Oh, yeah. I bought this:

Because it was the four stroke version of my previous 353

B291FOG, ex Nick Larkin. The 353W next to it was owned by a mate who had come over from Halle in East Germany to live and bought his Wartburg with him.  He also learned to speak English from bootleg copies of Monty Python that he managed to acquire before the wall came down. He ended up moving to Belfast (for a girl) and bought himself a Talbot Samba and a 1500 Maxi.

Good times.

The green Wartburg looks ace - though I'm getting flash backs due to my Dad toying with the idea of buying a Wartburg estate (when all my mates dad's drove Ford Tina's ) still got the Wartburg brochure somewhere ....

Now then. 2 or 4 stroke? Which one if you had to choose? 😁

On other forums this would be cool, but not sure on here?

In November 2013 I bought this M3 evo convertible. 321 bhp, 6 speed manual, no nanny control just a LSD. It drove so well and very well engineered, but could over power its grip if not driven with respect. After 10 years I hadn't crashed it and felt it was only a question of time so sold it.

Not as straightforward a choice if you've owned both. Two strokes are ace and that little three cylinder was a gem of an engine in its later guises but the more interesting is the four stroke. The engine is a carbon copy of the VW 1300 but entirely built by IFA and the whole front of the car had to be completely re-engineered for the engine and in-house designed gearbox. What for? About 18 months of production?

The project cost millions to develop; against Wartburgs will; all because the government of the day had done a deal with VW to licence the engine and foisted the choice upon IFA.

Four strokes aren't as desirable as the earlier cars because - two stroke innit? I like the underdog and this is the most underdog of them all.

I've never owned a cool car, the Dolly 1850HL was probably the least uncool...

With those wheels? Nope - that is uber-uber-uber cool.

I'd have given my eye teeth for that circa 1980 -couldn't afford it, ended up with a 1968 Vitesse in 1982. (The Vitesse is not the one I selected as my coolest car).

Mitsubishi Delica L300, AKA The Mystery Machine. :D

Looked like this but the lower half was a dark gun metal colour. Really miss it and keep getting tempted to get another.

EDIT: This was the coolest car I've owned in AS criteria. Four years old when I bought it and drove it for 17 years with no issues. HGF sent it to the bridge; I was going to get it repaired but it was starting to rust at the rear end and my car dealer mate talked me into buying a 2003 Almera for half the retail price.

We've still got a 323 on fleet, my eldest has done around 50,000 miles in it, and it is a truly great (and cool!) wee car.

Starting to show it's age body-wise (it would help if it got a wash occasionally...), but still attracts attention.  I'll get it back when he moves on to the Xedos that's cluttering up my driveway!

I always thought the Coupe was cool, certainly stands out nowadays...

Doesn't feel anything like it age or mileage to drive either.  Yep, probably the coolest I've owned so far.

It feels a bit of a cop out when it's a current car, especially when I'm sure many deem it totally uncool; but still. Not my 'best' car though.

As someone who devoured magazines like Car, Performance Car and Evo from a young age I've long been a sucker for perceived "cool" cars.

I've had

Audi ur quattro

205 GTis

MK2 Golf GTis

BMW E34 M5

Audi S4 B6

Porsche 911

But the coolest one in my opinion is this little blue van with the wrong engine in it. IMG20250629171647.jpg.c40f33953b9f96a14d35b57fd8dec486.jpg

There is an old Opel in the garage which might one day challenge it but that'll not be for a while😳
