Do you own the oldest daily smoker where you live?

We do! the E36 is now 17 years old, being first registered in 1995 on a 'M' plate. There are a few 'R' and 'S' platers in our road, but the trusty old 3 series is the oldest. Since being acquired back in 2007 the only time it failed to work was when the starter motor gave up about 2 years back, other than that the only other bits that have been replaced are the front struts, rear trailing arm bushes (a favourite on these, now running poly bushes) exhaust system, rear brake lines and tyres/consumable service items. It gets serviced every 6 months, and mileage is just about 173,000. Who needs new/nearly new cars!

Mine are the two oldest in the road. Next nearest is an L reg 205 diesel, owned by an old woman that chucks out an impressive level of blue smoke every time she drives off

No. In my apartment complex, there's a guy who owns a shitetastic F-reg 3-series cabrio in slightly faded red. There's also an old MR2 that often parks near where I do. It almost feels like my car is too new, and looks even newer than it is since it only got registered 17 months after it was made!

Mine are old but not the oldest in my street, I get second place here with my 74 capri! A couple of doors down theres a nice 1969 morris minor which is the oldest still in use. But a few doors the other way is a 1966 volvo amazon sat rotting on a drive, shame really, ive never seen it move since ive lived here.

without a doubt!

Oldest other car is a 97 Pug 106 and that is newer than my newest car (96 Mondeo)

My 88 daily Bluebird and 84 Escort are older than the houses are!

Nope. My current daily smoker is the Rover of Doom, which is R reg. Lass down the other end of the road has an F-plate Nova as her daily, and somebody a bit further down has a P-reg 106. Most of the rest is newer though - think the next oldest is the S-reg Scenic (automatic and, amazingly, still driving) owned by the family over the road.

Yes, my car is the oldest in the street, next oldest is a Red Polo on a 'J' plate (I think) I've always had the oldest car apart from when I had my Mk2 N-reg Sterling on the road.

My 1986 Audi 100 was easily the oldest but since I bought the J reg Volvo 240 someone has got hold of a circa 1988 Peugeot 205 GTI, but its dead so doesn't count.

Out of my immediate neighbours, then yes - though one couple own a Mk3 Golf and a Mitsubishi Pajero Jnr, neither of which are exactly new and both of which I like.

Around here though, there's quite a bit of ol' shite still in use. Haven't seen any Series Landies in use, but there are a few pre-Defender 90s and Daihatsu Fourtraks about.

Some of the time

The BX is the daily at the moment and is a year younger than a mk2 Golf GTI and the same age as the older of two mk2 MR2's with owners club stickers that turned up a few months back.

During the summer the 1100 was the daily and the oldest on the estate by nearly 20 years.

I am fairly confident that my Safari is the oldest daily use car in the whole village, population 2783 in the 2001 census*

*I found out about the population by google sending me to a German site citypopulation.de. Hmmm, what are they up to now?

Nope, my car is way too new. There's an L reg merc E-class, cavalier 2.016v, Honda Concerto Auto, M reg Micra, MK3 Golf and occasionally a gaffer tape Mondeo.

I'm almost embarrassed to say no! Where I live is mostly made up of 2.4 children types with the usual suspects for motors but the couple over the road have an M-reg Rover 200 Diesel which is going strong. Makes my T-reg Starlet look positively brand new!!

Nearlt. Bloke next door to us has a 1999 Toyota Picnic which refuses to die, next is my 2002 Rover 25. There was a man who had a 93 Proton Aero (the original one whatever it was called), but he now has a 2007 Kia. There was also a P reg Fiesta (97?) but it got towed for no tax, assumed fragged. When I was 19, out of the 12 houses that were then in my Mum & Dad's street, 7 had a mark 4 Escort, one of which was mine. The chap who lived in the end house was the Carrickfergus Harbour Pilot, and he, his wife, his father and mother in law all went to the Ford dealer on the same day and bought 4 brand new cars, with a very impressive discount: 2 x Sierra XR4x4, 2 x Escort 1.6LX. That's the way to do it alright!

Most definitely. 1970 Land Rover rattling around is me! The next oldest I see regularly is my mate's Morris Wedge.... I used to drive my 1961 Land Rover, but it rotted like a rotten thing, on a wet Wednesday. That sits in pieces, awaiting a large cash injection. There is a Morris Minor Van working for a Gas Company, called, imaginitively, The Gas Company... not seen it this Winter yet though. Everyone else round here has 90s stuff at the oldest. I still have the 82 Land Rover and the 89 Sapphire at home too.... When I tell people I run a J plate, they think it's old at 21.... I was offered "an R Reg Land Rover" the other day... and I immediately thought 1977ish, does this make me old?

