Shite in Miniature II

Right then - timings were a bit tighter this morning than I'd hoped - but I managed a very brief foray into the market, and I've got very slightly less than half an hour to get the details up here...

So the market was a bit slow to start this morning - an evening 'Twilight Market' on Tuesday and Wednesday meant that all the usual stalls had been shifted about...

IMG_20231103_0729332.thumb.jpg.71857ee5d60ad40cb859acb4a377266d.jpg

But things were up and tatting over at the usual spot by 7.30.

IMG_20231103_0729582.thumb.jpg.3349951b7a4019dee9ebc527b245ce63.jpg

Hmmm... not necessarily what we're here for, although...

IMG_20231103_0730302.thumb.jpg.2b91c7310427396c9a2c291717130c85.jpg

There may be some rhinestones in the rough, if not actual diamonds.

IMG_20231103_0730332.thumb.jpg.3e8a60d6af148266254efe427ac9774d.jpg

These are pretty cheap, at £3 each - though I feel this ain't their first appearance.

Up top on the main stall, more of last week's stock - plus other new arrivals, it would seem:

IMG_20231103_0730422.thumb.jpg.bc74fbce29f410d9b1db7f2cdc1b35a9.jpg

We've had a few big Maisto Jaguar S-Types come through, boxed and unboxed, and this one looked ok for a tenner.

IMG_20231103_0731262.thumb.jpg.d25ddaab95abd9263184c48991983a28.jpg

Plus a stack of vintage and classic septics in 1/24 or thereabouts:

IMG_20231103_0731212.thumb.jpg.5115ee00e58e8bd3f5d805c776d0a97c.jpg

I'm told these are more products from Franklin Mint - though there's no indication of this on bases or packaging.

IMG_20231103_0731182.thumb.jpg.10c1fa91557bb68a59bab139866f6c85.jpg

Clearly, stealth luxury is the way forward.

This big Dodge Power Wagon with only one eye is a frequent flyer.

IMG_20231103_0814352.thumb.jpg.10960243b87967428ef14a54a5a237dc.jpg

The others were mostly the dregs of the modern stuff from last week.

IMG_20231103_0755282.thumb.jpg.7405951b58c6e29c813144eb5f8e71b7.jpg

Mmm, dusty.

These loose models are once again priced at a fiver each - which doesn't make a lot of sense as there are boxed versions of some of them on the side table for £3.

Oh well. What's logic got to do with it?

Some old railway stuff also in evidence today:

IMG_20231103_0730532.thumb.jpg.ccf5403252b9dc058dcbf14041894231.jpg

IMG_20231103_0731402.thumb.jpg.f94c571a601ba0992833c23352c86d1d.jpg

And, across the other side of the stall - the NASCAR stuff from last week, with some stowaway Hongwell peelermobiles, plus more Frankly Skint..

IMG_20231103_0753132.thumb.jpg.f68a8b20261d592840af4b671bf20a57.jpg

... and also some of the older stuff.

IMG_20231103_0753102.thumb.jpg.c7e63beb53e1186acfaff8143bb22cfe.jpg

Now that's more like it.

Of course, I'd already spotted The Nemesismobile parked outside, so I knew he was in already.

He'd found some railway stuff he fancied, and soon after the boxes from last week were punted our way for further perusal:

IMG_20231103_0739532.thumb.jpg.1bc236785e0042f0de2954cf76a95652.jpg

There was nothing new in here - just all the stuff from last week.

I'd rather hoped Nemesis had also been absent last week, but no - he'd been in at 7.30 as usual and had made some plum finds.

IMG_20231103_0746342.thumb.jpg.e3946d81f5ee884e085a088ff4b194ef.jpg

In fact, he'd come away with rather more than I did - twenty-odd items.

Looks like he might have broken the three-figure sum barrier.

IMG_20231103_0746442.thumb.jpg.514989846318d477d2fcbd85ec1a1545.jpg

I did my best not to listen with too much green-eyed envy as he reeled off his finds, busying myself instead with the contents of the various tat boxes...

