@wesacosa what day do you intend to be at Brands?

I've booked Sunday but may try to make it Saturday for the GP circuit.

I'm there both days as its pretty local to me and free entry if you book to exhibit a pre 2000 car in the classic display

One of the prettiest cars ever to come from Japan, well done. :)

Any tips on where the heck i'm going to get parts and info on this thing ?   Any good forums or recommended workshop manuals etc given there's no Haynes

I had a Xedos 6 about 20 years ago. Mine was a 1992/K, but with a private plate on everyone thought it was a new car, as well as having NO idea what it was.

Seemed to do 30mpg all the time no matter what the driving style, not massively fast but serenely smooth despite having 140k on it when I took ownership.

I sold it for peanuts when the valve stem seals started to let go. Did not have the patience to do 24 of them! The rocker cover gasket used to leak into the spark plug wells too which would occasionally result in a misfire which was resolved by forcing a load of kitchen roll into the recess to soak up the oil :D

Replaced with a VR6 Passat which was faster but used a magnitude more fuel!

Parts generally shared with the contemporary Mazda 626 and/or the Probe/MX6. Things like wheel bearings were also shared with the Kia Carens IIRC. Most things are still available as far as I know:

Suspension arm for example: Mazda Xedos 6 FIRST LINE Wishbone Front Left FCA6277 | Online Automotive

If you get stuck for parts, feel free to PM me. I have access to a fair amount of cataloguing data and can usually dig out a part number if nothing else.

I don't think you'll need many parts for it considering the mileage. The Xedos community in Germany used to be by far the best source of parts and knowledge and probably still is despite being almost dead now. There's certainly no shortage of body/interior parts, exhausts, engines, anything really, i.e. from here:

https://nipponteile.de/

You just have to get them over to the UK somehow. I don't think you'll ever have to worry about those though.

Suspension bits are a little trickier, I know it is for the Xedos 9. With so many parts shared with the 323F and 626 it should be a lot easier for the 6. Autodoc will be your best bet still.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure it's gonna need a cambelt but im assuming autodoc will have the parts but the procedure might be more difficult but will check that forum

Main concern for now is whatever is putting this intermittent transmission error light on

They don't advertise the fact, but the UK Probe Owners' Club can also help sourcing bits.

I used Rockauto for a few things.  More reliable and timely delivery than autodoc too, which isn't difficult.

Who was that twatface on here and club323F who used to take orders and payment and never deliver? I seem to recall @Jim Bell and others on here pointed him out

Firstly, well bought. I still miss mine a lot. I would love to compare it with the Safrane.
I never had an issue with my Xedos while I had it so I can’t really help with any guides for places to get stuff. It is Japanese so you shouldn’t need them anyway.
I am a bit jealous. I hope you love it and it does you proud.

I think it was around 3,000rpm.  It wasn't frantic but equally wasn't Mk3 Cavalier 1,800rpm territory.

Mine did the HOLD thing.  It was totally random, would go 6 months without doing it, but changes could be jerky as a result.  ATF changes didn't solve it so must've been electrical.

Is there a specific procedure you used to change the ATF ?  I'm thinking a fluid and filter change on mine wouldn't go amis even if its not the cause of the issue.

I am starting to wonder if my TC is locking up.  Given the light only flashes at certain (higher) speeds I'm wondering if its when the TC should be locking up

I did several half arsed ATF changes i.e. extracted it from the dipstick tube.  I figured introducing some new AFT was better than nothing.

I can come over at some point if you like and we can run it down the A2.  Should be able to tell if it's locking up by comparing it to mine.  The memory of what mine was like is still in my head I think!

thanks , might take you up on that kind offer. Although first I think i'm going to try some diagnostics with the a blink code reader. Someone sent me the pins I need to short out to get the codes read for both engine and transmission

I can firmly recommend Amayama for parts for obscure Japanese cars:

their exploded diagrams are super useful too

Apologies if this has been mentioned already but I'm sure somewhere I've read that the gearbox has an ECU of sorts which attempts to preempt how you're driving and what gearchange it should do, I wonder if it's just needing a good bit of driving to loosen up and used to someone who isn't an old giffer.

The old forum bike one seemed to either shift really smoothly or a bit jerky if traffic was stop and go, like it had assumed I wanted a smooth quick change but the flow of traffic had hindered that.

interesting, thanks.  I did wonder if it was that , or it being stood. Hopefully either way it will be something non-catastrophic

First chance since I collected it to have a quick look at the Xedos today, what with work, trips & visitors and trying to get the Panda ready for its departure last week

The two most pressing issues with the car are checking the condition of the cambelt and trying to figure out the source of the intermittent transmission warning light , so of course instead I went looking to sort out the stereo and the remote central locking

Locking was an easy fix, just swapped the battery in the fob and it now works although unhelpfully the open and close buttons are not marked and the indicators don't flash

Second on the list was the stereo. I mentioned this earlier in the thread. As we all know 90s anti theft codes on stereos can be a bit of a pain but there are seemingly ways to get hold of codes that have been long lost

Mazda & Panasonic in their wisdom decided that this was not good enough and supplied their units without codes but with the ability to put in your own code and the helpful suggestion to note it down somewhere safe not in the car. All well and good until the owner dies and hasn't left the code in an obvious place.

Even better is that there's no way to reset the unit without the code, and even better than that if you enter it incorrectly 3 times it bricks the unit forever!

Fully expecting to have to try and fail to find a replacement and end up having some ghastly after market single DIN or modern retro looking head unit in my otherwise totally original interior I was delighted to be tipped off by the son of the previous owner from whom I bought the car of a guy on eBay flogging what was reported to NOS Xedos 6 head units for £25 delivered

slightly sceptical but willing to take the risk I paid the £25 and this turned up, still boxes and with the genuine Mazda end trims still in sealed bags and a set of removal hooks

ten minutes late and we have tunes once more

20250622_164838.jpg.e798d6388aafa59f75d7ae8a4692a520.jpg

I did then decided to try and see about the transmission error codes , It's OBD1 so bridging the correct pins on the connector should flash the error codes. However in this case it just lit up once for a few seconds then went off without flashing, but I wonder if disconnecting the battery briefly to do the radio swap has cleared the code. Might have to take it for a spin around the block and try again once the error happens again

hmm, not good news on the transmission front.

Got the error light as soon as I pulled away this time, previously it was after longer in the journey and at higher speed.  Did the flash code and it came back with what appears to be the code for line pressure solenoid.  I need to give it a longer run and see if I get any other codes, best case maybe there's a wiring issue somewhere or dirty connection given how long it's been off the road. Transmission seemed to work ok when I collected it despite the sporadic error light Hope I've not bought a dud

EDIT

I think (hope) I misread the blink code

I thought it was 66 as it did 6 then 6 but looking again 66 would be 6 long flash then six short and I get six short , so its 06 error code and then it just repeats.  06 is vehicle speed sensor which sounds much less worrying

Fingers crossed.

I remember these OBD1 games with IIRC my Silvia Turbo.

Cheers.  I'm speaking to one of the Xedos forum experts who reckons it might be another issue as the speedo still works but hopefully its nothing internal to the transmission

Yikes

I hope the sunroof works otherwise I might need a crowbar/industrial tin snips

The guy from practical classics was selling it but not sure if it sold or not

EDIT: Last log book issued 16th June suggests it may have sold
