuinely looks like it's never been touched before. I really like the real car and I don't think these models are too common so I jumped at this one.

20231217_123535.thumb.jpg.061f419e8692d2b56166b7acde4a47a6.jpg

Lots of opening bits. It's a funny mix of really nice detail and slightly shonky quality, which I suspect is true of many of these later Mattel-era Mebetoys

20231217_123546.thumb.jpg.3291a5c19a2a61a38c097bd3f04f9a51.jpg

I particularly like the accurate seats. The paint is shockingly thin and barely covers the metal on some bits. Probably accurate to the real thing I guess

20231217_123512.thumb.jpg.f6990a79b403bc3220810d32ecb94a96.jpg

Lovely engine detail and cast badge, bu no effort to detail the rear lamps

20231217_123556.thumb.jpg.dcbd5bd1a0cf3703d669926983a5f9bd.jpg

Still fitted with a heavy metal base, which has great cast-in front suspension detail

20231217_131428.thumb.jpg.8b092849833568d75a3b1eb90c40f256.jpg

Just need to find a Politoys an Islero for the Lamborghini set I think

Well. Looks like no one has done a late version (often called the Omega C on parts catalogues). Have they no standards?! I'll just have to accept that I have the PFLs and then realise that I dislike having guests round, much less those who would notice the model year of any cars I had out... :D

Thanks for that link though. Given the fleet we have here I'll be doing some searches to complete our model collection...

Rodriguez had to head out and pick up a borked Ford this evening in his trusty Pegaso recovery rig.

After dropping off the Escort he got another call about another broken down Ford…

At this point Rodriguez knew he was fucked!

Toy fair this morning and I picked up some interesting (to me) toys, Mrs Concern bought a load of stuff too, but our daughter was also with is for the weekend and came along and also got a lot of stuff (we paid for!) so it was a bit confusing.

First stall had the Dinky Faerarri £2, Matchbox Mercury Wagon £3 & Dinky E Type for £5.

IMG_8481.thumb.JPG.a73d7744d5220265e55af0b63beeb19a.JPG

Got them all for £8 which I was happy with

IMG_8482.thumb.JPG.cc0c43d7cd948bfac192736949700f3c.JPG

Next seller wanted £50 for these, some very interesting I thought

IMG_8483.thumb.JPG.095db634eb02d264468613eda08bed64.JPG

I knocked him down to £40 which was ok

IMG_8484.thumb.JPG.9e1d7a558bd756166b38ac329a50ddfb.JPG

This lot were 50p each and I intended to use the wheels and various parts for some projects although I may repaint the Dinky Alfa

IMG_8485.thumb.JPG.c781b2cccc0369e5a888f70ab4b36d96.JPG

This Marcos was £1

IMG_8486.thumb.JPG.d79dc8bd1eb0b14b1a0cf99bdbe304e8.JPG

It's the same colour as my childhood one which has over the years suffered a re paint and lost the complete dash and steering wheel!

IMG_8487.thumb.JPG.867e8fc48701007c9a73dac4cf22811f.JPG

I can never leave a cheap Corgi Elan behind so at £4 I have this too

IMG_8488.thumb.JPG.9bbfe090766abcb57ee203e0886c58fd.JPG

Missing a tyre and I'll give it a soak to try and get the stickers off the sides

IMG_8489.thumb.JPG.a66c5d5d27962b8a9f31d0c635dfb01e.JPG

I don't know what I paid for these bits as Mrs Concern and daughter bought a load of stuff at the same time, I knocked him down from £14 to £10 for all of it and Mrs Concern was happy with it so in that case so am I

IMG_8490.thumb.JPG.f118aa408e8bd6de0366800291e0f8c3.JPG

Interesting catalogue showing  a proposal for the Swordfish speed boat with a red Marlin Rambler rather than the Oldsmobile it actually came with. I have a Catalogue from 1967 with the correct Gift Set in.

