ABV 441R

Volvo 244 DL bought by my Dad in 1992, passed onto me in 1995 traded in 1998 for a Pug 405 that was horrible in every way,

The 244 was comfortable, reliable and solid; a truly wonderful machine that I will regret parting with till the day I die.

Nearly everything I've owned:

1971 Vauxhall Viscount

1975 Skoda S100L

1974 Hillman Hunter GLS

1978 Chrysler 180

1978 Chrysler Avenger GLS

1978 Chrysler Hunter Super

1980 Talbot Alpine GL

1981 Triumph TR7 DHC

1985 Talbot Alpine Rapier

...apart from the TR7 all these would be hard to replace even if I wanted.

Cars I wouldn't be that bothered about owning again:

1963 Vauxhall Viva SL

1963 Morris 1000 (my first car on my 17th birthday)

1973 VW Beetle 1303S

Hmmm... I miss my Wartburg. The only other car I regret letting go of, worrtyingly, was my Rover 414, M497 KVP.

My dad's old Escort Finesse (T160 JGD) was/is still on the go, if I could have that I would in a minute. Great car...

I'd have my Alfa back - '99 145 Cloverleaf in Red (not faded to pink). Looks like it went in the scrappage scheme though

Clio Si X58 FTP was a good 'un. Enjoyed that quite a lot, seemed a shame to sell it. Probably still about but I can't be arsed checking.

I had an early R5 TS - a '77 S plate which was cracking mechanically but perhaps not surprisingly it was also rotten  Had quite a lot of Mk1 R5s but most were terminally rusty by the time they left me.

Cit AX Diesel - N630 DFV was a belting car. Should have kept that but I got bored of it and it was passed onto Sista_Lobsta who took it to London to repeatedly crash it to death.

Other than that, probably not much. I liked my Twingo but the ex Mrs_L didn't so it went. Fortunately so did she not long afterwards :D P899 KEY doesn't appear to be taxed now though...

As I'm an unsentimental old sod, I wouldn't want back any of the cars that I have owned; they all went for good reasons. I wouldn't mind another Saab 96 though, but it would have to be a two-stroke rather than either of the V4s that I owned.

Oh very nice, Oz built A40 Dorset tourer? I'm sure this one has been featured in either PC or County Counsel in the past. I can see why you regret selling it.

84 MG Metro 1300 - not that great TBH, but fun

90 MG Maestro EFi - quick-ish, comfy, so very cool

91 Rover Metro (R6) GTa - highly modded drivetrain, very quick, the guy who bought it from me had been begging to buy it for 2 years

89 VW Golf GTi 8 valve. Solid as could be, well made, very cool also

81 Jaguar XJ-S 3.6. Blew up ht engine, sold it. They buyer lobbed a 6.0 V12 in it. Still around!

Just three I would like back

PJL 634M - yellow Ren 12TS :D

TLO 540G - 1600E - as a 17 year old apprentice the insurance was sky high and I sold it to another lad in the workshop who then painted it white from it's original purpley colour.

D802 HAJ - 535iSE sadly met it's end at a roundabout just aoutside Port Glasgow :cry:

TBH I'm pretty much happy with what I've got, I've also been lucky to get one of my fave cars back as I refused to sell it, I just blagged some storage instead.

Mind you, if I could, the cars I'd have are:

87' Rover Sterling - D233KYG - Dads old chariot, even he gets a bit nostalgic about this car.

89' Rover 827Si - F852COG - Crashed this car a few years ago, got it repaired temporarily to take me to work and back as I worked in Telford at the time, I later sold it to a mate who broke it for parts and engine and scrapped the rest.

89' Sierra Sapphire Ghia - F230TAR - First proper car, given to me by a relative just as I was starting a new office job, boy did I feel like a yuppie! It didnt half hold its own in modern traffic, great car. Unfortunately I was too young, poor a stupid to sort the car out as it was dying on me, over heating and idling erratically, the electrics were starting to go, I could see no other way of trying to preserve the car, I sold it for scrap but kept the pepperpot wheels.

Mk2 Escort 1300 - PHX349R. Sold in 2002 I think, after about 6 months ownership. My second car but the first I got to drive on the road. Needed work (innerwing rails had gone, biggish hole in the spare wheel well) but drove very well for what it was. Just checked on DVLA and it's still taxed.

Hmmmm....

JLE627V Renno 4 TL, 1st car, bought Thursday, rolled Sunday. Kept it til the mot ran out, then scrapped.

A32KLL Renno 4 gtl, bought "for a laugh", my 1st "2nd" car, commuted to London every day for 18months, til lost parking space. failed mot, scrapped.

A985PNK Mk 1 Astra in Terracotta, with Nova 1400SR lump, mild cam, and rejetted carb. Went like stink, looked like shit. Sold to fund purchase of Estate. gutted.

C940FOO Mk 1 XR3i, lowered about an inch, silly cam. Came as part of the deal with Mrs Outlaw. Gave her my car, and I smoked about in this. Seriously uncomfortable, but silly quick. Sold when made an offer that I couldn't refuse.

NOT BOTHERED ABOUT

Mark 3 Escort Estate A929FLM. Bought off my dad, spunked a load of money getting it sorted out, wrote it off within 2 months. Never really bonded with it, didn't really have a chance tbh.

F456PLA Astra Merit estate. Hated from about a week after I bought it. To it's credit it was 100% reliable, and I abused it horribly. Stolen from Oldchurch hospital car park Friday 13th december 2002, while visiting stepson with brain haemorrage, Thanks.

