The coolest car you’ve owned

Recommended Posts

Most of my cars have had fully functioning air conditioning but I’m not sure any were cool.

The 330 scored for being a 6-cylinder, rear drive, petrol manual in an actual colour but I’m still not sure it qualifies.

Series Land Rovers are now cool amongst urban hipster types but I doubt that was the case 25 years ago.

The Tesla is objectively the best car I’ve ever owned but it scores less well in the subjective categories.

I’ve owned lots of cool cars, but the coolest really would be the 2005 Renault Clio 1.4 16v automatic 5dr in Silver

This is the actual car pictured, sadly it’s too cool for an old square like me, so I’ve very generously put it up for sale so slide on down to the for sale section and check it out

I drove over 300,000 miles in this car, and it never felt uncool.

The GSA that preceded it was possibly cooler though.

Cheating. Unfair starting point.

There are many more!

Always wanted a white RR Vogue. It was crap. Fiero wasn't a patch on an X1/9

Also the best car I've ever owned.

Also the worst.

The engine in my Ferrari Dino replica on the last page was out of one of these, great engine, car it came from was accident damaged so don't feel too bad about breaking it.

One of my most favourite cars of those ive owned. Now in its 6th year with me and genuinely cant see me ever parting. Old school big engine small car hot hatch. And in the best colours too. Never see the like again which is why it stays.20220310_180423.jpg.b38d6305b40a5e1c28b7dd29fd7d2177.jpg

No pics anywhere I’m afraid as it was pre-smartphones but I used to have a gorgeous Carlton GSi3000 with a huge free flow stainless exhaust. It was absolutely mint but at the time, it was just something to smoke around in as I was busy running my back street car lot in central Leeds.

According to most people it's my appliance white Toyota:

Being utterly obscure and JDM probably helps it!

Probably followed by the Caprice taxi and Cadillac.

Personally I vote for either my W140 500SEL or manual 540i Touring. What's cooler than a V8 powered unassuming family hauler with a 6-speed manual?

My old MK5 Golf GT 1.4 170. This generation of Golf was absolutely stellar and the car felt solid. Shame the engine was niche and a bastard to get parts for.

People insist it’s the Mini.

I personally want to set it on fire as I don’t think I managed 1000km between breakdowns.

My dream car as a kid, had it years, still love it, cool as fuck! 😂

Need to drive it more!

I personally think my turbocharged 175hp Mini is my coolest car. Yeah it's not a show winner and it's looks are very Marmite but it's so cool to me.

PXL_20250830_100219475.jpg.5871c439480b4656952a6ff039c280cd.jpg

It also breaks down on the regular but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Totally agree: Having owned 4 of the twats over the years, I feel I should have listened to my father who said "Issigoniss was a maverick"

Father bought a new mini in 1959 and it needed 3 new gearboxes under warranty.

I've always imagined you to be cool. Both of them prove it.

I was the custodian of M420HPC, Gary Lineker's old Lexus LS400.

Some chums and I took it around/across Europe and back absolutely as fast as it would.

ALLEGEDLY, we had 163 mph on the satnav. A friend protruded his arse and romantic array out of the window at high speed. We ejected toilet rolls from the sunroof whilst setting off speed cameras. We WEREN'T RACING but a friend elected to do a kneeling up pee in order to guarantee being the fourth car from Dunkirk to Nice.

The brakes were horrifyingly warped. It had a 9 tone horn made of scavenged horn sounders from the scrap yard. It was run right to the very edge of its operational envelope and instead of breaking, it just soldiered on and was sold after the ordeal to live on.

Cool for the level of engineering and durability it demonstrated.

The car which turned heads the most was my first Corrado 16v. I'd just bagged my first teaching job and bought this as I could finally afford one. I still rate the design of them. file_00000000bd04720aa68173988c8e6f20.png.c04c6f8a43934fbdf4dddc5b8a1640d2.png

The car which I loved the most and which never, ever failed to make me smile was my Cavalier GSi. Personally, I thought they were cool looking cars (although a few just assumed it was 'another Cavalier') and the sound of that redtop was addictive. I'd 100% have one in my dream barn collection.

Edit: I reckon my classic Impreza Catalunya also deserves a mention. I dailied it for just over a year and only sold it because it was just about to hit 100k and I assumed it would lunch itself at some point as Subarus tend to do. In hindsight, I should have kept it as it was a rot-free shell with impeccable history, as well as being a limited edition UK model. Gorgeous car. Fortunately, it's been tucked-up in a collection for the last 15 years and remains pretty much as I sold it.

I really like it on the twisty roads when it works. It’s just a shame it never seems to actually work. Even my Mini specialist is fed up of this particular car, and it’s sitting on his drive gathering dust for months as he can’t find any mojo to work on it again.

That's really surprising. Mechanically there really isn't a lot that can go wrong with them. Certainly nothing complex, they've been around for decades and any problems are well understood. I'd be looking for another 'specialist'.
