The local boot sale was cancelled due to wet ground today so we went to the Brighton Marina market. One stall with a few Corgi and Dinky toys I quite wanted, but £10 was above my budget so I passed on them. I did pick up the Riley and Gopping Hawk for £5 at another stall though.

On to Brighton junk shops and picked up a Super Kings Quattro missing one spot light and low suspension on one side and a late Corgi Unimog without suspension or mirrors for £2 each.

The Tonka Buggy and trailer were £1.

@eddyramrodI did see a Corgi Pacer with tailgate, but for £5 I left it, hope that's right? I'd have picked it up if £3 or less.

I'm not trying to get rid, but if anyone wants the Quattro, Hawk or Unimog for cost PM me.

I see early wheels on the Corgi Gopping Hawk. Is it with motor?

@FakeConcern Thank you, yes you did right.  That's more than donor money, I'd expect ready-to-display for that.  The transporter trailer I posted above is at 99p.  That's donor price.

Last of the small scale stuff going on the sales thread tonight - a mix of Hong Kong stuff with a few random bits like Siku Matchbox Darda and Majorette that I missed on the last batches - got a bunch of Hot Wheels too but you lot never seem that keen. I'll get em pictured anyway

In the mean time, look at this lovely display case that popped up on Reddit

@andrew e popped in yesterday to collect a Datsuncog delivery and the Sierra Sapphire I grabbed a few weeks ago. Of course that didn't mean a few less cars cluttering up the loft. Oh no.

Well, everyday's a school day! I was about to scoff and say that journalism isn't what it used to be etc. as there was no way a cash-strapped Dinky would've been churning out the Ford D series sweeper as late as 1979 (days before the Liverpool factory closed?) but a quick search proved me wrong!

126469m.JPG

^^ Gratuitous internet image grab, to show the jazzy* colour scheme of the final version. The 1979 factory photo shows a black base, whereas the '77 image is not black, so presumably silver instead, as seen on the more common orange cab/metallic green body version. Therefore, these versions had a relatively short run.

An eagle eye however may notice the cast shut doors, so cost measures were in place. And another 1/2p saved or whatever on one body colour, not two.

But a portion of that shaved cost was splurged somewhat, after the 1:1 scale version got a new grille for 1978:

Oosh! It's concurrently an accurate yet ham-fisted rendering of the real thing. These images are taken from a paint-faded but well documented version for sale on Ebay, by the way.

Screenshot_20231017_100205_FreeAdblockerBrowser.thumb.jpg.29a2e90dc390cd737a20b25032da3fc3.jpg

I was curious to see if any other aspects had been chopped but it seems like the sweeping mechanism fully remained in these late examples (I'll presume the funnel attached to the side is just MIA, after 43+ years of existence).

Anyway, a mild curiou from the dying days of Dinky. Does anyone have a facelift version?!

Sometimes you find a casting that is of absolutely no use at all,but you buy it because you feel sorry for it.

This is one of those.

Yeah they seem to really suffer. Still the only casting I've found actually holed by corrosion

First day for ages I’ve had any post. Let’s see what the postman has brought me!?

Oooof!!

IMG_2673.thumb.jpeg.f5cd5bfad11de18d30b3c936b2f388a4.jpeg

Matchbox Sierra (the BLUE one!!) and ovloV 240 from @sierraman as a part trade. Thanks, they’re perfect👍

And.
Spot-On Commer bank van! Or what’s left of one!
I’ve wanted one of these for a long time but they don’t seem particularly common, and they’re always expensive. So I promised myself I’d bag one if a cheap (enough!) one ever comes up. Well it has! I’d still admit I overpaid for it, but sometimes you have to just do it.

Ive already got a pair of new bumpers. It will need stripping and some repairs but since it’s a bit of a mess it’s not losing anything. I have a plan for it though, which will become clear once it’s fleet mates arrive later in the week…

Heh, I picked one of those No. 64 Fire Chiefs up a while ago from the market because it was super-clean, and even the base looked factory-fresh - but no, it's not a casting I have a great deal of affection for either.

I can recall playing with a kid down the road called Wayne when I was maybe five or six; we were in his front garden messing about with various toys and I found one of these lying in a flowerbed.

As a fairly serious child, I took a great deal of pride in knowing 'all' the cars on the road, so this one absolutely infuriated me because not only did I not recognise it, but it just looked wrong - why did it have cooling vents on the bonnet and on the back of the bootlid? Was it front engined or rear engined? If it was rear engined, why was the bonnet so long? It made no sense. And there was nothing on the base to help me out either.

The Stretcha Fetcha and Soopa Coopa gave me similar conniptions; I also seem to recall arguing passionately that the Stretcha Fetcha must be a real vehicle, since the model carried a valid-looking UK style number plate.

Ah, the things you remember.

Plus, looking back I can see that I was a weird kid.

I was the same and largely ignored the fictitious Superfast and Superkings castings, in spite of their realistic number plates.

For example, how good would the Battle Kings Shell breakdown Truck have looked with a Bedford TM front end instead ofnthat hideous concoction with headlights that looked like domestic interior light switches.