DMF222V Cortina 1.6 base. Nice thing really, but the heater didn't work, the void bushes were fooked, and it had no brakes to speak of. Hit up the arse in lakeside, written off, salvage went round Arena (for about 4 laps).

Currently I have a nice old Bmw 320i se 1990 4 Door auto which i saved from being scrapped.....she sits in my garage but I'd love to have a nice R25/30 instead.....

Posted

J711KLY - Polo G40. Exported by a guinness muncher who proceeded to do a nuts and bolts resto on it.

H611FBC - Audi 90 20v Sport Quattro Jobbie Thing - flogged it cos it was too thirsty, instead of getting it set up properly.

PPC434L - My first Beetle, a 1303S. God I loved that, and all it's faults and ugliness. Many happy memories, I'd love to have it tucked away somewhere in retirement but sadly it's a Hotpoint Washer/Dryer by now thanks to insane amounts of rot.

Angry Dicky you are correct, it is an Australian A40 Dorset Tourer, it had a build plate from Ruskin Motor Bodies, I sold it during a house move when I needed to raise extra cash in a hurry, if it ever comes up for sale I'll do everything I can to get it back. As far as I'm aware there are only three in the UK, I did have one of the others (dark green), but again stupidly sold it unfinished and unregistered (I believe it's now registered on a Devon saloon id, a shame as it had all the customs clearance documentation and paperwork to register it properly) The dark green one did come up for sale again a couple of years ago,but by the time I found out, I was too late to buy it back.

Austinfamily.jpg

The third tourer is/was red and a later column change model, I've not seen it in the flesh though and not heard of any others over here.

i see in the back of your garage you have a devon hop 718 i think i have owned that car around 2000 do you live around the newport area or did you take it to tredegar park- newport. that was the last place i have seen it

I still kind off miss my K10 Micra, gearbox started to go on the micra; so I brought my Mazda 323 from Spottedlaurel. Got a 4spd box free for the micra but never got round to fixing it. In the end I offered the car on RR for free no body claimed it, so it got scrapped. The day it got scrapped my neighbours came over to tell my parents that they were really pleased we had finally got rid of 'that old banger!', several hours later I arrived in my newly collected Hiace camper and parked it in the now vacant space on the drive

I miss my Peugeot 405 GTX TD estate. Why would anybody need or want more in a vehicle?

It could do more than 55MPG, break 100MPH (GPS verified) quite easily, and carry almost anything in supreme comfort. It also completed nearly 30k on 'mixed fuels' including used vegetable oil, used engine oil, kerosene and diesel.

WINNER WAGON

I had to post that avoiding the vomitous photobucket 'best bashful poses' and 'best hat' sections.

3 cars that i haved owned and wish i had never got rid of are in order:-

gt coupe corolla and it was this colour. did have a silver one as well but the red one for some reason was more sorted.

gtcoupe.jpg

mitzi 2000 turbo also the same colour.

lancer2000turbo.jpg

honda civic 1500, a real quick car for a 4 door saloon, would rev its nuts off and it would take on any rs2000 in its time

1500civic.jpg.

there are a few others as well, ke30 corolla, austin a30,starlet 1300s, hunter gls, i have had some that i would not like to own again, mostly blue oval cars.

Another one I'd love to have back, not really shite this one but I'd have another one without hesitation

My old Ford Escort 1.3 Eclipse by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

My old Eclipse was lovely, It was totally standard before i got it and i colour coloured the bumpers, fitted the alloys a few other bits, It was a really good looking car, I sold it for a L reg Fiesta 1.3 Ghia just because it was newer, Twat.

My Old Ford Escort 1.6 Si by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

My Escort 1.6 Si, It was only around 6 years old at the time, I paid about £2500 for it, I loved it, I splashed out £500 for a new set of Alloys and it looked great, Sadly it got smashed up when someone pulled out in front of me at a roundabout, It spend a year in a farm yard before i sold it to a rastafarian who drove it back to Walthamstow at 12am with no rear lights, knackered tyres and no mot or tax  Amazingly It's still on Sorn.

My old Audi A4 1.8 SE by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

Anther car i miss is this A4, I paid £2000 for it back in 2006 which was sod all, it was a really gem, full mot and tax, mint bodywork everything, but i sold it as i wanted a diesel and mistakenly traded it in for a Focus as the garage offered me more or it then i paid for it.

1999 Ford Mondeo ST24 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

I guess the ST24 is the one i miss the most, I was a fantastic car, the bodywork was stunning, it was well looked after from new and everything, but it was drinking me dry doing the mileage i was at the time so it had to go, I nearly cried then the buyer drove off down the road.

One that come's to mind, if I had a garage, would be my granddad's Vauxhall Firenza - MXD 689K, which he owned from new for 23/24 years. I spent a lot of my childhood school holidays pottering around in this. It's still around today...

The MK5 Escort which introduced me to them - H845 RUJ. Gone now according to the DVLA, but I would love to track it down if it hasn’t already been turned into baked bean cans... My own 'holy grail' of motors.

My father’s old Sierra - H532 JJL.

I'd even like to re-purchase the Ford Ka I had for 18 months - V147 GCK.

Posted
Aled, I owned the Devon in the late 1990's, I bought it down Llanelli way (was it off you?). I sold it to a friend in Barry who passed it on to another friend in Cardiff, (who had previously bought my A70 Hereford which he subsequently changed for a Jensen bodied A40 sports)

yep that was me i had a yellow clan and a few imps at the time.