Yep! My 1990 L200 pickup is a whole 6 years older than the next newest, an absolutely immaculate renault 5 on an N reg, owned by an unfathomably old man :)

Sure thing!

_MG_0974.jpg

1993 L reg Xantia 1.9TD that has performed 100% for the last 5 months - it's almost earned its sticker..

I'd have been trumped by the bloke who lives 2 up as he has a Type 1 Landy and a Bay window camper (both complete but off the road) and his Frontera is just a bit younger than the Xantia.

My CX at 34 would win if it was presently in use..

yup. my volvo 740 is the oldest in the street by some margin. a guy close by owns a B reg XR4i and a 60's 105E but those are definitely not daily smokers. despite the town being a craphouse of a place, most of the populace are either commuters with new company cars, others with motorpoint/carcraft specials or people on disability with brand new mobility cars.

No, sadly not any more. Altho' in fairness, at least half the folk in our street are natural 'shiters! One neighbour's got a P-plate Civic which is slowly dissolving in front of our eyes - the frilly 'speed holes' in the front of the bonnet should be watched nature documentary stylee, in time-lapse photography. Ditto the sills, and self-destructing exhaust.

Another neighbour has/had a P-plate Rover 220D, which is currently in the care of his garage-owning nephew having its' extensive rust removed over the winter. He's smoking around in a V-plate Civic, scored from an emigrating mate for pennies, and his wife's T-plate Pug 106d. He likes the Civic well enough, but resents filling the tank more than once a month...

After the bloke with the Stag and the M100 Elan moved out, the oldest regular visitor by some distance, is another neighbour's daughter's N-plate 106 Inca. It's in lovely nick, and it's just nice to see one looking well for its' age.

One of the families round the corner, used to be epic 'shiters (ex-PO Escort 55 van painted Dulux exterior yellow with rollers, anyone?), but they've taken to seeing how far they can push a car warehouse purchased 55-plate Laguna. Amazingly, it's still going after a couple of years of total neglect and abuse!

S'funny, I don't consider the Xantia to be old at all as I don't 'see' its age. Until it's in a crap park and parked between 2 news. The other day a 60-plate Corsa and a 59-plate Benz thing, both of these dwarfed the medium-size xantia and their swoopy giant headlights made the Xant look REALLY dated.

Usually! :D And proud of it too. Over here I can't really say I do, as I don't use my 40-year-old Granada daily, and the pickup is only 10 years old, but before we left UK I was driving a 1987 Volvo 740 estate, so that was 22 years old. It was definitely the "daily" as my other car was a then-47-y-o Cadillac! Nobody in my road was using anything as old as the Volvo, nor anyone at work. I like that. I take a pride in keeping an old car going way past the point when others would trade it in, scrap it, whatever. Someone has to love the cheap old 20-year-old cars now, so that in 20 years, there will be 40-year-old classics to admire.

My 1990 Sierra is older than everything else in the estate (120 units or so) except for an old Portuguese guy who has a prefacelift mk1 Fiesta, legend.

Yes, by far, my car being a 1990. The guy across the road came close with his J plate Proton (true shite) but he recently got himself a positively decadent Y reg Clio so now mine is the undisputed champion. In fact apart from the odd mk2 Golf and Pug 205, I dont think I've got much competition in our entire town...

Nope.

Despite me running a 93 on a K Saab 900, I'm beaten by an old bloke who runs an F reg Transit motorhome, which is not only wonderfully shite but has a petrol engine and not an oil burner. He reckons when it's running right it does about 18mpg!

Next oldest is a P plate Clio Mk1.

I think the oldest car on my street is a 51 plate Picasso owned by my mates (who have suddenly taken temporary ownership of the DAF). That's a fair bit newer than any of my cars. The newest one is the 1986 Audi 100.

The neighbours were all looking out the windows today as the Lancia arrived to see what piece of shit I have landed on their road this time. I think they were pleasantly surprised. Photos will be put up as work commences.

My '97R 825 and my parents '97R Ka share the oldness honours, beaten into a tin hat when my Girlfriend shows up in her '95N 306. Mind you, this is a cul de sac with only seven houses in it, so not exactly rich pickings.

I'm about to move into a cul de sac with about 20 houses in it, including a SIIA Land Rover. Camera on standby.
