After a break for Mrs Ruff and I's 5th wedding anniversary, we had a quick hop from Lincolnshire to Leicestershire to have a peep at a car I'd seen for sale.

I'd emailed well over a week ago, and finally got a reply. Needless to say it isn't a perfect example, but it hasn't been messed about with, has had 4 new (budget) tyres on it as well as 8 months ticket.

I'm looking forward to collecting it next week now, likely with the help of @skattrd of this parish...

Where in Leicestershire? I'm in Leics, and off all week. Shout up if you need any help with collection

Just occurred to me that I could apply for a maintenance loan for my next year of uni while I'm living at home, and buy and insure some shite with the proceeds.

How (un)common are E28 520s and 518s? Or is that too silly an idea?

If he does I genuinely don't care. I've never had such an awkward relationship with a car before and I'm actually relieved to not own it anymore. It was never a bad car, but it was also never the right car for me.

Isn't that strange. Same feeling I had with it. Never quite bonded with the xantia, I find them very much a tool.

Still part of me would like it back to check but I know that within a week I would want to sell it again.

That loan will hang over you for years, my advice don't do it.

Sorry to sound like grumpy old Grandad who just wants to spoil the fun but long after the car is gone the loan will still be there. Save up by drinking less!

I never bonded with my Xantia estate either, even though I loved the hatchback I had before it.

NEVER get into debt over a manky old car. Or any car, come to think of it.

Learn the lesson from those of us who made bad financial choices in the past.

all in, quite a good afternoon, I picked up a few mx5 parts while I was there :)

I reckon that 760 could be a little too tempting for the SVM to forego. Mild barrying (colour coded bumpers), early reg madness and most importantly, will have early swirly font rear badges like this:

In fact, could this even be a 760 Turbo for extra win?

Anyone seen the new McVities advert?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re-Bqup7mGo

Loving the car at the beggining of the ad.

Could that be a V70R?

Certainly got R wheels.

Errr.. NO!

But did rofl @ Walkers crisps - the starlift man.

The joke is a stormer but as usual makes a bigger laugh the first time.

Fun continues on the A4 - a misfire appeared the other day, but now it's gone.

Number 3 spark plug is a pig to get to, fuel rails get in the way of it.

Being a quattro, it has the factory sports suspension option (30mm lower?).

It's had the rear springs replaced at some point, and nobody makes reproduction sport suspension, so it probably has standard rear springs and sits noticeably nose-down.

If anyone knows of or sees a B5 A4 quattro in a breakers (doesn't matter what engine), we need a selection of parts. If it's a silver one, even better.

Fired up my old Panasonic Toughbook laptop to move it into the garage. I love it but it has a small screen which is not ideal, and I have in the past tried linking it up with my large Acer flatscreen monitor with no luck. Looked around the web to install some (what I thought were missing) drivers, when I saw than if I attached the cable and pressed "fn" and "f3" it would work. And it did!

As it runs Windows xp, I got rid of Internet Explorer and installed Firefox which doesn't seem to different from IE. Seems that it is not worth upgrading to Windows 10 (or 7 or 8). Only use it to go onto the net and for storing pdf manuals and a Triumph ecu tuning program, so no more support for XP should not be a problem.

A very productive hour spent getting it up and running after so long, added to which I am a computer numpty.

£495 is too salty. It's got no test, the PRV V6 and is bastardised. Also UPI are a shower of robbing shitehawk bastards (can you tell I've had issues there?). £200 is about right for it.

TBH the 121 tickles my fancy more but even that is pushing it at £375.

I've got 3 929's. Not one like that though, although I'm sure I could find a use for the engine and box outta that one (if I could be arsed). It looks a bit of a sorry sight alright

Recently I have had major beef with my Cortina.

It has some sort of fuel starvation issue, sometimes I'm driving along and the car just conks out and tries to keep running but never manages, I get out, take the fuel pipe of the feed side of the pump and blow in the filler till fuel comes out and it will run fine no problem.

The most annoying part is I have changed pretty much every logical thing.

New mechanical fuel pump

Replaced that with electric fuel pump

Cleaned out fuel tank thoroughly

Changed fuel pipe to a new solid copper one

Fitted a new filter to tank sender pickup, also tried removing it altogether

I have recently fitted a weber dcd but it did it before I swapped this on so I'm ruling it out.

Anyone got any suggestions as I'm getting pissed off.

Sigh... Went with mate_chap to assist in buying his new car, the '07 Suzuki Swift 1.2 Diesel. As mate isn't passed yet and onky a provisional licence holder, I've been the mug who has been sitting with him all day as he goes around driving like a loon showing off his new car to our mates.

I don't mind really, saves me using the Merc and making my excuses later on when I can't be arsed. At least I'm being driven around.

The car itself isn't bad, he's definitely got a bargain, it has a few lady-parking dents in it but nowt that can't be sorted. Its a good colour, Black, has boy-racer stripes over the roof and bonnet and a good stereo to boot. Man, these learner drivers have it all these days.

I drove it again today briefly and it honestly isn't a bad little thing. Well done to him. Hopefully this'll spur him to finally pass his test.
