OMG a proper thread! My newest shite purchase

Nicely bought Trigger, that looks super-clean. Love the brown interior, it does have quite a bit more character than the MK4 grey plastic.

What an absolute steal Trig and I was very surprised to hear the old couple say that price, reckoned they would have wanted about treble that. Hope it provides you with many miles of happy motoring. :)

I do stick a bit of additive in mine but did look into it and the cvh tuning companies say that every one they have stripped has had identical valves and seats etc regardless so they think all cvh's were built for unleaded.

The stereo in my ghia is one of these:

WOW!

Congrats, that's absolutely, unequivocally, certainly, without doubt, utterly lovely in every way! happy0034.gif

And a great way to begin the week.

This

I hope you've got a garage to keep it in, they're too easy to nick.

And this

What an absolute steal Trig

Anti-theft a very good idea, because that's delicious!

Sadly my Kadett lives in the garage so It will be up the driveway which is a real shame but i don't have any choice, I do have a steering wheel crook lock which I'll use on it as I doubt it will be that hard to steal. :(

Posted

That looks great, ready to drive and show with ZERO dicking about fixing stuff. Bargain too!!

My parents neighbours had one, identical to this, think it was even a B reg too. They used to be everywhere, great to see one in such good condition, thanks for the pics!

*edit* Isn't it Sunburst red?

get a disklok asap and immobilise it in some way....just a simple hidden switch or something.

Is that a "disklock" style one, or an actual crook lock type one? If it's the latter I'd spend £100 of the money you saved on a disclock as it would be heartbreaking to see a space on the driveway one morning.

Wow!

Let's see this again:

How the hell is that possible?!

Unreal isn't it Joe!, I've just been looking at the mot history on the DVLA site, All it's failed on in the last 5 years/ 8000 miles is a few bulbs, wheel bearings and tires!.

Yes it is a dislock Craig, the type that covers the whole steering wheel with a lever you pull down to lock, I only paid £5 for it of ebay!.

Now that is a bargain. How do you do it?!?!

So when are you selling the Kadett? Admit it your having evil thoughts...

Posted

The thought has crossed my mind Andrew!, I just can't do it though!.

I just saw it on ebay near my old mans and emailed the chap asking if he had a BIN price, he told me £5 so i sent my dad of round to collect he, this guy was a classic car enthusiast with two Morgan 3 wheelers as well!.

Just had to laugh, This Escort like mine has just sold £450! :shock:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1982-Mk3-Escort-3 ... 43a6f8238d

saying that this one has only covered 36000 miles (yeah right) and look at the condition of the engine in it! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1984-B-Reg-FORD-E ... 19c56a5616

That's fantastic!!! I would seriously LOVE a mk 3, cars-you-grew-up-with etc etc.

You have to admire someone who can keep coming up with such lush motors, well done Trigger!

Please don't sell the Opel Trig. Not now, not ever.

Seconded. My dad used to have a 1982 1.1 Escort L (it wasn't as miserable as it sounds, you just had to rev its nuts off in order to get going), and he had a little red Hella switch whose absence would stop the ignition.

Like others, I am loving the colour of this!

Amazing stuff Mike, this has gotta be bargain of the year. I never thought I'd say it but Mk3s are actually starting to look pretty good....

Keeping the Mk3 love going, here is a couple of pics of mine!

Cor blimey! That Escort looks absolutely mint. The paintwork doesn't even look faded from your photos. An excellent find and a more than reasonable price. Not messed around with either. Well done! There certainly isn’t many basic or relatively basic models left now.

I wouldn't be too bothered about the towbar but horrible modern front number plate has to go.

Looks like Sunburst Red to me. My Escort is the later Radiant Red.

From my experience, CVH’s can easily be run on unleaded. My mk5 1.4 almost always has done, although it does run a little sweeter with a touch of lead additive thrown in every now and again. Back in the days of four start when my father had two mk5’s back 'in the day’, he used to run it on unleaded all the time and tank it to the brim once a month or so with four star. Brilliant engines – 'GR8 for mixin'!

I'm sorry to hear that you’ll have to move on the mk4. I remember the pictures of that when the old lady had it. I hope it ends up in the hands of someone else on here or the likes. Price it accordingly to avoid the scumbags.

P.S – Nice Ghia, retrogeezer! That also looks like a proper minter. I loved the interior's on the mk3 Ghia's.

Crikey!

Just what would the Doctor realise for that, eh.

I'd be temepted to leave that boot carpet as it is. Life story and all that. It has to stay! 8)

Wow, that truly is the bargain of the year. Nice one Trig glad it's gone to a good home and not punted on to a dealer to be offered up for 2.5k or something.

Engine bay is amazing.

Thanks again guys, Yours looks stunning as well Simon, I didn't realise you had a Mk3, I though you just had a XR2 or something?, As you said it's a shame your so far away, they would look good together in a photoshoot!.

I've done about 70 odd miles in it today going to Colchester and back and it's ran perfectly, I did make the slight error blowing the knackered old Pioneer stereo up though!, I was playing my ipod through the tape deck and needed it turned up quite high to hear it, I then decided i wanted to listen to Popmaster on Radio 2 and took the tape out before i turned it down, the speakers went bang and the stereo died :? I just hope it was a fuse somewhere and not the speakers themselves dieing, I tried to fit my CD player into this afternoon but the wiring is a real mess behind the dash so i need to sort that anyway.

I've also cleaned the Mk4 up this afternoon and took lots of decent photos of it, I'm thinking of sticking it on Ebay tomorrow with a Doctor style listing with a reserve of £600, fingers crossed as it's such a nice car.
