Popsicle Posted June 19 Posted June 19 So how high or low has it been for you? 30 °C is my hottest so far this year, recorded this afternoon in North Wales. Summer '22 is my highest reading, 42.5 °C, July in Essex. The lowest I can show in the van was winter 2022, a pathetic -7 °C on the A9 through the Cairngorms in January. As some of you live in more extreme climates, I'm sure these efforts can be beat. So how high or low can you show? AnnoyingPentium, EyesWeldedShut, Snipes and 1 other 4
Dyslexic Viking Posted June 19 Posted June 19 For obvious reasons, I stayed indoors. Hope it still counts. But the car probably looked like this then if that helps. I had -34 but don't have a picture of it. Popsicle, holbeck, adw1977 and 5 others 8

MrGTI6 Posted June 19 Posted June 19 The hottest I've recorded was in my 306 GTI 6, also in the summer of 2022. Actual temperature was only* 40°C. I recall we were only 0.1°C behind Heathrow which set the UK record on the same day. RayMK, Popsicle, AnnoyingPentium and 1 other 4
myglaren Posted Friday at 07:59 Posted Friday at 07:59 Coldest, no picture, was -38°C in southern Sweden (Borås) in the early seventies. Hottest was in the same location six months later, +38°C. But the very hottest was last year in my garden, +52°C*. It was cheating though as the thermometer is in direct sunlight and very sheltered. Last year I had 32°C in late February and was painting the fence. Snowed the next day, 4°C and no more fence painting for a month. *there is a photo buried in the archives somewhere. IronStar Posted Friday at 09:18 Posted Friday at 09:18 No photo, but the highest I've seen sustained on the dash without car sitting parked in direct sunlight was 46C last year, on the motorway between Belgrade and Novi Sad. Aircon noped out after 15 minutes of that and started blowing mildly cold air as opposed to the usual arctic blizzard coming out of it. I honestly think that heat/sun sensor array was detecting an out-of-bounds value and decided to play it safe, as it started working properly after I found some shade. EDIT: Have a 42 at 5PM instead Popsicle, myglaren and Dyslexic Viking 3
AnnoyingPentium Posted Friday at 11:30 Posted Friday at 11:30 Yesterday... I can't find the 38°C one from summer 2022 to hand. Popsicle 1
RayMK Posted Friday at 13:07 Posted Friday at 13:07 This was the day after my hottest encounter in 1974. No temperature measurement but parts of the alloy engine had melted, so circa 500degC. IronStar, AnnoyingPentium, myglaren and 2 others 5

RayMK Posted Friday at 14:12 Posted Friday at 14:12 31 minutes ago, Dyslexic Viking said: Can I ask what car that was? And do you know the cause of the fire? 1967 Reliant 3-25. Most likely cause was the metal fuel pipe connector popping out of the Zenith carb. As manufactured, the connector was pressed into the alloy carb. A few years of vibration plus maintenance (disconnection/connection of the pipe to the carb) could loosen the press fit. Failure sequence on the way to work was: 2 sec of very strong petrol smell, slowed down to pull over and investigate, before I'd stopped there was a big flash which blew the ashtray out of its aperture on the engine cowling inside the car, followed immediately by strong fire. Wife and I bailed out. Traffic stopped. An ambulance which was in the queue radioed the nearby fire station who arrived 5 minutes later in time to extinguish the fire before it consumed the boot and my toolkit. During the burning phase, the lights and wipers came on and the starter began to operate. 3rd party fire and theft insurance paid out quite swiftly, settling the hire purchase, leaving enough for man maths to show that buying a brand new 2cv6 was the answer. Passed my car test, took delivery of the Citroen and lived happily ever after, swearing to never buy another Reliant. Forgot* and bought a project 1961 Reliant in 1992 which took until 2005 to return to the road (still got it, on the road). Bought another (Rialto) in 2007 which I kept for a couple of years before selling. Some people never learn 🤣. crad, mercedade, Dyslexic Viking and 5 others 8