IMG_8491.thumb.JPG.aa6b77a8215e04d07a87b2dc357014c0.JPG

Does anyone know what make this trailer is? I can't see any maker's marks on it, but it's quite nice

IMG_8492.thumb.JPG.5167aca5d7ae3230fe70fa7dccf2b08e.JPG

The Politoys Corvette Pininfarina Concept is nice, shame I didn't see the cracked A pillars and glazing due to poor light, but I think I'd have had it anyway

IMG_8493.thumb.JPG.01da973ddfc171a083923b1ab7e91d3e.JPG

As far as I can make out most of them don't have the Whizzwheels/Speedwheels lookalikes on them, but I quite like that. I'm not sure if the chequred stripes would be original or not

IMG_8494.thumb.JPG.5fc7834eae30ae4b68ca41bc65ab9b54.JPG

This Solido 250 GT apears to be re painted, but I really like it

IMG_8495.thumb.JPG.6804500e69fccb4f9238839613076d21.JPG

I've never seen the model before, but always admired the real thing in my Observer's Book of Automobiles when I was a kid.

IMG_8496.thumb.JPG.73be504cd5ceddea20d23a56abc13755.JPG

Repainted Mebetoys Giulia with the wrong wheels, I couldn't get him down lower than £8 (from £10), but I bought it anyway

IMG_8497.thumb.JPG.69b1186befb4510d973f31d456a101db.JPG

I may re paint it red or make it into a police car for an Italian Job diorama with 60s Corgi Minis

IMG_8498.thumb.JPG.ad144972cfe49b6f61c0780dfd7da241.JPG

I have a few Norev Jet Cars and love this Volvo

IMG_8499.thumb.JPG.42ae029dd6dcdaae689acd7e1dc87424.JPG

This 50p Polistil Volvo missing grill and bumper and with some sort of Whizzwheels is a bit strange, as far as I can see this is claimed to be 1/43, but seems too small

IMG_8500.thumb.JPG.47ac32dc96fbfaed86745adbf030a70c.JPG

I quite like it though

IMG_8501.thumb.JPG.cc0f62c2faad9abb98caed4efebd5818.JPG

I didn't even know French Dinky was a thing until recently and this R16 is the first I've bought

IMG_8502.thumb.JPG.a09ddfe0f27f0fd9f4faab0f1143b91a.JPG

I need to compare it to the Corgi one which has folding rear seats to this ones sliding seats

IMG_8503.thumb.JPG.ed44835f27925ca7786e3498035015be.JPG

Norev Citroen Mehari is I think plastic with metal base

IMG_8504.thumb.JPG.529e1331120618ef0b7b0f7c629b878b.JPG

I've not seen one before and not sure I have any tyres to fit, but it was only 50p. Also most of them seem not to have doors.

IMG_8505.thumb.JPG.5d7c0d719827cf17c280aa870a67d29f.JPG

It is filthy, but still has gear lever!

To cheers myself up I thought I'd have a look at what I think is one of the most oddball toy cars of my childhood.

Majorette No. 253 Oldsmobile.

I was given this twin set as a gift when I was around 2 or 3, probably for Christmas, so that would be 1981 or 1982.

The opening bonnet, the sail boat (which originally had a folding mast) and the Ford Cortina-like proportions always made it feel like quite a relevant toy and I played with it a lot. Sadly the original car from my childhood is long gone, probably stolen or swapped away but miraculously the fragile boat (together with the trailer) survived.

About 5 years or so ago, I bought from ebay, at quite considerable expense, a replacement car. They are seemingly quite rare now and I had to get it directly from France. I'm also convinced the original car was a lighter shade of blue however the overall condition of the replacement was almost identical to my childhood example.

At that time I also carried out some research on the real car and what a weird choice of subject. The Oldsmobile Omega 2nd Generation was a short-run US domestic subcompact car which suffered from quality issues, together with an on-paper performance and specification that is as forgettable as your last potato. Its therefore an extremely strange choice for a French toy car manufacturer but I'm so glad they made it.

The real car was transverse engined and front wheel drive with an option of 2.5 4 cylinder or V6 engines but some artistic licence from Majorette sees it with a longitudinal V8, much more suitable for towing a yacht. I'm sure a Yacht owner could have afforded a more powerful car though!

I’ve got that Olds. Found it in a job lot I think. I had no idea it was supposed to come with the boat & trailer though. I didn’t realise the bonnet opens either!

I do like it when a manufacturer picks an oddball car to make like that though. Something nobody else does.
