Good to meet you mate.  I think I'm more nervous than you about the long trip and I'm not doing it.  I shall miss it a lot but it needs someone who can use it and enjoy it now

the trip computer does work by the way its just reset since the new battery went on today, can't remember if it needs a press on the end of the wiper stalk or a pin hole next to the display but one of them shoud bring it back to life

Highly recommended seller @wesacosa. Thanks for being so accommodating with the weird and long collection trip.

Wish I could say this baby was mine but I'm just collecting.

The scientists at Bishop Stortford Services on the M11 have made a groundbreaking discovery in the field of toilet paper. They've made something THINNER than single ply.

Oh! you actually went into London rather then passing through! im so used to people on here going to Euston only because its a connection to elsewhere

next time you or anyone else is collecting or delivering something from/to @wesacosa, give me a shout and ill gladly pop over to provide assistance if needed :) (I have been wanting a good excuse to take REV onto the Woolwich ferry :) )

glad to hear the Citroen XM has been sold and is hopefully going to a continued good home, I know @wesacosa has been wanting to move it for a while now, so hopefully with it finally sold, its a load off the shoulders, and means space for more Autoshite? :)

This should at least be more relaxing than your last jaunt northwards in an elderly Citroën.

You mean Freemason's Hall? As used in Spooks to stand in for MI5 headquarters

Yup - that's the place, we used to have all sort of nicknames for it and the chaps you'd see wandering out of an evening carrying the sawn off briefcases straight over the road into The Pillars of Hercules pub.
Dunno about Spooks - never watched much of it - I do know that it is an impressive building - always thought it's be a great venue for a super fancy wedding type affair.

Halfway there.

Stopped for my 30th piss and 2nd sleep. Got very cold last night. Going well so far and no tired driving which was my main concern.

Guess I should out myself as the buyer of this fine modern classic.

For the avoidance of doubt, Sam was offered hotels, warm sustenance and other conveniences but has chosen to forego any luxuries in the interests of the misery, which he actively enjoys.

@wesacosa top distance seller and @sdkrc top lunatic collectioneer. Would recommend.

Maybe he likes the misery.

Stopped for piss number 41.

Some observations on the very French controls:

Handbrake is foot operated. Weird. But it doesn't operate like any normal foot handbrake like a mercedes/yank/Leaf. It's also in a manual car 🤔

The fuck is this red light? Why isnt it labelled in any way?

signal-2025-03-26-08-36-16-617.jpg.fc041b24bae28f39ac76249a84445c7a.jpg

Why are the key fob buttons on the shoulder?

signal-2025-03-26-08-36-46-893.jpg.b5807c3a210d9113e7f3cf24865e49b8.jpg

Why are the seat controls on the corners?

The buttons on the right operate the passenger window on the left.

Circle means all the way down.

I'll just open the gloveb...

Conclusions: sexy. All the controls are just unfamiliar or different enough that it's confusing and scary.

Once you get used to them, its all the other 'normal' cars that are weird and scary (yes, really)

The red light indicates operation of alarm/immobiliser in various states of (mal)function

And answers to all the other questions...Because Citroen, just better.

on the window buttons, the door card was off for the last two years as I got around to fixing the windows so its not beyond the realms of possibilities I put it in the wrong slot, although as you say being a Citroen it may really live there

Red light is something to do with the alarm , I suspect its only supposed to flash when car is locked and not be illuminated all the time. I think it's probably something to do with opening doors/locking and unlocking with the battery out which I have been doing may just need a reset

Handbrake is crazy,  although I believe the idea is that the reason the pedal  doesn't latch without pushing the handle in is you can use it as an emergency brake in the same way you can a hand operated handbrake by holding in the button pulling it up varying degrees to slow down

Hopefully no issues with the driving so far

The weird controls is just a Citroen thing.  The older they go the weird it gets.

Is this one new enough to not have the 4 digit code you need to type in to start it? I remember those on Xantia's.

it does have the code but you can set it so that it doesn't need it every time, can't remember the criteria but I think if you unlock it with remote then start straight up. or you can have it on every start. There is a book in the pack that tells the options

Set off at 9:50pm on Monday. Made it home just now 12:20pm on Wednesday. Had <4hrs of broken sleep across 2 nights, 1 on a train and the other in service stations.

460 miles on the tripometer.

Really impressed by the XM. Very capable cruiser and very interesting. Very happy with the trip overall. Would do a @davehedgehog31/ @wesacosa collection again, 5 stars

It would be a death sentence for the Panda if I bought it. I'm shit with delicate cars.

I would however gladly drive it up from London to Scotland if @davehedgehog31 was going to do a buy.

I think I'd need to hire a ghostwriter in @Jim Bell if we wanted the collection thread to be entertaining though.

It was good to see this float majestically down the road last night as the person piloting it immediately took the wrong turn and drove us through the middle of a shopping centre.

P.S. My tyre remains inflated, thanks to your leafs 8v battery,.

A follow up:

This collection cost of this was -£80 thanks to £0.45p per mile expenses and the XM running on the mere notion of diesel.

What an absolute raging success.
