Help with a Top gear thread

I'm told that a car (I might be acquiring) appeared in Top Gear- several years back. I'm trying to find as much info on it as poss- and wondered if the 'Autoshite collective' could find it for me?

 

Its a Lada 1500, S plate, dark brown. Not seen daylight in at least 7 years, prob 10. The Executors claim the Little old lady owner had a lovely day out with the Top Gear team -& Mr Clarkson was really nice too her. It was apparently included in televised filming.

 

Can anyone find it -please?

I don't really remember that. Was it new or old top gear?

In the communist cars one they had a white Riva but that's the only one I can remember

I dont know. Clarkson (as opposed to Woollard etc) suggests new -but I dont recall it either- & cant find any thread.

 

But it does seem unlikely that she'd have lied about it. Almost certainly going to have to offer blind -but thought it might help if someone recalled it. Even the registration would help!!

The only Lada I can remember appearing on the new Top Gear is the one they had fettled by Lotus - but that was black and silver (in the style of a Lotus Sunbeam) by the time they'd finished with it.

 

It wouldn't be a car that's appeared in one of Clarkson's annual DVDs (always out in time for Christmas) would it? The seller might have just assumed it was for Top Gear due to the presence of old Brillo bonce and a camera crew.

I recall an episode of TG where Clarkson bought a Lada then sold it to a Russian at the docks. Perrty sure he (JC) had driven it to the docks himself and was laughing at the build quality of the car. It's possible he spoke to other owners about the cars but it was such a time ago I can't remember sorry.

I couldnt find it -but the Executors are attempting to use it to boost the proposed selling price. If it happened-I cant find any record.

Was there a Lada feature on Old Top Gear maybe presented by Chris Goffey? I think it featured a guy with one of the first Ladas ever sold in the UK, which still had its complete tool kit.

I remember this too Cav, But it was Quentin Wilson who did this feature. He bought a Lada somewhere in the midlands, Warwick or Leamington Spa I think, and drove it up to Hull (It would probably have come through Hull originally as well) where there was an outfit that was buying Ladas and shipping them back out to Russia. I think it was because in the early 90s there was a shortage of new Ladas in Russia, and conversion to LHD from RHD made little financial impact due to this demand. Also, Parts for the conversions where easy to get hold of, and I think maybe UK Ladas were a bit better 'specced'.

Old TG had a look at communist cars, took the pee but didn't wreck anything. Clarkson didn't do it though, I think it was Steve Berry(?).

 

New TG had the beige Lada vs. Marina race with May and Clarkson.

 

They are both one Youtube somewhere, I will try to find the old one if I can, maybe there's a brown Lada in it.

Did they do one with that souped up Lada? Some bloke had spent 20k on it? It had not featured on there as a comparison had it. IIRC the guys Lada was beige.

Sadly, it now seems they've initiated a bidding war for a car that no one's seen, with an iffy provenance.

It'd be different if it was that lotus lada but it seems a bit tenuous to try to start a bidding war on a Lada that may or may not have been in a Jeremy Clarkson Betamax video in the 90's.
