Fired up my old Panasonic Toughbook laptop to move it into the garage. I love it but it has a small screen which is not ideal, and I have in the past tried linking it up with my large Acer flatscreen monitor with no luck. Looked around the web to install some (what I thought were missing) drivers, when I saw than if I attached the cable and pressed "fn" and "f3" it would work. And it did!

As it runs Windows xp, I got rid of Internet Explorer and installed Firefox which doesn't seem to different from IE. Seems that it is not worth upgrading to Windows 10 (or 7 or 8). Only use it to go onto the net and for storing pdf manuals and a Triumph ecu tuning program, so no more support for XP should not be a problem.

A very productive hour spent getting it up and running after so long, added to which I am a computer numpty.

I reckon that 760 could be a little too tempting for the SVM to forego. Mild barrying (colour coded bumpers), early reg madness and most importantly, will have early swirly font rear badges like this:

In fact, could this even be a 760 Turbo for extra win?

£495 is too salty. It's got no test, the PRV V6 and is bastardised. Also UPI are a shower of robbing shitehawk bastards (can you tell I've had issues there?). £200 is about right for it.

TBH the 121 tickles my fancy more but even that is pushing it at £375.

I've got 3 929's. Not one like that though, although I'm sure I could find a use for the engine and box outta that one (if I could be arsed). It looks a bit of a sorry sight alright

Recently I have had major beef with my Cortina.

It has some sort of fuel starvation issue, sometimes I'm driving along and the car just conks out and tries to keep running but never manages, I get out, take the fuel pipe of the feed side of the pump and blow in the filler till fuel comes out and it will run fine no problem.

The most annoying part is I have changed pretty much every logical thing.

New mechanical fuel pump

Replaced that with electric fuel pump

Cleaned out fuel tank thoroughly

Changed fuel pipe to a new solid copper one

Fitted a new filter to tank sender pickup, also tried removing it altogether

I have recently fitted a weber dcd but it did it before I swapped this on so I'm ruling it out.

Anyone got any suggestions as I'm getting pissed off.

Sigh... Went with mate_chap to assist in buying his new car, the '07 Suzuki Swift 1.2 Diesel. As mate isn't passed yet and onky a provisional licence holder, I've been the mug who has been sitting with him all day as he goes around driving like a loon showing off his new car to our mates.

I don't mind really, saves me using the Merc and making my excuses later on when I can't be arsed. At least I'm being driven around.

The car itself isn't bad, he's definitely got a bargain, it has a few lady-parking dents in it but nowt that can't be sorted. Its a good colour, Black, has boy-racer stripes over the roof and bonnet and a good stereo to boot. Man, these learner drivers have it all these days.

I drove it again today briefly and it honestly isn't a bad little thing. Well done to him. Hopefully this'll spur him to finally pass his test.

In actual news, met Richard down the pub last night after he emailed me from the pub. Which I was standing in. Volvo-based antics tomorrow. Nice.

In other news, met Rory and enjoyed a steer in his Honda Insight. As you can see, there will be vids aplenty coming up.

However, getting back into the XM, the ride didn't feel hugely better than the too-firm Insight. I think I really need to get some of the spheres swapped out. I'm not actually sure how many it has. Four corner suspension, two middle suspension, accumulator, anti-sink. Is that it? Perhaps I should look.

Good news, bad news.

Good news, the boring has now done 200 miles since I replaced the turbo and a few other bits and nothing has kerploded. All the oil has so far remained in the engine as well. This made me happy.

Bad news, I've found out where the fuel on my drive came from, it's the Merc, it may need a new fuel tank, along with the MOT being due at the end of next month. This makes me sad.

Today I learned that the garage needs to get the internet and at least one computer sorted for this online MOT bollocks. I shall also need to teach my non-tech savvy mechanic how to use the new system, which I haven't seen yet. This means my plan to do some work on the Honda this week just went out of the window.

I had a fiesta that had been off the road for years and it did that..........turned out to be the pick up pipe corroded and stuffed with corrosion bits from inside of tank. Was extremely frustrating to find.........it physically hurts me to buy new parts (petrol pump) for no fix!

Or the car is tricking you and it's the condenser!

Anyone know what these seats are originally fitted to? Not an R4 obviously but I rather do like them I'm thinking Peugeot / Citroen.

Probably a brake one too if the cx is anything to go by.

That fabric is making me think BX for some reason. No real idea though

The plastic back looks like bx, but i don't recognise the pattern.

Another vote for bx, I'm thinking gti. If they are, they're super comfy.

Old car related mechanical waffling...

Well that went well. On the way to work this morning the side rocker cover gasket decided that being removed and re fitted yesterday was far to much for its delicate constitution and decided to distain from its one and only job. For a two litre four, it really does, or more accurately did, contain a lot of oil. An extra gallon saw me the extra two miles to work where it sits forlornly marking its teratory. Judging by the mark, it wants to own most of the yard.

Where can I get a side rocker cover gasket for a 1956 Rover 60? Believe it or not two places near me. One in Stourbridge (about 6miles away) and the other in Cannock (about 12 miles) both in stock and for less than a tenner.

RESULT! Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow?

Yeah they are deffo BX and they are the most comfortable seats ever fitted to a car. That is an unusual trim pattern but at least one BX for sale in the last couple of months had the same style fitted.

My first blowout. I always took the piss out of people who have them cos I assumed they must have just been driving round on flat tyres for ages. Anyway this one was checked 80 miles before and went from 'hmm, something feels strange, I'll pull over as soon as I can' to explosion in about 500 yards. 2 hours from home in the camper. The spare is older than me so I darent do any miles on it.

In desperation I tried kwikfit and ats but they both wanted £150+. Ended up getting a pair fitted for just over a ton by some mega careful bloke who even went online to check the torque settings for a Porsche 996 and a vw t25 to decide which to do them to.

That sounds like one of those things that would make me deeply hate a car. Y U DONT WANNA BE DRIVEN?

My only suggestion is an air lock somewhere, but I would have thought a leccy pump would be enough to overcome that (maybe not) and I dunno why it would happen multiple times, or what the actual cause is. Useful advice!

My fuel sender is a bit shit but it's clear, I shoved some mig wire through it when the tank was out, shame as that would have been an easy fix.
Also accuspark m9.

It's getting on my tits, it's a lot faster with the new carb, cam and exhaust and great to drive except this happens so I can't really drive it for fear of getting stuck on a busy roundabout and being forced to look like a complete tosser blowing in the fuel filler.

The electric pump was a low pressure one for carbs so I didn't need a pressure regulator, I think the mechanical pump is higher pressure haha.

Does the pickup tube look okay there's no rust pin holes in it sooking air? There's no plastic pipe in the system at all that could be collapsing?

Chronic power steering leak put the disco off the road about 15 months ago. It was on the high pressure side and replacing pipes meant radiator removal and other annoying things plus lack of arsedness equals SORN.

With the 109 playing up and my need for a towing mule, I set about the disco.

Air box, radiator, intercooler all removed. I didn't have a skinny enough spanner for the fan but lots of swearing and skinned knuckles later...

New pipes were £130.

Refit was the reverse of removal including blood and sweary words. I H9 springy coolant hose pipe clips. Jubilee much better.

No leakage now but the steering pump is noisy. Hopefully it's just some air in the system.