IMG_20231103_0747332.thumb.jpg.5e6ea5a7bd90747fc8935cc31a52502f.jpg

"...a Matchbox Dinky Mini Cooper in plain red..."

Yep, I missed out. Plainly. Though - at least I didn't have to witness it, I guess.

His finds this week didn't give me quite so many pangs - though the Bond Collection 5 Series is quite nice, I'll admit.

IMG_20231103_0750152.thumb.jpg.a3fef1e5f72aefa255025e716ccd466f.jpg

Other oddities were to be found dotted around the stall...

IMG_20231103_0756452.thumb.jpg.d452242c1e80a0f8ace3fd72cca7444c.jpg

Some long-ago kiddy gift set, comprising a cheapo plastic racing car and a handkerchief?

Think these milk bottles have missed their final collection.

And there was just time for a quick spin round the other stalls...

The Irish Tat Stall had plenty of Irish Tat, true to its USP:

IMG_20231103_0801132.thumb.jpg.cdec561899df0c65ee99ed0bd3120d71.jpg

Plus Oxford Fizzy-Drink related models, which apparently sell pretty well....

IMG_20231103_0801172.thumb.jpg.10787d71d667d4d9d32f5a9ce988f3cb.jpg

This Hong Kong oddity was nice, if a bit pricey:

IMG_20231103_0801322.thumb.jpg.9b4212e43032f5c37ae61c7304871f65.jpg

More Hot Wheels too, but only the same Premiums as before;

IMG_20231103_0801552.thumb.jpg.c0ca51f8c85266cfc7a9f7b409e57f7e.jpg

The Charity Stall had limited stuff of interest - other than some Rice Krispies which looked like they had indeed literally fallen off the back of a lorry, then been run over repeatedly:

IMG_20231103_0808232.thumb.jpg.b05fdf7dd8ef7682c9497be4ffcd5403.jpg

Appears that Father Christmas may have become Flatter Christmas in the same incident.

The only stuff with wheels was this high quality* playset, probably off the front of a comic:

IMG_20231103_0808292.thumb.jpg.e40b48ef8290243045e7d10a3e7139b4.jpg

Yes, quite. Scaling is apparently optional.

And hey - Alan was back!

IMG_20231103_0800402.thumb.jpg.9c660a5046baf35f6651e9b1d282751d.jpg

Brought us back some fantastic diecast treasures from your travels, then?

IMG_20231103_0759152.thumb.jpg.351bff4c0ff7e9e6eeb82bd6b208b3bb.jpg

Erm...

IMG_20231103_0800042.thumb.jpg.76384cae2c9769111f902250e18f24af.jpg

Not really, no.

IMG_20231103_0800072.thumb.jpg.1e675df112f7a32358ed604a36e92570.jpg

Ah. Never mind.

IMG_20231103_0759252.thumb.jpg.28f3dd2f4b5fae7f1992e8443797166b.jpg

Bobby Optimism, meanwhile, was still trying his luck with Lesneys and Corgis:

IMG_20231103_0753452.thumb.jpg.f921944459eba66109bbea21cdc83f65.jpg

OMG pricedrop bargains:

IMG_20231103_0753562.thumb.jpg.bfce0c024e9abbc5a329838f77c7fa96.jpg

Still a no from me, I'm afraid.

Dodge horsebox is priced at £18.

There's no helping some folk...

So that was about it for this week - not maybe the stuff of dreams, BUT I did come away with some stuff... will chuck up more pics when I get a minute!

A few arrivals for me.
Dinky Standard Atlas in decent shape.
Corgi Escort 55 van, weirdly with solid non opening rear doors. I thought they always opened on these? This one’s for stripping and painting!
3D printed Hot Wheels Escort replacement grills.
Hot Wheels Chevy Chevette, which I might have a go at removing the hood scoop etc and making a standard car out of.

IMG_2811.thumb.jpeg.b663ae37f7b3bba4da6336497eb17c4b.jpeg

IMG_2812.thumb.jpeg.308635dbb36c613d4b650ba3f0ea2fed.jpeg

And an update on the current project’s!

