That's a sweet looking car, I would go for that too if I had circa £2k to spend.

Black and white numberplates do look a bit wrong on most cars, especially '70s ones. I'm glad you're considering putting the original reflective 'plates back on.

I've been searching google for ages looking for a club for the 'B', i can only find one for the 'C' though.

If you do spot a window for this door on ebay let me know please! :D

That is absolutely fuggin lovely.

I'd say keep it on the black plates as that is 1972 style. 8)8)8)8)8)

I remember in early 1971 (J plates) being disappointed to see new cars on black plates. However, thanks to the dodgy dealings of the Grasping Bastard in 1997, the cutoff for free tax now coincides with the cutoff for black plates. If you're legally entitled to free tax, you're entitled to the black plates, and if not, not. Therefore I'd be leaving them on as a badge of honour. But, it's your car, you do what you think best, it's still lovely.

What an absolute stunner! Nice one Trig. You're going to have to bring this to a RR meet soon so that I can drool over it in the metal.

Posted

110%!, I wanted something worth bringing, and i think this is it!

I really can't wait to collect it tomorrow lunchtime.

Posted

Bloody lovely!

Can't wait to see it out & about in the metal.

That is fantastic, you must be right chuffed Mike. Sounds like a good price too - show me the MK1 Cortina of that standard you could get for that price! A lot rarer too.

I love it, and I say reinstate the original number plates as I think the black ones look crap on anything later than about 1968 (F reg and later)

Looking forward to seeing this in the flesh! 8)

Will it fit in your garage?

That's nice, the interior is cool as. You gonna grow an Afro?

nice find :D

should be able to get a bit of glass cut for the 1/4 window. or a decent quality plexiglass will be very difficult to tell from proper glass. does it have a slight curve?

or find a toughened 1/4 window of simlar shape and see if anyone can cut it down to the correct size. must be worth a try?

Lovely car Trigger, glad you found a good one at last.

BTW bin those German style plates, they are horrific!

That looks grand Trig 8)

+1 on putting the original plates back. Reflectives started in 1967 and black and white plates just don't look right on early seventies chod, even if it is still legal. IMHO.

Is the frame still okay, just the glass you need? I'll have a look on the local 'bay this weekend... parts shop I linked earlier doesn't seem to have that glass.

Someone on the B-club's forum claimed to have an attic full of glass, 20-30 of each piece! Might be worth registering?

Thanks Michiel, I'll check better once I pick it up, I might even be able get a piece made up at the local builders merchants.

I agree on those German plates! It's not a VW is it!

Hey if that doesnt put smiles on faces as it goes down the road, nothing will. Class in a glass man! GOOD WORK TRIGHOUSE

PS that yellow thing is a Faithorpe/TX Tripper not a Trigger!

Not read all of this but going on your first photos/post that looks really great! 8)

trig - that car makes my willy feel funny - gorgeous well bought mate

That's lovely, I hope that you are not going to go all 'Hammond' on us and call it Oliver.

I'll have a word on Monday about the glass with the company that we have based at work, if they're not flat out fitting rear screens in Octavia taxis, 8 in 36 hours all from the same taxi company. At least they have some boulders to make a rockery.

Norman, are you talking bollocks? :)

Well it's home!, I went this lunchtime collect the old girl, Everything went well, The owner even gave me a big pile of old Autocar magazines from the 70's and 80's as well.

The 100 odd mile drive home was nice, She drives along quite happily at 60-65 mph, Has good powerful disc brakes and very light steering.

I really can't fault it!, I've already had lots of thumbs up and comments, everyone i know who's seen it can't believe how good it is, Even my dad who moans about everything was impressed!.

Any way have some more photos that i took this evening back home.

The front reminds me of a baby Chevrolet, Though i guess Chevy and Opel are all part of the GM group.

It had a full stainless steel exhaust fitted in 1994 costing £244, It makes a nice little farting noise, much like a Moggy Minor.

Posted Image

No Fuel injection or ECU's to worry about here, Just lots of waxoil.

Posted Image

The button on the right near the door is the windscreen wash pump, and even the interior light still works!.

Genuine mileage.

The boot is massive and like new inside.

The owner even gave me a big pile of old autocar magazines as well as the original sales brochure, It has every mot back to 1990, The car comes from J.D Phelps, Bulwark Garage, Chepstow, Gwent new, before moving to Dorset in 1993 where a lot of the work was done before moving to Louth in Linconshire and then Hertford.

I still can't make my mind up on the plates, some people said to keep the B&W's, other have said the originals, I really don't know!
