Not sure what it is about the upmarket postcodes, but people sure tend to hang on to their tat!

One car I didn't manage to get a picture of is something really special - a Ford Taunus 26M RS, Dagenham-converted to RHD, old H reg, sat for 15 years but kept running and tested, in magnificently shabby Berlin-cab-beige. Completely shagged condition. On Carnwath Road SW6 if anybody's keen to take a look.

Superb work! London always seems to throw up giffer taped shite often in quite upmarket surroundings

Posted

Bloody hell!, There's some pretty impressive stuff there!, That R12 Estate is mighty shite!

Posted

London is certainly a paradox: High rent houses with low rent cars parked outside. :D

Wow, I have been exploring through tons of SW London andI only recognise a few of those, that first one is a Toyota right?! Never seen one before, what model is it? The Taunus you describe, I know what it looks like, saw it around a year ago...

Also, that white Yugo is amazing! Seriously think London is the only place with Yugos still in daily use, I know of another two on the road and taxed...

That's a Sultan - a car so shite nothing about it exists on the internet.

I'm guessing somebody made it in their bedroom and that it's one of a kind.

Here it is again on Google Street View:

Yep - an A-reg Carina, in Worlds End just off the Kings Road. Yugo is always parked up by the high rise flat just behind Vincent Square. That is indeed the Taunus!

There's a few more I'll try and find on my computer - recall snapping two unbelievably shoddy Renault 4s at some point.

Glad you enjoyed the photos!

Love the Taunus! natty aftermarket accessories, primer all over the shop and the ultimate shite mod- underseal tidemark on the cill/ doors. Epic!

 Wow! I always assumed the rich capital was fairly shite-free.

What is the first picture? The Jap silver thing? :?

Wow, it must be at least 467 years since I saw a Mk1 Fiesta with a Mk2 bootlid, they used to be such a common sight "back in the day" (how I loathe that phrase).

Really like these old Saabs

IMG00024-20120704-1908.jpg

Good patina on this giffer Morris. Always like to see white plates on something this old - used to be a common feature back in the day

Though I did miss a white Mercedes 1000SEL convertible cruising down the Kings Road today. It was proof that oil sheikhs are actually natural born shiters.

Great photos. Amazed there is all that down there still. Cant even find that much chod up here.

I think that's a 3rd gen Ford Mustang but am ready to be corrected.

Posted

Mr Imp is correct. The Mustang is the 1979-on "Fox" platform, which was used with only detail changes for many years and then in a new skin for several more. I nearly bought a grey one very much like the white one shown, a few years ago: RHD, 3.3 straight-six auto. Can't think why I didn't really, but I believe it went to Ireland in the end.

A few more....

On the Fulham Road - crusty but excellent

feba721b.jpg

I wonder whether these are going OMG SCENE these days. Suspicious amounts of them driven by trendy types. I've had to stop snapping 2CVs for this reason - that is, unless they're total and utter sheds.

Great patina, and one of the earliest I think? Haven't seen another C reg Supercinq in donkey's. This was apparently registered on 1 December 1985.

Magnificent stuff, keep it up - I love the diversity of off-the-wall motors you get in London side streets. Just as an aside, why do they consider it necessary to put sleeping policemen in parking bays (like under under the ragtop Saab)? Is it to stop you from parking too quickly or just to piss off sinking Citroen owners?

Posted

I se you've been nosing around the SW1 area near Victoria. Did some shite spotting around there sometime time last year.

Yep it's quite a fruitful area. About 2 years ago there was a delightfully non-scene giffer-owned 1976 Audi 80 on the same street. Now sadly gone.

As was this Saab jut behind Sloane Square

IMG00075-20121021-1517.jpg

Haven't seen this 2-door before.

An old favourite, this Volvo is looking much the worse for wear. Fulham

IMG00085-20121104-1209.jpg

Best till last - an unbelievably crusty Anglia keeping the Volvo company. Particular fan of the rear wing.

Thanks for putting these up, I myself did some spotting around London recently. I need to find the time to put them up, hopefully after next week should provide me some ample time.

Have you ever seen the Elan +2 parked in Brixton?

Posted

Speaking from experience, it's almost impossible to reverse an Anglia into something because a) you can turn round and see straight out the back and B) those pointy fins tell you exactly where the back of the car is.

Elan +2 in Brixton? Is it yellow covered with a bit of tree detritus? If it is, I'd lay my money on it being one of the two that are usually parked up on Croxted Road.

IMG00004-20120224-1304.jpg

I don't know why, but I really like this. Obviously there are plenty of rare knackers on this thread, but this Cav (ok, I know it's a 'Scona ;)) just works for me. They were everywhere back in the day, and you just don't see them any more. Possibly one of the least valued or cared for cars on this thread, but a real pleasure to drive. I shared the driving of my mate's old 1981 1.6 Cav in hearing aid beige all the way from Cornwall to MK to see REM in 1995. It flew and was a cracking car. I was particularly disappointed to hear about a week after returning with no issues, the old barge had been dragged to the knackers yard due to the fact the rear beam had decided to separate itself from the floorpan due to what transpired to be epic rot. Shame.

Quality pictures, wish there was that much chod here in Ireland, shitetastic :)

That's the one - it's been there for at least 10 years to my memory. There's a often second one parked nose-to-nose with it and they both cycle between looking barely roadworthy and dumped. Occasionally one of them will be sitting on four flat tyres. There's a white Amazon parked down that road too. It always used to look a bit shagged until one day a bus or a truck had driven over the back, crushed all the boot down and smashed all the side in. I was amazed to see it back there a few months later, but fully repaired and looking a lot better for it.
