New Winter Daily - Nissan Micra Super S

Hi all

As you may know Ive been looking for a cheap J car to use as a daily over the winter while the Corolla hibernates and I try and get on with it as a project!

I wanted something that was at least a bit interesting and i could have fun with so I didnt get bored.............Well now Ive found one!! 8-)

Here is my little Micra 1300 Super S I bought outside of ebay for £185 :D

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320611258209&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Well the car doesnt yet have Tax or MOT and its pretty high mileage at 158k :o but one of the 3 owners had it for 14 years and it was pretty well looked after. All it should need for a new MOT is 2 small patches of welding underneath so its not to bad hopefully!

IF I have engine issues due to the miles Ive seen low milage 1300 engines go for not a lot so thats not an issue either! The suspension has already been replaced for some off a lower milage car.

It seems to drive fine with no smoke or strange noises so I think I'm good for a good while yet hopefully.

Body work is pretty good but has suffered a few small patches of rust. I think the arches are a little crusty under the Golf GTI plastic arches but I'm looking at going wide anyway (you will see why in the pics lol). I even got a mint bonnet free with the car although in a different colour along with some other spares.

Inside its mint apart from a small scuff on the drivers bolster but I'm not worried about that!

All in all I think its gonna be a lot of fun for not much cash!

Heres some pics....................

A few spares in the boot too

There is a few little rusty bits but nothing I really worried about and ill sort them in time!

I had a bit of fun with my Corolla wheels and yes it will be running these hopefully while the corolla is in storage! Just need some hub adapters and some WIDER arches as well as a bit of lowering!!

Looks great, got a soft spot for Micras, though more towards the facelift bubbles. There is a Black Micra in a scrappy in Cradeley Heath, West Mids that I've been pillaging parts off.

Seeing as mine is a pretty much pov-spec, I've purchased a rear parcel shelf complete with speakers as mine didnt have them, to my surprise I also found the connector cable as I thought I'd have to run some wires through. I've also added/replaced some trim on mine as they were falling off/missing.

8) That looks good.

Mrs Trigger had a P plate 1.3 GX once, it wasn't a bad little car except for the purple paint... :? it went like shit of a shovel though, Very quick little thing it was.

I don't like it on them wheels. I love these cars though. Been trying to convince a girl from work to buy one but she wont go for it. Probably not helping by calling it the 'Nissan Curry Wagon'.

Great cars to drive. Not keen on the looks of them though or it might be the old lady image they had when they came out.

Looks like quite a good buy. I would leave it as is rather than lowering/big wheels etc but each to their own.

Haha, with those wheels it looks like one of those out-of-scale cars from "Cartown", or a childs pull-back-and-go toy. This is something of which I approve.

I think it looks ace on the Enkeis.

Those plastic arches were a dealer fit option. I sold loads of the bloody things when I worked for Nissan as they did an alloy'n'arch kit which worked out at about £250 fitted, and which made the Micra 'Inspiration' a lot more appealing to the yoofs who used to come in after the free insurance deal.

There was a Kenwood CD player / 6x9s / acoustic shelf option too. That was about £200 and most of the Micras I sold ended up with 'em.

thumbs up from me too - I like the Super S, quite an unusual model. We did have 1300 SLX (P reg) for a while and it was great little thing. As already said, it was very nippy but not so good around the twisty stuff. Really plush interior too, fake wood dash trim etc.

The mother in law still has it actually!

I was thinking along similar lines - it reminds me of the Scalextric Mini Clubman. It looks ace, and nice to see a Super S which must be pretty rare now.

Keep it on the Enkei's, they suit the car really well! What's the deal with Super S's? They look like they have bigger arches and fogs, are they imports?

Posted

I like the K11, I keep thinking I would like to get my standard steelies with pre facelift center caps banded out and some wider rubber on it.

Will make it handle like shite, but look nice.

Nice. It brought back memories of Mrs A's Micra Matinee which she had a while back. It was odd for a special edition in that all the extras seemed to have been removed rather than added on, we couldn't find anything over the basic model. How can I find out if N 53 ORP has survived; it would be interesting to know if it was still on the road.

The enquiry is complete

The vehicle details for N53 ORP are:

Date of Liability 01 02 2011

Date of First Registration 01 08 1995

Year of Manufacture 1995

Cylinder Capacity (cc) 998CC

CO2 Emissions Not Available

Fuel Type Petrol

Export Marker Not Applicable

Vehicle Status Licence Not Due

Vehicle Colour WHITE

Looks like it's alive and well..

Thanks Volksy :) Mrs A will be pleased to know it is still alive and well, but probably not surprised as it had an easy life and was well looked after. It's probably fairly typical though, there seem to be more decent ones around than most cars of their age.

Im not sure the arches are a dealer part as they dont fit all that well............. well not bad but certainly not a factory fit! The ends have been cut off and modified and there is big gaps where the bumpers meet the bodywork and the angles change! I was told by the guy i bought them off they were from a Golf!!??

Ill need to go wider to fit the bigger wheels so new arches will be going on! Mum may be the lucky owner of these arches for her little red 1.0 micra lol

Cheers for the comments guys! :D

That shoould be a perfect winter daily,

But I cannot believe the rust bubbles He He ! in such a new car.

Back to reality

Posted

the present Mrs. barefoot had one of those as a courtesy car some years ago.

She was furious, 'they've given me a fucking bubble'

the same garage lent me a BMW 318 on the previous visit.

Posted

Oh yeah, you don't really notice in the pics.

Ya get me!! :P

Still looks loads better than i thought they would when he said about them tho!! Defo worth refitting on mums as i cant sell them to a golf owner for "eleventy million quid - DUB yO" as they have been chopped about now! lol 8)

I like the dash on these, pretty funky, the fact that its grey doesn't seem to matter. Looks like it will be perfect for the job of a winter daily. Lowered a bit it would look awesome on either of the sets of wheels shown!

Posted

Yea it will be lowered......... the car was on jacks in the pics with the wheels!

I got round to doing my first mod today and fitting a propper air filter to replace the dubious fitting of the old one!

It was like this.................

031120101029.jpg

I'm not sure its gonna filter much?? So I changed it to this.............

061120101073.jpg

I also removed all the unnessessary pipework that went to the old airbox................

A mate of mine had a Super S a few years back. It was almost as quick as my Kia Pride in a traffic light grand prix, and noticeably better round corners, and it put up with years of abuse from him without dying.

Have I missed something about the Kia range..?

That's a nice looking car U_S_, I've been fancying one for longer than I'd care to admit to in public.

Early Kia Prides (the carburettor versions) with the 1324cc engine go like the clappers. I used to see off A4s and 318is in mine. No weight, plenty of torque and no rev limiter - great combination.

Is that the same engine as the wierd bubble Mazda 121s? That purple one I had was pretty quick.

Nearly but not quite - the bubble Mazda 121s got a 16-valve head. Performance is similar though - more power but more weight for it to drag around.

Yea they seem to be hardy little beastys........... Lets just hope mines ok with its high miles

Hmm ill have to hunt down Kia Prides LOL
