Brilliant read. Im not sure why but I really have a love for Ladas. Keep on posting thanks Thomas

Hat off to you mate, even if I had you skills I would still be tempted to weigh that in.

You must be a total madman. Anyone else would have towed it back to the far end of the farm. Show me an MOT and i'll show you a miracle in a Lada. I have the sight of you driving a Rav4 with an attached Lada madly round he fields as if you are tryig to shake it off firmly in my head now.

EDIT. I went from this to the porn welding thread. that's the winter taken care of then ! Epic if you do it.

:-D  :-D   :-o  :-o  :?  8)

I'm impressed you're patching this one up, that's a massive patch you've had to let in.  I'll stop complaining about the rust on my car now.

Ace! This Samara is a bloody hilarious steer and definitely deserves to live on.

I'd bet my last can of Leo beer that anyone who had chance of a hoon would disagree that this could ever be weighed in on our watch.

Time to change the thread title methinks. I make this the third significant session of welding since we've had it... I did the fist batch to MOT it in time to win* Chumley 2012, Will later reconstructed the rear turrets, and now he can have go at it with a proper welder.

PS, I told you there were proper bumpers underneath those silver plastic egg-shells!

Will is my nomination for the Shite for Heros award for 2014.

That car is my nomination for Heroic Shite of the Year 2012-2014.

It's a winning combination; if that hangs about for long when it has to sell I'll be mega surprised.

I was beginning to worry that this had quietly expired as it hadn't been seen for a while.  Good to see it's on the mend, it brought so much joy to so many.  Looks a lot better minus the bodykit as well!

If it does end up going up for sale it'd be nice if it did the rounds of AS for bit becoming yet another AS bike.

Could be bought by scotoshite and toured about:)

Whoever ends up with custardy of this fine blend of Russian technology and Yorkshite welding must bring it to the next Shitefest next year.

As you know with Project Keith, there is a lot of love for the Samara, my mate who owns his absolutely adores it, its now his daily, but now, shock of shocks, the next project is a full interior restoration, so he's drawing me up yet another shopping list. Keith is going back into the body shop to have a new old stock boot spoiler on sourced from a certain person in North Yorkshire who has a lot of mintola cars, and Keith is also going to get a full re-trim of the seats, and new carpets!!!

Top shiteing. We will have to invite you down to Epping next year for much Samara-ness. BTW, for those of you that went to the Burmingum show the other week, the beige 125P FSO was my mates as well.

I had no idea that the bumpers on higher spec and bodykitted Samaras had the factory-fitted bumpers lurking underneath them. What a great way of keeping them nice for future generations :)

So today I had a bit more of a tickle with the welder.

N/S wing this time!

Had to trim out some big lumps!

Only to find nastiness behind!

Soon plastered in home-made uderseal.

Possibly the biggest welding patch ever?

And then hidden away forever*.

Nothing beats a good quality welder.

All zipped up!

Are you going to re register it as an EC Samara? Surely there's more of you in the build up if it than there is Lada surely!

Any completed price in mind young Will? Just so that I can save some pennies and get in some anaesthetic for my testicles for when SWMBO uses said Samara to try to remove them.

Show us ya welder x

Sorry! Ive just been out in the shed all night and forgot about this post. I'll get a pic for you.

Joe seemed to suggest around £300 as a fair and reasonable price, including spares and a full MOT.

Its worth nowt as it is at the moment.

If anybody else is interested - feel free to start a bidding war on here!

I'm envisaging a little holiday up in Yorkshire next year via a one-way train ticket.

Hmmm.

After a 10 hour day at work I still had plenty of energy left in me so I came back to Malhamdale and continued welding - lower a pillar on the passenger side this time.

Plenty of the homemade underseal had leaked out of the cavity in the top of the sill!

WP_003528.jpg?psid=1

Here is the hole...

Trimming out

WP_003541.jpg?psid=1

All zipped up!

WP_003545.jpg?psid=1

WP_003542.jpg?psid=1

Indefinitely there is always holes in the undersides of the sills where water sits on the inside. A long curved patch sorted that out!

WP_003544.jpg?psid=1

Blended into the sill with a sanding disk - bit of paint and you will never notice!

WP_003546.jpg?psid=1

Nice easy one to finish off with - (relax with some downhill welding for a change!)

WP_003548.jpg?psid=1

WP_003549.jpg?psid=1

Wing capped off and this corner finished!

WP_003550.jpg?psid=1

A bit of poking about underneath revealed a teapot and biscuit tin-full of quality welding thread for you to read!

Joe's welding 2 years ago has lasted remarkably well considering he was welding with patches from the side of a filing cabinet and using a gasless MIG held together with blu-tak.

Passenger side, front of sill.

WP_003533.jpg?psid=1

Passenger side 3/4 way back.

WP_003537.jpg?psid=1

Aah shit. Missed a bit there Joe!

WP_003538.jpg?psid=1

Both sills at the rear need extensive patching...

WP_003540.jpg?psid=1

Lada thoughtfully created these holes to let water in - and give me entertainment on my Saturday nights!

WP_003536.jpg?psid=1

Bigger...

WP_003535.jpg?psid=1

Mahoosive!

WP_003547.jpg?psid=1

Happy days. It should be a nice easy big patch that one!

Slowly slowly making progress :)

That's some neat weldage there but what are you doing with that metal after you weld it on as it looks like its been out in the rain for some time. Shirley its a bit like servicing a car with some used oil and an old filter unless you sort that out?

WP_003549.jpg?psid=1

The rust has set in there well. Its needs taking back and treating. I have left metal outside and its gone like that and its rotted through in no time. I always grind it back completely before welding and then treat it with Hydrate80 and then paint. I am sure just painting over that will let the rust spread underneath.
