Shite of the future: 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Let's be honest we can't deny that at some point in our lives we've all sat in our cars thinking "If only my 3 door hatchback had a back door, but only 1, a matching pair would just be overkill" - well folks your prayers have been answered I give you the Hyundai Veloster

Now for the Futureshite test:

1. From the far east - check

2. Stupid name - check

3. Different number of doors on each side - check

4. Back seats only suitable for people with no legs/head - check

But I'll have to deduct a point for them announcing that they are actually going to produce different bodys for left and right hand drive markets

A truimph of "style" over any practical considerations whatsoever

Hyundai Motor & Roast Labrador Concern UK website says "Model shown is left hand drive. UK version includes rear door on passengers side."

Take note, BMW.

Aye, the Urba had the door on the correct side for RHD, but I believe the concept was modelled by Ford UK so I would imagine there were no LHD models produced.

Actually looks quite cool and has a lot of features that were ahead of the times - front parking sensors, heated/cooled glove box and a push-button gearbox.

F800SWC never made it as far as the DVLA though.....

I have just followed a blue one down I4 towards Tampa. Reminded me of the CRX in some ways....mainly size I suppose

Puts me in mind of this for some reason:

Aah, the Renault Wind if I'm not mistaken.

I'd almost forgotten about these.

Now while I am a hater of idiot big wheels/rims, I'd forgotten how small the 12's looked on this.

I think this concept was a jokey reference to car assembly line urban legends.

I quite like the fact that Hyundai are obviously pressing both 2-door and 1-door panels for both the LHD and RHD cars so could quite easily offer a standard 2 and and 4 door configuration car without any extra tooling. But don't.

Am I the only one that thought the title said "molester"........?

Having clocked one in the metal for the first time this week my immediate first thought was 'could I get the factory to special-order one with the same number of doors both sides?' ... my second thought being 'fuck that' on seeing that the list price was TWENTY GRAND.

Their ex demo ix20 was £12k too. Budget brand no longer

I bring you the Hyundai Minica Lettuce

Ummm, I dont think so -- early Multispazzes were 3 door, like early Discovery's

From that pic, I think it's quite a bonny thing, and certainly got a bit of Datsun and CRX in it. Can't imagine I'd ever actually want one though.

Talking of futureshite, what about the Suzuki Kizashi:

I like them and they're supposed to be well made and good to drive, but £22K ish? :?

Amongst my Thai spots I have pictures of four door versions of the Suzuki WagonR and Mitsubishi RVR - each with two doors one one side, one on the other.

The Mitsubishi Space Runner had one sliding door IIRC

1007 - Worst door configuration ever. GR14 for getting your shopping nicked.

I really like these  . But at that money the Astra GTC is probably a lot better value and better to drive - CAR - who annoying kept saying 'despite being a Vauxhall ..' all the time- judged it was better than Scirocco.

Nice to see a Korean firm can do LHD/RHD - as said above, BMW, if you do build a wanky Clubman Mk2, take note. It is ostensibly meant to be a British  brand after all!

Wonder if Hyundai did the RHD tooling spend with the UK, Australia/NZ or Japan in mind?

I've past a orange one a few times outside the local Hyundai garage, I really like them, I even ordered the brochure of their website to perv over.

The whole of the Hyundai range looks proper nice now i think, The new i30 is really pretty as well with it's Audi style interior, the new i40 estate is smart as well.

The Koreans (with the exception of the GM crap) have really upped their game in the past few years.

They really are starting to look like a threat to the Japanese dominance in many markets.

Who'd have thought 10 years ago that anybody would actually aspire to owning a KIA or Hyundai product not to mention even 5 years ago?

I think the days of the severely depreciated uased KIA or Hyundai are coming to a close soon....bloody shame!

I had a good run on the Japanese stuff when the majority thought they were crap (and were not!) and the game is almost up on the cheap Korean tat too - bah!

I'll have to wait for the Chinese to step into the market for good future deals I suppose - might be a few years for that of course!

Some of their new shite seems comically over-priced too!

The Malaysians have been very quiet on the value front and seem to have dropped out of the game...perish the thought of buying something British or European

I had a Hyundai i40 come towards me the other day and I have to say that it's one of the best looking cars on the market at the minute. I thought it was the new Mondeo or something and was well shocked when I saw the badge. Well done, Hyundai, the days of the XG30 seem long gone.

I chuckle when I see a Peugeot 1007. I feel I'm quite close to actually being subject of the laughs myself... They're very cheap!

Saw a TV advert for these and couldn't really work out what it was trying to be....Looks minging too, but I expect they have European designers now, like the KIA C, apostrophe, EED.

Seeing crap like this makes me really wish I had the Hyundai Pony pick-up that Caistor salvage used to keep their oxy-acetylene gear in. It was summer 1992 and they gas-axed the back end off a Renault 20 (FBE 222Y) for me. Happy days. :D:D

The Perodua Myvi I rented last year in Malaysia was every bit as well-made as my mum's Sirion. The top-spec version, which includes leather seats, is available brand new in the UK for just £8,399!

PHWOARR!

Aye the GTC looks fantastic. Not sure it'll be much cop to drive though.

I still think the 3 door is a stupid idea. I preferred what mazda did with the rx-8.

I'd have an XG30.
