Then he can regale us with his 16 week adventure getting it home from eight miles away.

@CavcraftBeen there, done that with Zafira As. I quite liked it but for the James Bond style smoke clouds - the injector pump was in an advancing state of fucklement.

En-route we pass the home of a serial posh chod-botherer...

We've Graduated from Jaguars via a Citroën C6 to this...

It's a 1.9tdi 105, it failed its last MOT for emissions - there's certainly a damaged boost hose, but it does seem a bit chattery with a hint of misfire.  Any pointers @RoverFolkUs

I'll do a smoke test when I get a chance but as I've just got back, it's fucking pissing it down so it will wait.

I know on the PDs the injector loom in the head sometimes has issues, could also be cam wear or an injector or 2?

Ha nice! My mates one we got from a bombsite dealer in reading is quite a nice steer tbh. Did throw a rear abs sensor code at him the other week but otherwise is nice and vag and deiselly.

If there's a boost leak that definitely needs sorting out first.

How does it start from hot? Worse case scenario could be tired injectors or worn cam lobes, but the injector wiring loom would be the first thing to check

Same engine as my Caddy, but checking the MOT history its not even run in yet.

There are a million boost pipes to check, N75 valve block, wiring can also go brittle causing problems, turbo vanes do carbon up and the actuator can get stuck. Also EGR can be blocked up. If Euro4 no DPF, if Euro5 then DPF.

Best thing is to scan it with VCDS and go from there.

Mines on 494k miles, but its cost a lot to get it there.

I've got the anti shudder flap and the egr valve off for cleaning, I don't think it is smoking enough for it to be a turbo failure although it does sound rough as all arse.

I suppose it might be worth checking it hasn't skipped a tooth on the timing belt.

They're not the most quiet or refined engine. You can alter the torsion setting for the timing. It normally says what it was set at from the factory on the belt cover. People like to mess about with it as there is supposed to be a mythical sweet spot of extra mpg/more power.

This one is rough - I'm found a split boost hose under some insulation tape, but I reckon its nosier than just that.  I'm wondering if the cat has collapsed.

  • ruffgeezer changed the title to Hard times, bad luck so bought a (broken) Touran.

So, I got the cat off, checked out the turbo and as they both looked to be ok, well, I suspect it has worn the cam or a bucket out.

Hmm....

A quick and dirty advert on the Caddy Facebook sites presented me with a nice bloke from Cleethorpes, keen to put the seats in his caddy.  I kept the nearly new battery and swapped in an older one and he paid me a drink on top of the purchase price.

You can't save them all, which is a shame as I do like a Touran, even if admitting that on a public forum puts me in the ranks of the "Bollocky, biscuit-eating bastards"

Better to draw a line in the sand now than spending more time and money on it only to reach the same outcome.

People rave about the PD engines but I've never been a great fan. Yes they can be superb if maintained meticulously through their life but chances are they won't have been and you end up buying yourself a headache

They do actually drive ok (well, the 2.0 one does when it decides to) but they're still absolutely fucking awful cars.

I agree. Shame about not saving it, but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere.

I have extensively driven Tourans for one reason or another despite never owning one and neither having the desire to do so.

My mate bought one from Crawley or somewhere like that. I had to drive it from there to Halesowen. My mate cabbed it for a good few years before buying himself a Toyota Estima Hybrid for his taxi duties.

PD exhaust fumes will certainly give you a headache. I wouldn't start our passat unless all the doors were closed.

I love the smell of mine on a cold morning but I am exceptionally odd.

They were ok until that 105 hp version came out, which had been cheapened by VW

I prefer the old 90/110 pre PD , though.
