A couple of humans this cat owns lent me a trailer so that myself and Signor Bollox could go and collect his Maserati from SOC's place oop Norf.

So, a few hours after hitching the trailer up to the Heep we were up in County Durham with a nice brew.

This bus went past.

Hmm, knackered bonnet.

SOC removed rusty bonnet.

A5 removed grille from rusty bonnet whilst the rest of us fitted the new one supplied with the car.

I then towed it back to where the cat lives, and Mr B. towed it the short hop home. A grand day out indeed.

nice to meet you today pete & mr b

Was a fun day. I suspect M. Bolleaux was a tad too excited to take many photos.

Good to meet you lot an' all. :)

He did look really, really excited! Yeah, was a good day. We didn't fix qwerty's Arosa, but it does have new oil and filters now even if it won't actually start most of the time (and sounds as though it's going to explode when it does).

A5, I'm pretty sure Mandy always looks like that!

Hey all! I've had a freakin ace day today, I must say. The whole operation went swimmingly..... i've met loads of mega sound geezers, heard some class choonz (through my 1.5 working ears), done a bit of a-framing, the sun was shining throughout, and I ended up with a class new motor.

As Pete says, I was a bit too excited to take loads of photos today.

Tihs car is spectacularly ace, i love it unconditionally already. Its got some rust problems like:

But, it runs beautifully and drives very nicely, is honest and seems to be quite fixable really. As soon as I got in it and had a little blezz down SOC Avenue i felt right at home in it, i love the look of it, the sound, the image, the story behind it, and the general shiteness of it as a whole. I cant wait to get my mig welder on it! it will have to wait till the Avenger is out the garage though.

Even Ms_Bo11ox likes it, I think thats the first car I have ever bought that she has shown even a microbe-sized amount of enthusiasm for! Good job, as she'll have to look at it through the kitchen window for a couple of weeks before I take it down the workshop. :)

WATANABE heartily endorses this event and product.

Looks like you had fun gents. Wanted to come but things got a bit hectic back at base.

GREAT STUFF GUYS.

Keep up the Good work :D:D

Posted
Hope you fix it and it lasts forever.

 I think you'll have to play the waiting game, i suspect one of these can easily go from 'concours' to 'fire brigade practice' in 2 years or something.

Posted

That looks incredibly grotty, good work!

Looking forward to seeing you spunk a load of hot weld all over this at some point in the future

Wow! :shock:8)

Looks like it'll be a project and a half.

It's threads like this that make Autoshite what it is. Top bombing gents. Cracking team work, cracking car.

The power of the internet was pretty clear to see yesterday. I bought the car off eBay, had it picked up by SOC (who i knew only off the internet), went to collect it up with Pete M (who I knew only off the internet), delivered some bits to Autofive (who I knew only off the internet), delivered a tamiya car from Watanabe (who I have now met in person, but previously only knew from the internet) basically everything happened thanks to folk i know only from the internet. Cheers all!

Earl is pleased by this thread. Makes me all kinds of happy.

Bollo:- You, sir, are a hero for taking this on. Be nice to make it mint, but then again, driving around in a rusty Biturbo has to be pretty damn cool in its own right!

Awesomeness all round. Much admiration for all parties involved.

Fabulous work gentlemen. If the BiTurbo was a house interior it'd be shabby chic.

All involved should be thoroughly proud of themselves....

For an old Masser that looks pretty reasonable. Sills dont look difficult to copy (-at least they're still there) 7 any other rust isnt yet obvious.

Well done -nice purchase. Good to see the Collective operating, too.

Posted

Yeah it looks manageable does the rust. Eurospares are listing new genuine outer sills for £27 each, sounds too good to be true!!! I think I will order a pair at once before they go obsolete.

EPIC.

You are a fucking legend.

You've won the game of autoshite. Go to Shite Avenue and pick up your golden Tagora.

The bus is an ex Gurernsey Albion Nimbus. Remember riding on these and some of the older Albion Victors on holiday in the 70s. Really charming litttle buses.

I haven't got much to add that's not already been said apart from are your shoes Clarks or Hush Puppys Bo11ox?.

Posted

Epic work, there's just the smallest chance the restoration won't be easy, but good progress so far.

Of course, if you had used facebook (other social networking sites are available) to arrange this meeting with total strangers there is a good chance you would be buried in a field somewhere instead.