Volvo 240 estate. Body is fully painted and now just hardening off indoors for a while. It’s had a few coats of Volvo green blue metallic followed by a light buff up, then a coat of clear lacquer to get a shine.
It’s a really nice colour, especially on the rare occasion it’s sunny!

IMG_2814.thumb.jpeg.1f8a6a1e3c507dd80c397b1c9bf16dbe.jpeg

IMG_2815.thumb.jpeg.fdebec046df12aaccb77903d3a2d57e5.jpeg

And this!
A little project I started while waiting for supplies to arrive!
Matchbox Chevy Nova.  Really like these, although the Nova was originally meant as a standard smaller sedan so I’ve done this one as a stock base model car in beige (nato desert tan!) with satin varnish to give it a less matt look.

IMG_2813.thumb.jpeg.ed7b3a6e0738770aacc6e4dae0a2dd91.jpeg

I’ve done the interior in brown and now just need to pick out the details with a brush - lights, door handles etc etc. I’ve got a few of these so I’ll probably do some other colours too.

I think the later models didn't have opening doors. Probably cost cutting?

If you search Google and find a particular web page I found once there is/was someone that collected these vans and the number of variants was mind boggling!

Forgot about these ones!
Nobody bid on them so I took them. Don’t know why as I’ve got loads of the Capri’s, but the Imp is actually rather nice, and it’s in that lovely deep red Dinky seemed to like using.

IMG_2818.thumb.jpeg.c95823fac3132b9384fefef57670c08c.jpeg

Picked up a few from the shops over the last few days too.
These ones are actually duplicates of ones I already have so available if anyone fancies them?
If not they’ll go into the projects box!

I’ve got the Saab! Not quite as nice as that one mind.

I really like that red. It’s just a really nice shade. Reminds me of those old Xmas decorations!

MGA and Mini from Corgi requested by @FakeConcern

IMG_20231103_1039332.thumb.jpg.62b50aea8a61136eec1334ad4bedd4b6.jpg

Mini's lost an a-post and gained some Humbrol paint, but it's not too bad.

IMG_20231103_1039452.thumb.jpg.1445f617eb3da70a11d5adb6d9c80845.jpg

MGA very much a restoration project!

Haven't worked out what I paid for these yet - will do my sums over the weekend. It wasn't an awful lot, though.

Hadn't realised that the Consul Classic I procured on behalf of @Jon last week was, in fact, broken in quite a novel way I hadn't seen before. My fault for not looking closely enough.

IMG_20231103_1040392.thumb.jpg.4d47871ae464b9e4763108bc40dfa828.jpg

So here's a more complete example - plus I believe you were after this Farnham Zephyr?

IMG_20231103_1040512.thumb.jpg.ee2ed6146cc014afc6c5ef32f7c218e8.jpg

Think I managed to secure a slight discount - will let you know!

Phwoar! That's even better* than my ultra-cynical Royal Wedding edition!

Terribly disappointing that mine doesn't have the cheery bell, though. Does yours?

Slightly more authentic than the royal wedding one. Silver Jubilee buses did actually exist (25 of them, appropriately enough) but they were all Routemasters. I guess Lesney just had to make the best of the only double-deck bus casting they had.

Now @Datsuncog needs* to find Corgi's similar-scaled Jubilee Routemaster to go with it.

Adding lightness.

Colin Chapman would approve.

👌

I don't think he'd approve of sitting on a milk crate to drive though.

Might have to remortgage the house and do a bulk Flowers order

No, there's no bell on this one either sadly!

Lesney's own Project Drive of the late '70s must have seen it deleted...

I did have a mildly playworn one of these when I was a kid, but it's long gone now. Secondhand from a school fête's toy stall, I think.

Lancashire Triumph please Tim, if you decide not to keep it; I'm a Lancashire boy and remember them patrolling Southport!  Also, the green Austin van please.   My box must be approaching mailing weight now, surely?
